  1. We have a dipsy we are trying out this weekend. And I have lead core setups. I can get get down to about 35 I would think. Have heard there is some nice eyes in there. Thought it would be a neat thing to troll for eyes and browns. Thanks
  2. antelope is still on the loose. A few years ago a buffalo got loose in Munnsville. It was loose for months and the DEC said it was ok to take it , so a guy got it during hunting season.
  3. have a buddy coming out in late sept for some fishing for a weekend Sept 22-23, and we are going to fish for eyes in Oneida . But am thinking if that west wind kicks us off we need a backup plan. How is Otisco for fall eyes and browns? any info appreciated. We have another possible idea for a backup on a small local lake but would like to have a trout option and dont have a lot of local trout lakes. Been eyeing otisco a little. Have fished it before for bass and tigers and did ok. In late sept will the browns be real deep ?
  4. my toughest thing has been where to start at and how deep to run. Been fishing a lot of 40 ft lately and slow trolling with trolling motor two rods with worm harnesses and no planers. I actually run two spinning rods in my hands as the bite is just so light. and we are going really slow. more like a quicker drift in a wind to keep the spinner working. This has been working out pretty well. Then we try planers in that 40ft area and run one line 6 colors and another 6.5 and picking up some but not as consistent as we would like to. Course it is also mid august - prob the worst time to catch eyes so maybe expecting too much. But we are working it. Best luck on planers has been with 3.5 inch sticks. Going out Sat for sure and was thinking about going right to the planers and the big motor troll but that worm harness action has been pretty good to me this season.
  5. i have one from Lowes. One of the best things ever for trimming . I think it is a fiskar as well. Works great. The hunting ext saws were built way to cheaply and cost as much as a good one at lowes. Not a big fan of the hooymans at all.
  6. he is gonna run a braid and also got a snubber line on it. Something else to play with lol. We have a hard time nailing down our exact speed but we are right around 2 mph. Downloaded a couple speed apps and it says 2 mph but it must round it. We have been running lead on the planers and he is gonna flatline a dipsey in the middle. I like the lead better cause of running colors etc but the mono/braid is cert easier to work with. Plus i think its easier to guage depth with the lead will def have him print out a chart for the dipsey - thanks
  7. The guy that runs the wild park is a great guy. He is also a hunter. Goes out west every year for a hunt trip. Has a great zoo in a small town. All the wild cats there. Neat place better than the Syracuse zoo. But I guess this one is from a local farm? Never heard of a farm in the area with antelope before. Esp one on the same road as the wild park.
  8. I will try to do better next time . Lol
  9. These are only a few miles from my hunting lease... Lolhttps://www.localsyr.com/news/local-news/state-police-responding-to-reports-of-escaped-antelopes-in-chittenango
  10. So I took two shots.....the first one was the best. Wanted to be sure it was right. Not too bad. Could be better. Will be by season. 20 yards. Fish cleaning table in the background to be used sat!
  11. and it is a huge difference in feel of the pounds of draw when it is lowered a bit. and 52 is plenty to shoot a deer with . Need to be able to draw and hold it a little to sight in to shoot. If its too much it just messes up accurracy. And i bet a bit more practice and another class or two at the sodfather academy and youll be hitting the beer can too!
  12. Looks pretty good ! once you get that anchor point down your shots will be consistant. So if you keep grouping to the left you can tweak those sights a bit and dial it in - good to see you shooting! And looks like your doing well already!
  13. I have that exact same smoker as TF. And yes it works great for a lot of stuff but I've been looking to make some bacon etc and with charcoal trying to get a consistent heat is tough. Esp when I need to smoke for like 6 hours. It works good and gives good flavor etc but never know if it gets to the right heat for any amount of time. The smoked venison bacon recipe I have seen calls for like 2 hour intervals at 3 different temps and I just can't get that with charcoal one. But the charcoal one is great to throw on some sausage or chicken etc for a tasty smoke. Or to finish a pork roast that was cooked. But even with a whole chicken I often finish it on the grill to be sure it got to temp.
  14. A buddy and I split a three pack. We each have an arrow with the lighted nocks and the first guy that shoots a deer gets the third. Lol. We did this for the first year we used them to try them out. We both loved them so got some more each. So now I shoot the green and he shoots the red so that if we are out hunting together we don't get them confused. Lol. And if we both get a deer it will be like Christmas lights in the woods. Lol.
  15. Good timing for me on this topic. I am looking at getting a diff smoker myself. I have an old charcoal one and it works but the heat isn't as consistent as I want it to be. Been looking at a master built electric. Just for ease of use and consistent temps.
  16. yeah need lots of prizes..... i expect something good for placing 9th!
  17. i use them and love em. Started using them 2 years ago. Def a huge help to know where arrow went and to get a better idea on where your shot placement was. I use the nocturnals and have had good luck with them. Def easier to find the arrow on an evening hunt and a track in the dark. $20 for a 3 pack at walmart and sometime can catch them on sale - i havent noticed any change in my shot with them than regular nocks
  18. my fishing buddy just got a dipsey and is gonna give that a try as well.
  19. Great - they are evolving ! Deer that are bipedal....... its hard enough to trick them now. If one starts talking i am done!
  20. nice buck! hope you see him "live" and have a good front row seat!
  21. It was just Pygmy dressed in camo on the trail of a hot doe.....
  22. If I'm doing a lot of hiking and don't plan on shots being over 125 or so. I carry my model 94 30/30 with a 2.5 power scope. Light, accurate, quick follow up shots if needed.
