  1. I was never closer to anyone than my dad. I spend every April 1 for opening day of trout season, reflecting like this as well. Thanks for posting. And you will have tough days for sure and a lot of good memory days too. Tears in the woods today but it is where you belong and he would've and is right with you.
  2. Sooooo....I have a load in the loader that I have to shoot off. Have to drive to lease to shoot it , so might as well take a walk this morning. Never know. Thinking i am gonna take yesterday s deer to processor. I always do my own, but most of this one will be giving away and really ok with skipping this for once. Haven't decided yet but leaning that way . Haven't taken one to a processor in a long time but hearing good things about a couple local ones.
  3. I remember seeing some big deer thru the years and most of the biggest haven't been while I was hunting. Usually while driving somewhere. Tonite I sure wish I could've gotten a shot at the monster I saw. It was def more than a 10 point without question and I am thinking mainframe 12. With high tines all along to boot. Very happy to have gotten another deer but if I sealed the deal on that one wow. Looked like something from Kansas. Just stunning to see one like that while hunting and within shooting range. Biggest deer I have ever seen anywhere. Gonna have to hope for next year cause I don't dare take a 4th deer from this spot. Lol. Thanks all for the congrats, been a great season. Good story to boot tonite. - muzzleloader harvest thread.
  4. Snuck into stand as quiet as I could along the corn. Saw a fresh set of tracks right by the stand that looked like this morning. Sat there about 25 minutes and at 80 yards is a deer. Where the hell did it come from? Did it fall out of the sky.....I can see all around no way I would have missed it coming in. But looks like a good sized doe and never taken a deer with the muzzleloader so let's SEND IT! She is looking right at me trotting away a little . I see a hole in the trees and she walked right into it and stopped before I could even "meh". Touch off the shot and down she goes. So I am gonna give her a few minutes and then get down from stand. Then she gets up....so I am scrambling to reload and get down. Walk over and she is down , then starts to get up so I shoot and finish her. Reload again just in case. But she is done. Walk over and wait.....it's a buck! Lost its horns already and looks like it was today.. damn . So it's early I decide I am going to track it a ways and see if I can find horns and where the hell it came from. So I start tracking and come to a bed . This buck was bedded within 80 yards the whole time I was there and must've finally got nervous enough to stand up. It was on the other side of a big tree and I never saw it. And it looks like it's been there a while and no horns. Then I hear brush and look up and here is the biggest buck I have ever seen in the woods high tailing it at 70 yards. I pull up the gun....it's a monster. Without exaggeration looks like a mainframe 12, high tines everywhere . It's running along the trees line to another field. Too much brush and no open shot unless it goes to my right, instead it runs down the hill where I can't go after it. No kidding a damn monster. So I walk over there and there was another bed. That buck sat there thru 2 gunshots and me walking around before it bolted. I was looking for dropped horns, wish I had looked up a little sooner. Guess it's something to look forward to next year! Great afternoon first muzzleloader deer. Wish it had kept it's horns. Prob not a monster but def could've been a decent one. Sat in this stand 3 times this year and dragged 3 times.
  5. In the corn! One lone set of pretty big tracks on way in and 14 inches from my stand. Lol Last night's or this morning's. Hope he comes back.
  6. Saw nothing in a short am sit. Have a vet appt and a quick appt for me then back in the woods. Sitting in a stand I only sat in twice all year cause it was a late setup and dragged a deer out both times. Hoping that the third time is also a charm. Hopefully if I do I won't get kicked out lol. Owner and his son gun hunt there and didn't get a thing this season. If I shoot a third I might be on the naughty list. ......but I can't help my self! And I am taking them venison today.
  7. Not light out til after 7 still up by 5am. So breakfast. Eggs over grits and venison jalapeno sausage.
  8. My diagnosis is he tripped over a piece of kryptonite and got weak for a quick minute. And def glad you are back to yourself!
  9. Checking in Jay! I'm headed out to make white snow red! A real short am sit then pm my best spot this year!
  10. A pic of stoney pond in the summer.GF camps there every year. Good luck! Lots of deer in Madison county.
  11. Meatball sub. With mozz and provolone. And ever have something you haven't had in years and it wasn't as good as you remember......Pringles .
  12. bear burger helper! love it looks great! always wanted to get a bear to make some cool meals with it.
  13. ive hiked and fished stoney pond a few times. Theres a lot of trails around up there as it gets a lot of horse riders as well. Jones rd has some parking spots to hunt. There are some wierd almost random spots that pop up that are posted as it is such a weird boundry line.
  14. but chances are you had a drink which adds weight to the meat which is worthless. And i am guessing you were drinking cause otherwise this whole thread makes no sense.
  15. I have a lease just outside of stota but two guys are already hunting it this week or I'd say lets go! (course havent seen a deer there since opening day). I am headed to a spot i have permission to bow hunt in another spot this week as well But if you bow hunt - verona beach state park is open for Bow only. Have to stop and get a permit (which is just a form you fill out and leave in your vehicle - they dont even take a copy) and they also give you a map. There is a ton of land across the road from the park. And i have seen pics of a 10 point taken out of there this year. There is some pheasant hunters out there , but off of Popalton road to the right headed from across the park they dont go into. And also off of Sterling road. When they give you a map - check out the red trail - My hunting buddies wife works there and she said when they run that trail with daily checks they see lots of deer. But it is bow only
  16. i am willing to cover the last $96 that would get you over the top - keep me posted
  17. ive got Wed and Thurs off! Wed have a couple of appts but will sneak out for some time at least. Hoping to take my first deer with the muzzleloader!
  18. My muzzleloader is consistant in a weird way. Every year i take it out before season and shoot it. One shot dead in the bull at 100 every damn year!!!! then the 2nd shot is always 4" low then it stays low/lower it seems. I dont really worry about a group cause dont figure im getting three shots off at any time with it. I clean it and its back to dead center. One day (this year!!) i hope to get to use it on a deer! My grouping on a completely cleaned gun would be touching. I figure your getting one shot and then a possible finish shot at best.
  19. whew! yeah that would leave ya shaking a bit. Glad all was ok two years ago out turkey hunting a monster tree went down about 80 yards from me. Could feel the ground shake it was huge scared the crap outa me and i wasnt that close. But thought what if i was sitting over there......
  20. im taking out $10 for having to read all the posts about the PA chart ! lol Maybe you should also take up a fund for a dehydrator since the water in the meat is now deemed useless.
  21. Back strap, mushrooms and asparagus with a little parm on it.
