  1. Usually the day after Thanksgiving is second only to opening day. Thinking this cold is prob a big factor. It kept me inside yesterday and so far today.
  2. I got the biggest buck of my life this year and I was shaking afterword. Seeing a deer like that fall, I probably couldn't walk for an hour. Amazing buck and how big they can get.
  3. -1 here. Coldest day in the month of November ever. And there has never been a day below zero in Nov. Hunting......no (Maybe later....)
  4. I have one spot a lot like that where you have to go thru stands to get to others. And we actually hunt them in stages as much as we.can. Hunt the closest spots first and stay out of the back area near beds til later in season. I try to let them feel more protected there. I usually try for an early doe for the freezer in close.spots or by the field edges, then work my way back. Tomorrow I am hunting the very far back corner of our lease and it's only been hunted once and sat or Sunday we have two stands on a side that haven't been touched yet and I will be in one of them. Def less time in the best spots til closer to end of October. I try to save some for the best time of the year and hunt the fringe spots early . Esp fields. Good luck , you got some grit to you for sure. I think a lot of the mature bucks are most active at night anywhere. But prob is if there is just one or two around makes the odds tougher .
  5. I've always gotten the biggest bucks moving on cam at night. They are just more active then cause they are smart and that's why they are big. We had a big boy on our lease we never had a daytime pic of for three years. We named him " dark Knight". The big ones only make that one mistake to be shot esp if their isn't a lot of big bucks in the area and your hoping to get a crack at the one or two around. Only thing I can think is if you've been in that stand a real lot and they are avoiding it. Maybe have one stand on the property that you save for late season. My buck this year was from a late late season stand move cause I wasn't seeing much. Then shot a doe in it first afternoon and second afternoon a buck. Maybe blowing out stand by too much use? Or try to get closer to bedding area and between food. Maybe catch one headed back in too late or up early. If it's undisturbed land maybe a little rattling one day to try to bring one out. I usually have the same issue. Might be lucky to have one big buck per property and to hunt him down is tough. Usually it's the 5 point that makes a mistake in daylight trailing does.
  6. Terrible idea IMHO. Hope it never happens in my area. Have to draw for buck tag in area I lease to hunt that hands out doe tags for free cause they can't get rid of them all. ....Not interested. If you want a big buck hunt for it. But dont restrict others that are good with a smaller buck. Same for ARs Most us were pretty proud to be standing over a 4 point for our first buck hate to see a new hunter not be able to do the same and be hooked for life. Esp because a limited few of the license holders want to groom trophy's. Dont even see it ever happening and prob a moot argument as it took how many years just for a limited crossbow season. As I have said before ...I think I am the only guy that likes it just as it is. We have it good. 2 buck tags, generally easy to get doe tags for many areas and a long season. I got a buck with the bow in one WMU and it would suxk if I was done for the season. Esp when I mostly gun hunt in another WMU and am hunting a couple nice ones I have on cam. I just like to be able to hunt as much as possible.
  7. Def think it's worth getting a new one. I have deer in sealer and be good for 2+ years. One guy posted on here a black Friday deal of $56 at Walmart for one. Can't go wrong there.
  8. In your own group of buddies I would always go with the first guy that shot. Unless it was grazed or something. But that is usually worked out among good friends. Me and my buddies would probably argue more that the other guy tag it! Lol On state land I gotta say it's the guy that puts it down. Deer are tough and can live thru a lot or never be found. Guy that drops it drags it.
  9. Looks like a great day with a couple great guys. Congrats Dan on the deers down!
  10. Happy Thanksgiving all! Lots to be thankful for including you knuckleheads!
  11. You are die hard my friend. If anyone deserves the big one to walk thru it's you. Good luck. I am bailing til Friday afternoon due to the cold and wind.
