Any extra points for public land deer? Bears thrown into this?
-
I'll try my best but you forgot 2 we need grampy and hock3y24.
-
Won't disagree. I'm glad more people are getting out. It does change my original plans on placing stands. I personally don't care if someone gets to an area I hunt before me. I've hunted stateland for so long I'm used to seeing people every now and again.

Posting Property - Private vs State Land
Swamp_bucks replied to GreeneHunter's topic in General Chit Chat
I've always been told they don't need to be posted but was told by a game warden it's very difficult to charge them. -
I mark all mine with name back tag number so if it happens I would explain it's mine show them the information. Since I started locking everything I would probably let them finish their sit and go grab it after dark. All depends on the attitude the other person has. I have never had this happen but it could I've had stands stolen. That's why I'll pull the sticks chances of someone even seeing a stand with sticks is low add not having sticks it will be pretty hard to spot.

Do you think with all that's going on will there be an increase in hunters? I know some people down to work have decided to either start all together and 2 picked up bow hunting. There's even been people on here that have mentioned taking an extra deer or two. I think it's great getting hunters number back up but has led me to make a different game plan. So ill place stands as planned and locked but not leaving any sticks. I have climbing portable sticks so ill just pack them in and out. What have you heard? What's your opinion on it? Will it change the way you hunt?

I left my top stick in place all last year never had an issue so I don't think it would make much of a difference if It had the tension on it or not.
-
I think a new hunter it could lead to them getting lost depending on the size of the land the person decides to hunt. Still hunting is very safe if you wear hunter orange and take your time and know how to walk woods and use a compass. Like grampy said though it takes a lot of practice and patience to know how to do it correctly. But the only way to learn the right way or a better way is to screw up. I'm all for any individual choosing his/her own style of hunting.

Switching to Fixed Blade with new string
Swamp_bucks replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Bow Hunting
I've shot fixed blade then went to mechanical now am going back. I've killed deer with both my biggest thing is shooting slower bows with mechanicals I never got the pass through or pentration I wanted on quarting away shots. Plus they always seemed bent or damaged. I like that these magnus(first year with them) is I can resharpen them and all the reviews say they are great on quartering away shots. Only time will tell. Biggest thing is be confident with what your shooting. -
Can't wait I'm ready to go. Just told my wife 49days. She said that if I start counting down I won't get past day 48. I have a lot of new spots picked out plus all my old reliable spots. Some close to the road, plus that bear got me really going.

I finally have my time for deer season figured out I actually had a lot of time to schedule for once. The one positive note about working 3rd when I get out at 6 and take a 3 hour nap it's like having a free day off without burning time. 10/29-11/1. 11/4-11/9, 11/12- 11/15, 11/19-11/22,11/25-11/29 I might still have a day or 2 left I have to double check I'll probably use them during late season. I don't worry about taking time off at the beginning of the season because I have more time during the weekends to get out. Most of these days will be all day hunts I'm hoping.

That is true there is a lot of big chunks of private. I do the same thing with my anterless bow tag. Usually i get a 7p at least every other year.
-
I bought this as well a couple months ago ran blades with 800-1200 grit then used my leather belt to finish it. Sliced right through the paper i tested it on. They are razor sharp now.

Congrats on retirement this spring and enjoy that 200 acres of paradise you picked up.
-
I might just have to take you up on that if I don't get any transferred to me before then.
-
I don't get it either. 7m has good chances also and two picks. There's a lot of deer in 7p. I never under stood why they made the area it split every town in the valley in half.
-
I'll go this weekend or next. Hoping to get 7p and 7m this year. Most of my spots are 7p and they are a low chance.

Switching to Fixed Blade with new string
Swamp_bucks replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Bow Hunting
I'm switching to the Magnus ser-razors this year. Hope to see how they work. -
Still finding my grip on the new bow. Pictures are 30,40,30. Second 30 is with a different grip. 40 needs work still but plenty of time.

Climbers
Swamp_bucks replied to Northcountryman's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I liked my summit it was very comfy but you need a straight tree so I switched to hang on and sticks. -
https://youtu.be/wqKn_3iJOP4 anybody see this explosion I believe it was in Lebanons capital.

If I had a choice I prefer early for maybe an odd reason. I don't worry if that one doe gets taken early because chances are it's probably not brining a buck past me. But if I take one late season it's probably bred and now I've taken that doe and whatever fawn it may have in the spring. That being said if I don't have a deer taken by late season I would take a doe. Where deer numbers are huge and I don't think it really matters.
