4 of us are close hunting partners and theres one older couple we all know that always needs the meat so whoever gets the first deer always donates it to them. So since that was done during bow season. From here on out half of what i get and one of the other guy gets will go to them.
  3. With my luck the partner to the officer i spoke to would of shown up and i would of gotten a ticket. Hes good for that. Ive seen him do it before for other stuff. But thanks for letting me know what it is sounds from what everone is saying that its a coon feeder. Feel like an ass now(not the first time though. Lol) but better safe than sorry.
  4. Never thought it could be that. Wouldnt they need to atleast have a tag identifying what they are for? So theres not a mistake in thinking someone is baiting? Find out eventually DEC said they would call me regardless of what they find out.
  5. Thats what i thought to thats why i scratched my head. But all i can think is maybe bear. There is always 1 crusing through those woods. Didnt do a taste test but it looked like dog food to me. I guess deer would eat it also?
  6. Well walking a piece of stateland ive hunted for years and i happen to look down and see what apears to be dog food. Scratched my head and kept walking 20 more yards find some more now im livid kick the pile and keep walking. 40 more yards see a bright green bucket so i go to check it out and sure enough it has a spout on it with dog food coming out of it. That was the last straw now DEC knows and someone is going to have a bad afternoon when they come back because DEC said they will be there around 330-4 to hopefully catch the person red handed. Drives me nuts i left because i didnt want to get caught hunting near a bait sight so my whole day hunt was ruined. I did find a bucket like this one other time on this piece years ago with same thing dog food and 5gallon bucket with a spout.2
  7. Just read the story on the harvest thread. That is great it will be a day they will never forget. Always love hearing youth filling tags. Congrats to you both.
  8. 530? I dont no about the rest of you but its pretty dark at 530 by me. He should be charged, hunting after hours, close enough to hit with a pistol and you still cant tell the difference between a human and a deer. People like this give hunters a bad name. And now a family is heartbroken over an act made by an idiot.
  9. Dark to dark unless i can fill my doe tag before.. Going back to sit in same ground blind as opening day. Sit until 10ish then ill be on my feet till dark walking stateland. Ive filled a doe tag 3 out of the last 4 thanksgivings.
  10. Back strap thats what i was always told was the tenderloin. I would never use the inner loin.
  11. Actually saw this on a show as well and modified it a little bit. But they used an elk tenderloin.
  12. Tried it one day and it came out great now my wife requests it.
  13. Will post final product tomorrow hopefully i have an exact time and temp for the oven.
  14. So this is my favorite recipe for fresh never frozen backstrap hopefully all the pictures show and if someone else posted the same thing my bad. 1)So i will cut my backstrap into 6-8 inch chuncks. 2)Then i put down a piece of aluminum foil down and place about 3-6 pieces of bacon across is. (Make sure have enough so you can fold foil over all the tenderloin) 3)place strap across bacon 4)slice strap length ways but not all the way through 5)sprinkle salt and pepper to your desire across tenderloin 6) slice cherry tomatoes in half. Stuff these and banna peppers into backstrap 7) sprinkle brown sugar over loin wrap everything in up in the bacon 9)wrap everything in the foil 10) slow cook on grill for roughly 2 hours, rotating every half hour. make sure you check that meat is done i dont have an exact amout of time and temperature. I will be trying this recipe out in the oven tomorrow for the first time. At 300 for a couple hours.
  15. Do them every now and then towards the end of the season. But certain rules. Orange from waste up, no high powered rifles, have to make noise so you can here the drivers coming, and anyone in the group must be approved by the 4 of us that have always hunted together. But the older i get the more i start to hate them. I kill more sitting but its also a tradition so its hard to stop. But ive drifted more towards still hunting with a couple guys.
  16. I was going to say the same thing. Ask to help cutwood, put fence up, simply posting their property. They may ask for a lot or a little work just remember they had to work hard to own those properties your asking to get on, but you may end up with a place to hunt for life and meet some long lasting friends.
  17. Couldnt agree more. Whatever the reason you choose to shoot a deer as long as you are happy with it thats the most important thing. Theres 15 of us that are on a mass text every year and all said congrats except 1 person who busted my balls on my deer this year. He was lets say put in his place real quick by everyone(only killed one deer in 15years hunting and was a decent 8 last year now he thinks hes the best hunter ever). And all i told him i couldnt be happier with my little buck my freezer is filled up again and his is empty.
  18. Son woke up at 3 gave him a bottle and we both just woke up to the wind blowing. So not upset i over slept be back out on thursday. Look out for those widow makers in the wind.
  19. Well connected on a little busted up 5 and im going to brave the wind tomorrow and try to catch a big doe looking for cover. Then off to put in flooring. Good luck to those going out tomorrow and be safe in that wind and congrats to all that have a deer hanging tonight.
  20. So went to a piece of stateland ive only pushed on but decided i was going to sit it at least once this year. So during the summer i found a blowdown and decided that would be my spot. So my goal this year was another nice buck, but sitting there waiting for it to get light i realized. Im not a trophy hunter i'm a meat hunter. And between 3 kids now and my disabled father wants to get out this year i figured filling my tag to spend time with the kids and help my dad took priority. So at 7:30 i hear one walking in and at 25 yards he popped out of the thicket past a tree and took him through the heart. He maybe went 45 yards. Decent body i would guess 120ish. Ended up being a broken up little wanna be 5.
  21. Good luck, shoot straight and remember your harness.
