  1. been considering trying to plan a bear hunt this year in NY. I have always wanted to get one NY bear in my life and there is zero where i hunt now. I have looked at some cabins in the Lewis co area in some areas where there is a decent bear take. But i am willing to go about anywhere in the state - southern or northern tier. I would like to get at least a two day hunt with a place to rent (cabin or hotel etc) and am looking within that early bear season or for the early muzzle loader season in the north. Dont want to go later than that cause honestly i would rather bow hunt southern for deer and dont want to take time away from that esp from late Oct on. Any tips , suggestions etc. I know a bit of the lewis county area and been eyeing that mostly so far and if I book a cabin somewhere will also do some summer scouting. Plus my buddy that is going isnt really into a bear hunt but this would give him muzzleloader deer to hunt. I have hunted and camped in the dacks in early bear season and did some fishing. Last time i went 2 years ago it was a record 90 degrees that weekend - yeah we didnt see a bear. lol but any suggestions are welcome.
  2. Always wanted to rent a squatch costume and go in front of my buddies trail cam and scratch my ass and do silly stuff. lol
  3. Im thinking Biz is funding that sheep trip! NY hunters forum WILL pay for that trip! nice painting for sure.
  4. Yup, I have a 2012 and I have had great luck with it. 111,000 and no issues other than brakes and tires etc. I had one before that as well. Tows the boat fine and it's been very dependable. Plan on keeping it 2-3 more years then getting another. I have the extended cab and not the double cab cause I wanted a 6 ft box. Does everything I need it to. Gets 18 mpg. 6 is good power, drives and handles nice. I do put 2 sandbags in, one over each wheel in the winter. I def recommend one. I had a Toyota in between my two for a couple of years and traded it in for the Nissan. Been a good truck.
  5. The cold def keeps me from more small game hunting. Get up in the morn - temp is 10 degrees .... go out and shoot a squirrel.....eh Coffee is on, house is warm, maybe tomorrow..... eh
  6. net? i gotta read their website some more - it was so slow though.
  7. we are a lot alike in not liking the city and being anxious about it. But sounds like your handling it well. Last bigger city i went to was baltimore for a yankee game and to see the national aquarium there. The game was def fun - was joking with some baltimore and fellow yankee fans nearby and happened to sit with a good group of folks. Also went to a restaurant with some local beers on tap and that was real good. The aquarium I wasnt too impressed with except for the brook trout pond! lol but by the time we got there and driving thru the city i wouldnt ever go again cause the stress was worse than the fun we did have. Just not very comfortable there and basically wanted to drive in any direction til i hit a cornfield! Hell i refuse to go to Syracuse more than once a year! But for an upstate NYer sounds like you are handling this very well and am glad it hasnt been as stressful as you thought. Could def tell you were worried about it. BUt as they say life is all about experiences and you also might be helping a bunch of folks along the way
  8. til reading this thread didnt even know a pope and young was 125 etc. So went to their website - so its a club to register your deer and pay them money to join?? Not something i would be interested in but to each their own and interesting that there is so much talk about it, kinda cool esp if you dont normally get a big buck to say it was a benchmark one. Its funny the first three comments on the page were all about how disfunctional it is. lol - guess they are the same as everyone else in the world. Everyone asks me the score of my deer this year- its amazing how many people ask about it. I didnt have it scored - i know a guy that does it for Pope and young or is certified or whatever, have shot 3D with him a couple of times and he has offered, so maybe one time i will do that just so i can answer when people ask. I did ask on here and most said between 120-130. So i might have a pope and young too? lol I saw one this year that was a monster - maybe next season a Crocket and Tubbs! 9. Killin it last couple of nights Chef! Top chef meals!
  10. Like those spurs on the tines. Neat buck
  11. Nice job. It's not easy to speak in front of people if your not used to it. But remember you ARE the expert that uses it everyday. And it seems like they really want you opinion and ideas. Way to go. Now enjoy that pool and a cold one!
  12. How bout a rabbit head peaking out of the stump. Looking like he hid in there just in time.
  13. i had that problem for a while too and i downloaded a reduce photo app to my phone and that worked
  14. yeah thats a pretty neat one too. I live and work right in the area they used to be as well. Some of the family still lives in the area - but they are much calmer for sure - lol One of them sells insurance .
  15. it kinda weirds you out when they talk about places you have been to and this guy was out loose in even though it was a long time ago.
  16. dunno if your into the sort of thing but - "Terror in the adirondacks" was an interesting read. Serial killer in the dacks - true story . Not really local but a good read is the auto bio on Ted Williams. Also - books on the loomis gang - think it was called 9 mile swamp.
  17. last i knew it fell under parks and rec and will not give you points on your license. Just a fine. Trails are a 55 mph max in the state unless posted otherwise - many state areas like the canal path area are 25 mph. Police are out there for the same reason as on the road, to get people to slow down. Look at how many fatalities there are every year as opposed to hunting, which is supposed to be so dangerous. Its always the 1% that the laws are for and need enforcing. Sounds like you just happened to be in the wrong place wrong time. But speeding and snowmobiles has been the reason for so many fatals the last couple of years for sure. And so much alcohol use as well. I just called a friend at DMV and they said no it doesnt go on license.
  18. ohhhhhh yeah that be sexy! nice rig!
  19. https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/parvo-in-dogs/ american Kennel club says also can be indirect contact. Might still be from feces but if feces touched anything else the virus could still be there. but thats also just parvo. There are others like mange etc . I just dont want to take the chance even if it is small. - no nasty yotes make it to the house and truck gets cleaned out if i give them to others.
  20. from what i have read some of these can be transmitted thru direct contact but also from feces or even clothing. So if you had the coyote against your jacket and got blood on it and your dog was exposed they could be infected.
  21. yeah thats why i never took the chance to bring one home. I give my dog the shots for parvo but wouldnt want to risk it. http://scientificwildlifemanagement.com/diseases-coyotes-can-carry-3/
  22. does anyone worry about bringing home any disease to their dogs? I never wanted to bring one to the house just in case of mange or parvo etc.....
  23. i found a guy that would take them if I shot one cause i really dont want to tan one etc.
  24. mine is a lot shorter than 10ft unfortunately
