  1. So now I'm thinking do u guys have a slicer ? Venison pastrami would seem to be better sliced
  2. They always offer for you to sit in the wicker chair too.......lol nope.
  3. cool pic! always amazed how animals survive. Like how does a little chickadee make it thru -25 ?
  4. damn I wanted to invent that and do clinical trials. Thanks for ruining my weekend Moog
  5. Do they make boob guards? I know it hurts when you hit your arm .....
  6. Fat guys are afraid of climbers and wicker! Just the way it is! lol
  7. and smallmouth on a mini popper is hard to beat too!
  8. i am a chicken of climbers lol. But also the land i hunt is weird. The lease we have has hardly any trees. Its old grown over farm land and a tangled mess. Deer def hide in there but trees for stands are hard to come by. And the other property i hunt a lot is mostly ag fields with a small ring of trees around them. I have buddies thought that swear by the climbers - its like they never hunt the same stand twice as long as they can pickout a suitable tree.
  9. if it gets too bad just walk til you see a cornfield. That was always my plan.
  10. great ! you all upped it another notch! now I gotta corn one and smoke it too! lol Def gonna do this. I have a bunch of sausage sealed and put away for a smoker day gonna have to make a corned roast or two as well. Thats it , now i gotta fill another tag! ugh you guys......
  11. her claws arent that sharp anymore
  12. With that golf swing not thinking your dating her. Not that theres anything wrong with that.
  13. I think of it as just something fun to do. Like we used to do at camp. Me and my buddies always go on a fishing trip and we used to throw in a glass $10 each for best fish of the trip. And sometimes it wasn't always the biggest.
  14. Get better Dan and no more episodes like that one. Hope all is OK.
  15. I could never be the best hunter, I would think someone would have to be focused on just that alone. I enjoy way too many things too, esp fishing .
  16. small cricks , learn a roll cast. I saw too many movies and tv shows and thought i should be doing those pretty "and a river runs thru it " casts. And trees ate a lot of my best flies! lol
  17. we dont even have bears around here yet. Lol Hold off on the elks! They just reopened bear season in Madison county last year, i havent seen any but there is a season.
  18. those are just cool! they come down in price i am in. But would get even less work done! lol
  19. the best part of the pics for me isnt those huge, small or no antlers. Its how happy that person is and we get to share in it and the story. I check all the time to see how people did out hunting and am happy for each one of them. Some of the best pics this year were from Culver and those new hunters that got deer. Ive posted does and bucks- not to brag at all but to share with the folks on this site that we have chatted together all year with to see. And to share the story and my excitement! I'd almost feel guilty not posting them. lol I think the NY big buck board is a bit different - maybe some bragging rights there - which is fine too. But really i am just as happy for the new person that got their first doe, or a grandkid that got a deer or the guy that has hunted for 40 years and been giving me and other advice here that got a nice buck. No jealousy. But also glad you hunt for your enjoyment and if not posting any pics does that then very good for you too. Its about enjoying the sport the way you want to. Some want meat, some want antlers, some want adventure, some just want to get away, ... im kinda in for all of it and the stories that go with it.
  20. I hate ground blinds!!! lol We did the same when we first got lease , we bought 3 ground blinds and havent used them since. I would sit there and hear the deer go behind them and never see them. I do like brushed in homeade ones like Grampy mentioned - cause you can see and still hear and still turn and have a spot to shoot. esp for gun and crossbow. But they were always too noisy and obvious and constricting to me. And i am not the smallest of guys so im not too graceful in them either.
  21. i usually change the straps every year regardless for the same reason. Seen them dry rot and get chewed by squirrels too often. And i always have 3 on every tree. 2 at the top (top rail and foot rail)and one on the stabilizer bar (which i may not replace every year) figure for $100 in straps a year its worth it. sounds like a good time to get everyone together to help out too. We try to do this for a couple of us for improvements every year to the areas we hunt. And a buddy and i go to each others spots and help out with stands and scouting etc. We also do the no entry as of sept 1. Put cams out that day and no one in til season! sounds like you have a great system - need to with all those stands for sure.
  22. if you have ag nearby thats prob where they are spending a lot of time. Does and food with colder temps. There was prob more searching by bucks in mid november . They prob arent too far but are where they feel safe and where food is avail
  23. i def use both. On those days the ground is wet i am cert more visual, but cant tell you how many times i have heard the deer coming before i have seen it. And have gotten so most of the time i dont even look at squirrel noise anymore. Deer walking just have that certain cadence that you just know. I often set up where i can see well and shooting lanes etc , but also set to where my back is a really brushy area and will hear them from that direction. There have been many times that i have heard them sneaking thru the woods and just had gun/bow up ready to go for when they stepped out. But it does still amaze me at times when you turn your head and there they are and i didnt hear or see them.
