  1. forecasters were off for last night so we dodged it a bit - whew. but i am off to hunt tomorrow and one side of our lease is basically under water at this point. Hoping it forces them to other side more cause thats our plan for tomorrow
  2. i used to have that or something similiar with trout fishing. Maybe "nextholeitus" lol. I used to keep saying one more spot...around that bend looks good..... one time i found myself stuck out way after dark on a stream in the tug hill and didnt get back out til almost midnight by following the stream back. those hunts you go out on look like some adventures
  3. seems like these monsters are more often found dead than killed by a hunter. "Hole in the Horn buck" and the "Missouri Monster" http://www.northamericanwhitetail.com/editorial/hole-in-the-horn-buck-truth-revealed/262398#
  4. are those tanks of rocket fuel behind that buck? cause thats about the only thing that would keep me from shooting... lol....still might .....im a good shot......
  5. but was it because so many less people out due to the cold, then when it warmed up everyone was chomping at the bit to get out and moving them. Always seemed for me the big difference between gun and bow hunting was that gun hunting movement is more on pressure and bow is more on weather.
  6. im rooting hard for Bionic, TF and Biz's Dad ! they are putting in the time and effort for sure. Everyday checking and hoping to see their hero pics! I was getting pretty disgusted this bow season and it turned in an instant 2 days before it ended - hang in there guys!
  7. already schools closing early and after school activities. Forecast for up to a foot thru tomorrow - blah.
  8. Always found my best days were just before a storm coming in and right after. Got my best buck ever this year on the afternoon before a storm that closed us at work the next day. And have taken several deer and seen a lot of deer before and after storms as they seem to hunker down during a storm just as we do. Even thunderstorms as well in the early fall and snowstorms in later fall. I also caught the biggest bass I have ever gotten right before remnants of a hurricane came thru one fall. Have always rushed out to beat an incoming storm when I see it coming. Have cut it close a couple of times and was dragging out this year in heavy snow and one year was tracking one and just as I went to gut it was a white out. Lol but it sure was productive! A lot of those good days were also on days wind was in the east and due to switch west from a cold front. I always try to keep several productive areas that I can set up for this east wind and def hit before a storm/cold front Awesome post and information, thanks for sharing and hope you stay on as a member here to share info like this. Much appreciated. Great read. That being said winter storm warning just issued here for tonite and I can't hunt today!!!! Grrrr!
  9. always thought this was a cool story - two moose found like that and Maine Dec did a lifesize mount https://www.wideopenspaces.com/incredible-true-story-battling-maine-bull-moose-mount-made/
  10. geeze - didnt even get the leaves raked before this year hit. We had a long winter that stretched into spring last year and already off to a tough start. Below zero for the first time in November on record, already had a snow day at work, no indian summer whatsoever. This isnt shaping up to be a light winter. Was thinking it might be with all the fall rain and wind etc. Hoping this trend/pattern breaks soon.
  11. My Dad was a chef and i remember one time he called out a restaurant we were at for this. He told the chef that his scallops were fish and the chef said he ordered them as scallops. My dad even knew where he got them from and told him scallops shouldnt flake like fish and what texture they should be etc. We left there and didnt go back. We used to go to some restaurants and they would ask him to come back in the kitchen to show them how to prepare something - he was always more than happy to help out, he loved it.
  12. yeah for the buck i am having mounted i made copies and took a pic as well. Cause i needed to have a tag on the head for the taxi . Since my tag was with that i made copies for me just in case.
  13. had an 8 chasing away a 4 point last year and he was all sorts of pissed of at him. Was snort wheezing and racking up a tree with his antlers, chased him for about 50 yards! i grunted at him and he never got closer than 50 yards to me - during bow season. Was cool to watch though have been blown at many many times being busted on the way into a stand in the dark and it scares the crap outa you! but this was the first time i ever heard one snort wheeze.
  14. lol i do the same thing. Have them in a box. But always wondered how long i have to keep them for. Til the meats gone? lol
  15. Brings up a question..... how long do you keep your filled tags?
  16. Nice ! my best and only place i took deer this year was on about a 10 acre corn plot. good luck and nice spots to have esp late season. I am hoping they dont cut corn in the spot i was on cause i only bowhunt it but can hunt it again in late muzzleloader
  17. very cool that while in the midst of getting your buck your also thinking about getting your Dad setup for a turkey hunt. Great story
  18. Wow nice buck for sure !! Hornhunter.....maybe ..... but no lack of meat in this hunt either! Nice - reminds me of pics of bucks from Alberta or something .... huge body. Congrats
  19. Please do!!! Looks like an awesome trip
  20. the link worked - i could see all the pics
  21. first year of archery you sure drew a rainy one! never seen a fall like this
  22. ive shot two deer that were injured. Both gut shot. I waited , gutted it out, waited some more and no one ever showed up. Whether i wanted them or not, tagged them and took them away. Also have found a 4 point and a 7 point someone shot and didnt recover. (didnt do anything with them, one was half eaten and the other had no idea how long it was there). A deer goes by thats wounded i am putting it down and IF someone shows up to claim it will settle it then. Most likely they will get the deer. If its a buddy they def get the deer. If i shoot a deer that has an injured foot or a graze or something the other is out of luck though. Cause i will tag it when i drop it and therefore its mine.
