  1. Interesting concept. But I can see how penetration would suffer especially if the shoulder blade is hit. And I can't see how it would add enough impact to drop a deer. I'll pass.
  2. I never understood why someone would say it's a waste of good meat to cook it like that. Heck it's venison. Cook it the way you like. I know a guy that loves venison burger. He grinds everything. Yep, inners, backstraps, everything. Not a waste if that's the way you like it, and it gets eaten.
  3. Well, guess my bday buck has to wait till next yr. Still had a awesome day enjoying the woods. Maybe I can add another day after bday buck. Yep got several of those over the yrs. Lol
  4. Today's my birthday, and for 40 yrs I've done my damnedest to get a bday buck without success. This morning was no different. Didn't see a thing. I'll be out this afternoon for another try. There's always next year. Lol
  5. Best day... Was spring turkey. Called in a beautiful tom for my grand nephew who took the bird with the same shotgun and under the same tree I called in his late dad's first bird long ago. The worst.. probably the same day. Miss my nephew dearly. Was a very emotional day.
  6. I definitely switch from my bow season scent control regiment to a grab the rifle and go mentality.
  7. Can't go wrong with a 870. Fortunately, I've got a 870 for my grand nephews already so it was a easy choice. Really wanted the TC compass with adjustable trigger for $179 in 6.5cm, but they only had it in -06. Hope your nephew enjoys his 870 for many years.
  8. I picked up a Savage Axis with a Weaver scope (ya I know it's a cheapy) for my nephew in 6.5 cm for $200 after the $100 mail in rebate. Can't go wrong for that price.
  9. Lost part of the shoulder and a 5" section of backstrap on this buck. Not too bad, but couldn't imagine the pain that deer was going through. Definitely some tuff critters.
  10. Ya that's nasty. Shot a buck yrs ago with a full 31” arrow sticking out of his neck Broadhead was a bear razor head.
  11. I put some of the blame on the hunting shows. They take risky shots and rationalize the choice to do so by saying I knew I could hit him where I wanted to. Too many variables on a quartering on shot. Should never be taken.
  12. That looks fine. Prepare it the way you like without concern. Personally, don't like it, but saved nearly all my livers for my dad who loved em. Now that dad's gone, I save em for a old-timer who makes liverwurst.
  13. Butchered a decent 6pt for a buddy. Noticed a bulge the size of a softball in front of the shoulder. It was full of puss and coagulated blood. Definitely a frontal shot. You can see the arrow clipped the shoulder blade, and almost exited the opposite side mid rib. Buck had tons of fat which tells me this hit was a few weeks ago and wasn't moving around much chasing does because the other bucks we've butchered had little to no fat.

    ticks

Several deer taken by our group this past week. 4U, 4T, 4K. Every deer loaded with dozens of ticks. Quite bad this yr.
  15. That's fantastic. The old gent is definitely upstairs smiling seeing you carry it afield. Really hope you get to take a deer with it this yr.

    Antlers GONE

Shot many "does" over the yrs during the late MZ. None have ever looked like that. They are fairly clean with no black goop. I'm saying injury caused the early loss.
  17. Thermacell heated insoles. Love mine.
  18. Until the owners "grow a set" I will not support them in any way.
  19. So tuff that they can't get up from a kneeling position when our national anthem is sung? Nope, not tuff at all... quite weak actually.
  20. Who cares.... won't watch it. A what a bunch of whine ass cry babies.
