  1. I agree. But I would use that service if needed. But I'm also not going to take a marginal shot just because I can call someone with a dog.

    Wow

I'd have to stop hunting. No way to top that.
  3. Mt loin, maybe, but thinking tom cat. Definitely not a Bob cat. They don't have a long tail.
  4. Took this pic on Dec 3rd few yrs back. If you look closely you can see the rows of spots along the spine.
  5. I've butchered 100's of deer over the past 30 yrs. All were in our group of hunters. No commercial butchering. I've let them hang "age" skin on, skin off, young, old buck and doe. I've also processed the same within a day or two as long as they cooled off. I've skinned them the same day and packeged the next. The ONLY factors I've found affected the tenderness and flavor of venison is the age of the deer, but more importantly, how quickly it was dispatched and how soon it was recovered and cooled.
  6. $80? Around my area their getting $120. I enjoy processing my deer. Find it relaxing. I bone everything out, and can have a deer skinned, cut, and packaged in 3 hrs including grinding.

    Broken Antlers

I say leave it the way you found it. True story. Shot nice 8pt few yr ago. He died slamming antler first into a oak tree. The sound of him hitting that tree will never leave me. His broke up antlers were at the base of the tree. Ended up being a 5 pt.
  8. I've dealt with frozen deer more often than I cared to. I hung the deer in my basement overnight to thaw out. Worked fine. If you can't do that, how about a heater in the garage?
  9. Those are some impressive weights. They don't grow em that big around here too often (4U). I've seen pics of 200#ers taken around here. My biggest was a early bow 9Pt that weighted 182.
  10. Picked up a 8mm-06 AI a few yrs ago from a neighbor who passed. Got several boxes of ammo with it. Preformed beautifully at the clubs range. Didn't plan on letting it go, but while at the range, a fellow shooter made me a offer I couldn't refuses. Was fun while it lasted. Lol.. Congrats on the buck.. can safely say I've never seen a 205 lb dressed deer.
  11. Fantastic. JR sure has a ear to ear smile. Future Hunter in the family for sure...
  12. Well, your the only one who knows that area well. I've been known to push the wind limits. Some with outstanding success, some with dismissal results. Lol
  13. I wish you luck. Sounds like you might have hit the knuckle a little which scrubbed enough energy from the arrow to cause the low penetration. If you did hit one lung slightly, it could take awhile to succumb. I once hit a doe with a razorback 5 early in bow season. Shot that same doe late gun. The tell tail 5 star cut through both lower lungs. Entrance and exit we're in front of the diagram. Doe was fat and happy. At least until a 270 hit her...
  14. Well, if it was totally flat area, with no valleys or hills or other terrain variance, it POSSIBLE that deer close to your stand might not smell you. The farther they are the more chance of your sent reaching the ground and there nose.
  15. Yep. I don't do any social media like FB or Twitter. I do belong to a few forums tho. Not criticising those that do post sucessful pics. I like seeing those that are proud of there trophies. Big or small...
  16. I rarely post when I get a deer, I'm definitely not going to post if I lost one..
  17. I agree there's great vitals behind that 1" thick bone. Doesn't mean it was a great shot or a spot you want to aim for. Seen many shoulders stop a 150 gr 270 or a 220 gr '06. All's my saying is don't put the blame squarely on the Rage BH and suggest a different more robust head would have had a different outcome. Biggest thing is be confident in what your shooting, and make a great shot every time. Easier said than done is the catch.
  18. A light switch was turned on here in 4U. Bucks everywhere crusin. Had a doe come by and in 30 min 4 diff bucks were following her trail. All smaller.and too far. Seen a big guy in the field on the way home. Nose to the ground and on a trot. Hopefully I'll get enough done during the day to get out this afternoon.
  19. With that much energy, I doubt another broadhead would have stayed together. I butchered hundreds of deer.. found all types of heads encaced in the shoulder joint, spine, neck. Even shot a buck many yrs ago that had a 30” arrow sticking out the side of his head. It was chasing does in a field.
  20. Every broadhead has a similar story. Muzzy, one of the so called tuffest heads have failed with broken blades and bent shaft. Sorry, but IMO 90% of these ”my broadhead failed” is due to a bad hit. Hit a deer square in the shoulder joint, or another big heavy bone and any head can fail. I've never had a rage head break or bend yet.
  21. Of course this depends on the terrain, but often in thick brush/tall grass area's, I typically find more blood sign on the underside of the limbs, grasses then on the ground. As the deer pushes aside the brush, blood wipes off or sprays on.
  22. Well, I previously posted I'm not a whiskey fan.. tried many over the yrs. Today I had a Apple pie whiskey. Don't remember what brand it was, but dam was it good.. So to all you whiskey fans.. I'm sorry I doubted you...
  23. My, shoulder is not as strong as it used to be. I own a landscape company, and this time of year using the backpack blower 5+ hrs a day has me in pain and unable to draw my 45# compound. This yr I had some help doing leaf cleanup, so as long as I'm able to pull my compound back, the xbow will stay in the case.
