  1. any good suggestions on hiding trail cams better or better ideas to keep them unseen? I seem to have a lot of deer look right at them and have pics of them spooking due to cams. I am really considering not using them next year in my hunting areas. I really like to see what bucks are in the area but its not really a necessity at this point as i am not planning on moving stands due to any trail cam pics i have gotten. I only go to check them about every 3-4 weeks as i dont want to be in there much. But i def see where they look at the camera often and then see a pic of them obviously spooked by it. So...... should i bag using them? maybe only place them in spots to get picks from above? Its tough to conceal them with branches too much as anything in front of it triggers a pic of course. thoughts? I hate to not use them cause its fun and inspiring to see some big bucks but would rather have them come by my stand !
  2. If I drop another one before year end , I gotta try this. Never corned any before. Thanks
  3. Nice buck EJ!! Congrats!!!! Looks like this might be one you've been looking for. Big day in the field today . Lots of people with live action.
  4. I saw a setup last year on my way to hunt one morning past Verona beach. Park. Right where you turn off main road and headlights go was a deer . But it was waayyyy to stiff legged and just didn't look real. I went real slow cause I knew right away it wasn't real. A bad setup lol. But they prob thought ....hes gonna stop and shoot....but i was looking to see if I could spot their vehicles too. It was so obvious.
  5. Ok we got two out of three!!! Bionic you are up. It's gonna happen. Pull the gun up and take the safety off one is gonna run right into it! Good day in the field today.
  6. Thanks much !!! And can you set your alarm for about 6:30 sat morn? I could use some more luck then! Lol
  7. Congrats to BizDad! Nice buck. A lot of sitting sun up to sundown! Been rooting for him
  8. Congrats Jay!!!!!! That's a hard earned buck. Well deserved and a beauty. Heavy horns. Way to go. Got a little wore down and man it turns quick! Congrats
  9. Going back out for afternoon sit on other side of property. But dunno if you call it second rut or not but wow the rubs that showed up in the last few days!
  10. Nachos!. Onion, peppers, olives, ground buck and mighty taco sauce from TF. Very good . Thanks Jay. Just the right amount of heat in that. Lunch break before hitting the woods again.
  11. My buddy got his first deer ever with a gun. He's gotten one with a bow. Small doe. I think I was almost as excited as him. I knew if I walked into that spot I would either see deer or kick them to him. Walked in and real fresh tracks and they went right his way. I no sooner sat down and boom. He texts me he shot a doe and that I kicked out at least 3 and one went to him within 50 yards. He got down to check and see if he hit and thought he missed. So told me he was getting back in stand. Barely 5 minutes later two more shots.. lol what the efff... Lol. Says he shot twice at a buck and missed. So ingot down and told him I was coming over. He shows me where deer went into Small piece of brush area. But I only see one set of tracks come out. He isnt sure about the second one. So I have him get back in stand and I will push the brush and see if I can cut a track or push one back out to him. Sure enough his deer is laying right there. He actually shot the first one. So I call him over and he was crazy excited. Lol happy for him. I cut track on the buck he missed and tailed it for 300 yards at least to property line and yeah he missed it. But I was hoping he would get one of them he saw at least 5. Lol happy for him. When he went to check to see if he hit the first one he missed blood trail by like 20 yards. Deer only went about 70 yards and was piled up.
  12. G-MAN , you should write a book on setting up land to hunt or do consulting on the side. Great info there. If I had the land to do it I would follow those ideas for sure.
  13. Headed out to lease in 7F. The long 6 minute drive lol. Me and hunting buddy Corey gonna try to get one down with the gun , he hasn't tagged yet so hoping he sees one. Im going way around to far side and he is gonna sit in the hottest stand this year . Where I am going is also a small push for him and I saw 6 deer there opening day. And I am going to a stand that hasn't been hit all season. Hopefully some live action today.
  14. I knew he was my kinda guy when he and another guy were packing/canoeing out a moose and stopped to catch some trout in the stream for lunch. He and his buddy had a quick surf and turf over a campfire.
  15. will be doing one on the 8th - last weekend of gun. Its gotten to be a tradition on our lease. It is thick and nasty and swampy and guess who usually, as in always, is the pusher! - lol. Cause i usually have at least one deer in bow so i drive to the boys. Its a small drive but i do the push, two guys posted in stands and one guy goes with me on the trail i go in/out of for those deer that shoot the gaps. And usually i drive one right by my buddy that misses it . lol Quite a tradition. But it is def fun and some action. We usually sit for the am hunt for an hour and a half then i start the drive. Love when i hear the deer take off out of the stuff and wait to hear and hope for a shot. We dont do it til last weekend cause we are def blowing out the bedding areas. And I am def getting soaked and scratched up!
  16. I just can't get away from the circle reticles. Put the circle in kill zone and fire. Bushnell and red field have them. Red field has a nice 2x7 that ought to be plenty for those distances.
  17. Congrats to your Dad! Nice buck and that's the way to get it done. Half hour, jeans , get the tractor!
  18. Have looked - at a few small towns in Tennessee through online info. Would have to have a job with benefits, not a lot of money, but a decent place to hunt and fish for sure. Might have to do a road trip someday.
  19. Why do you stay in NY? I have contemplated this for myself several times. I dont have any kids - so no school issue/ties, I would think i can prob get a job elsewhere without too much problem. So why do I stay.......I really hate winter more and more , the older i get and the Job i have requires me to fight it all day. Why do I stay.......The state is not tax or 2nd ammendment friendly to say the least and there are many other states where it seems life would be easier. So why do I stay........ I guess its because its what I know. I have lived here all my life. The roads i travel on are mine. I have land to hunt that i know well, i have a job that i can get a lot of time off in the fall, i know that if I drop a worm harness in Oneida i am likely to get a walleye, and i dont care to be run off either from an at times unfriendly state due to taxes and regulation that i dont agree with. Its always been home. I do enjoy the springs/summers and fall. And like where i live most of the time. I do have to say the pull is getting stronger to leave the older i get. I am not a big fan of heat but winter makes a tougher life for all that have to deal with it. Maybe if i could look outside and not have to go out in it everyday it wouldnt be so bad. But gotta say its tough to remain a NYer, when so many things point to other states. Tenessee and Kentucky and W Virginia have been batting their pretty eyes at me for a while now......hmmmm
  20. forecasters were off for last night so we dodged it a bit - whew. but i am off to hunt tomorrow and one side of our lease is basically under water at this point. Hoping it forces them to other side more cause thats our plan for tomorrow
  21. i used to have that or something similiar with trout fishing. Maybe "nextholeitus" lol. I used to keep saying one more spot...around that bend looks good..... one time i found myself stuck out way after dark on a stream in the tug hill and didnt get back out til almost midnight by following the stream back. those hunts you go out on look like some adventures
