How would you rate yourself as a turkey caller ?
Robhuntandfish replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Turkey Hunting
I struggle with pulling them away from hens for sure. Two years ago I had two hens come out on a trot right at me though, like they were pissed and the gobbler was right in tow. I am positive I overcall often. I did one time get a gobbler by calling as loud as I could. Could hear him seems like 1/2 mile away and he just kept coming. But am sure that isn't the norm. Called two in last year but both out of position and I got busted. And seems like they come in when I am quiet and assume they are looking for that hen. When they are roosted close -when and how often do you call? My prob always seems to be they are gobbling close on a roost and then come down and go off with the hens. They gobble at me early but dont come over, then leave and are hundreds of yards away in other fields. And it's on private land. I have tried to piss off the hens too and have them come out but only had that work the once. My idea this year is to stay right til noon and try to bring them back to me late morning after chasing hens they are with. -
Remington 7600 35 Whelen Carbine

I just traded in three guns for cash and an 06 just in case I ever get drawn for a moose permit. I looked hard at these 7600s a couple of times. If I didn't already get the 06 this would probably be mine. Like carrying a shorter gun and I am a synthetic stock fan. Lighter and I don't worry about it in the woods getting scratched up. Nice rig. Someone please buy it cause it's bugging me. Lol. -
I get the flea control pills which are like $120 for a years supply and a seresto collar cause the ticks are so bad here. Then the heart guard for a year which was another $90. Then he had all his shots for Lyme, lepto, rabies etc... And a yearly exam. Sure gets expensive quick. But unless something happens won't have to go back til next year.

Depends on the audience - I am a master at calling in coyotes with a turkey box call! Actual turkeys.......somewhere between piss and poor! lol -

18 perch is a def good day Otto! Nice catch. Some of those Oneida perch are like the size of walleyes! No I didn't go out. Not much of an ice fisherman. I've been a few times but haven't gotten into it or have a wheeler or sled to get out there. It sure looked like a little city out there. I used to go once in a while and just reopen holes others drilled and jig and move around. It's def gonna get slushy quick after today's warm and rain. Good luck

Oneida was packed yesterday. Most fisherman I have seen all season. Looked like tent city.

The GF works weekend nights so she got a "free" hour this weekend. One step closer to spring. -
Pepperoni, spinach and cheddar omelette, with venison sausage. Love weekend breakfast.

Robs huntandfish journal

It's a Bushnell banner with the circle X reticle. Addicted to these reticles cause they are so fast to get on the vitals. Put the circle in the kill zone and touch it off. It's a fixed 4 power. Had a 2.5 on it but wwnt to a little more power and that reticle. This Winchester is my first deer rifle that my Dad helped me with half when I was 17. It's also the first year of angle eject so can mount a scope. And my eyes need one these days. -

Got out to lock in the 30/30 with the new scope I put in it. Will get out to shoot before season of course but it's zoned in at 100. I set it an inch higher at 100 after this group, so it should be good. -
Beauty of a fishing day Chris! Nice catch and a nice way to spend a day in some sunshine.

yeah it cracks me up that people think they can say whatever they want and have no repercussions or reaction and claim it to be free speech. Free speech --- see above - as Moog clearly stated. Sure say whatever you want but realize everyone else can too that hears it. And they also have the right to react - ie - fire you, ban you, ignore you, dislike you etc etc - they just cant prosecute you.

that movie had the potential to be so much better than it was - i was disappointed. Great cast and started off with a good story line then fell apart (i thought) - I really looked forward to seeing that when it came out

done with it! Gotta get the boat back in the driveway where it belongs! Winter gets tougher to deal with every year it seems.

wasnt planning on going. But would be cool to meet ya for sure. I am supposed to go to a buddies annual "Grill and Chill" event at his house. He does a spring get together every year - pass a dish- bonfire - etc . I wish he would do it in April cause its usually miserable out still and freezing still and snow etc......Never been to one of these but everyone says they are great .

guy i took my buck to has been doing taxidermy for 40 years. He no longer does fish and only takes about 10-12 deer now as he is semi retired and goes south for a couple of months. He said i would be getting buck back in June. I have had several fish done there and he was a great painter - those took about 10-12 months usually. This is my first buck to be mounted but hes been doing them forever so feel pretty confident the mount will be a good one.
