i have a bunch of treestand views on my screensaver, helps me get thru the day!

i would say its more of a learned behavior. Do dogs remember, do cats remember, pet birds, trained bears, - of course they do. If you bust a deer out of the same spot repeatedly or they smell you repeatedly are they learning that the area isnt good for them ? Of course. Do they remember that old guy walking down the road is the same one that comes up here and shoots my friends - probably not - but they might remember that humans are a threat. Deer are like any animals with conditioning they learn. Just like if people are feeding deer in an area they remember to go back there.

Same as grampy. I pulled cards from my spot in 6S this weekend and nothing but does on a 3 week soak. Yet this spot is where I have seen and taken my best bucks. Same last season had no buck pics til Oct. -

Sounds like a good spot to me. Deer patterns will def change once the rut hits but if there is a trail that is used a lot, bucks will run it and smell for does. If it's near a thick area and deer are bedding there just need to sneak in quiet and play the wind. If does run it all season the bucks will be there too. And if it doesn't get pressure except from you that's a bonus. Deer will stay where they think it is safe and access to food. -
A couple of them I used to shoot had these and it was kinda funny when your going around the course you would hear someone gong the metal and everyone says "that's a broken arrow".

Live from the rifle range

A little time at the range with @FISHDO, sighting in the rifles. -
Next year we should do a forum Hunter fantasy league. Draft hunters that are forum members. Each person gets to pick 10 and has to play each of them for one week of the season.

How long before season opener to set up

Got tree stands setup in 7F this weekend. Waiting on go for the whitetail opener.

Looks like a fun day. 3D courses give you some great confidence before season. Have seen some neat ones that have uphill and downhill shots, from stands, from blinds etc. Then at the end there is usually a challenge shot. Like a 80 yard shot or a 25 yard bulleye with metal plate all around it so that if you hit anything but the 10 ring it's a busted arrow. But always good prep before season.

We did last three stands on the lease in 7F today. Ready to go ! All 9 are done in 7F , 3 in 6S and one in 7J. Pulled cards in 6S and not much going on there, but that is usual til season starts. One cam I couldn't get to cause neighbor was blocking the trail with his truck working on his fence. C'mon season. Tomorrow Corey and I are going to range to be sure guns are sighted in. Then prep is about done except for some bow practice. -
A family friend was at a diner where we were camping up by the St Lawrence in Morristown and someone came over and asked if we were interested in some kittens. He asked if they thought they could swim and would splash a lot in the water. They asked why and he said muskies like ones that splash a lot otherwise he has to make little lifevests for them . They looked with horror....lol. Oh and he didn't get a kitten...

Is it Possible to Overscout an Area?
Robhuntandfish replied to Northcountryman's topic in Deer Hunting
This is my same. Want it all done by labor weekend and I don't step foot in there again. But it's a property where people aren't out there all the time . So if all of a sudden there is people wandering around the deer are gonna move across the property line where no one is bothering them. Even during season I try not to burn out one stand by using it all the time. Esp for the local deer , a wandering buck in the rut might not care or have been around to be spooked but I didn't want to keep busting out the deer I am hunting. My buddy in the past hasnt been able to keep away from checking those cams at his place and he keeps getting busted and they next to his stands. He's been better about it this year and hope he scores. He has some nice bucks and a good setup there beside our lease. I think the less impact on your hunting area the better esp if it isn't common for people to be there. -
Happy Birthday!!

I do. I am usually hunting with another person. Plus during gun you just never know who is walking around. We haven't had any trespassing problems but we do hunt along property lines esp when going in and out of the woods.
-
I do not. But I also hunt private land. If I was hunting public during the youth weekend I def would, or if bow hunting during gun or muzzleloader season.

Smoked a venison roast. Sandwiches on toasted Ciabata roll, Swiss and horseradish. Awesome.

Looks pretty good. I always try to use whatever is around for extra cover to tuck into. High grass, an old brush pile etc. That color of blind looks like it fits in well with that spot. And I like to open the back and wear camo inside it so there isn't any solid black. But some guys dress in black and sit inside. I just put a new one up today too. I don't really like hunting out of a blind but sometimes the terrain leaves you no choice. And they are nice on a windy cold day too.

This will be sliced up and on Ciabata rolls with melted Swiss and horseradish.

Did some work on the 7F lease today. I put up a new ground blind and Corey did the work clearing shooting lanes for the treestands. Due to a medical issue with my leg I have to take it a bit easy. So he is taking on the brunt of the prep this year. But ground blind turned out well and excited to get out in a few weeks. It's right next to a pond so hell I could hunt and fish at the same time. Lol Hard to tell from these pics but this blind is tall enough that I can stand up easily to shoot inside. Pulled cam cards and will post when I get to computer. But checked them on hand held and have lots of doe pics, a bachelor group of three small bucks and a couple of nice 8 points. Looking good! Gonna pull cams from my 6S spot tomorrow. Getting excited for season.
