Robs huntandfish journal
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Member Hunting Journals
Corey and I got out fishing for a bit this morn. Just a quick trip as wanted to be off the lake as the annual "Chicken Wing Run" is today. Got checked by DEC out there today. First time i have ever been checked on Oneida my whole life. They just checked licenses and lifejackets. Prob out there killing time til the chicken wing run. I told them good luck with that and the guy says" yeah thanks they are drinking already over there.". This was at 8:30am. But got out to BS for a bit. Enjoy some time on the water before season is over. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk -

Took some interesting lunch shots. First 2 shots got a damn Robin Hood. The arrows I shoot the company is out of business. So that's not great. But form is def good. Then after those two shots this little fella pops out into the trail just past my target. Great looking Fisher. Squeaked at him a couple of times and he kept looking long enough to get a picture or two. He came out about 8 yards from my target. Zoom in on the last pic . Form is def good but noticed my site is out of whack. It's off the marker left for sure. Must've loosened up or I didn't tighten it well last time I adjusted. I would never be able to enjoy it. Im sure you must understand that on some level. Thus the reason you hunt public in Letchworth as opposed to shooting one in a high fence yourself I would think. hell i wouldnt even enjoy a hunt where they showed me where the deer showed up on camera. I like to figure it out on my own. if i go to a friends house to hunt i usually tell them i would take a doe for the freezer if the oppurtunity comes up as its more about being out there and spending time wiht friends, but i want to try to get a buck off my own spot where ive done all the work and set the chess board. It means more to me. Deer in a fence doenst appeal to me at all. But to each their own.

doesnt matter cause i would never do it. Just couldnt get it out of my head that the deer cant get out is still an unfair advantage. Just a matter of preference. Like i said i wouldnt even be able to enjoy a guided hunt. Drop me off somewhere in open country and i do it all on my own or with a buddy. I like being able to figure out the puzzle and have the total experience. when i go to the outdoor shows i wont even sign up for the free hunts. cause i know me and i wouldnt enjoy it. So no point in going on a fenced hunt cause i wouldnt like it and if i did get one i wouldnt feel proud of it or like i earned it. Then if i didnt get one i would question if the animal is even there since well.....its fenced in. lol No win situation for me.
-
i wont even do a guided hunt much less a high fence cause i would feel like its cheating. Just isnt my idea of hunting. I booked a guided pig hunt once in SC and cancelled it cause i just knew i wouldnt like it. But i have enjoyed some hunts in the Dacks where i was lucky to see a deer. Guess its all about perspective.

Official 2022 Fall Plots Thread
Robhuntandfish replied to Five Seasons's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
last year this plot was chewed to the ground by early October. We put in two more close by this year so hopefully there is something left for season. -
@kathyhochul i blocked her but you should have tagged her to get this done

lol. i said "in a way...." Good way of putting it - if deer didnt have horns would def still hunt. And i havent seen horns yet on bear, grouse, turkeys, pheasants, rabbits, ducks or walleye, yet for some reason these are still hunted.....
-
As ive stated before you both are actually wrong in a way. Most people hunt neither for the horns or the meat. We hunt cause we enjoy the outdoors, because its what our fathers did and taught us to do, cause we feel relaxation and peace out in the woods, its what we do because we are drawn to it. If it was first for meat or horns - i can get both of those easier than i can hunt for them. I choose to hunt because its what i enjoy. That being said if i could only bring out horns from the woods i would not be out there. Bringing the meat home is far more enjoyable than the horns. The obvious is of course we hunt for larger bucks as thats the more difficult and challenging goal, but it is not the reason i hunt. If it was i would be wasting my time as I dont have a lot of those anywhere near where i hunt. I even have better buck spots i could hunt but dont cause i like my little piece of land and the challenge and meat it provides. FSW you think everyone is in it for the horns as thats what you se everday and provide, but that is a very small niche group that comes for that, same crowd of high fence type hunters who like to brag more than they like to hunt. Most hunters cannot be classified as that. Most are just people that enjoy the act of hunting and are happy to be able to.
