My super cheap trail markers

those would be good to use for yardage markers from stands too. I always range out where 30 yards is at each of my stands when i get setup just as a base when one comes in and i lose focus on yardage and dont have time to range it again. -
if its that far back in I am better off eating it right there.

it mustve been dark - its a doe buddy! lol

i used the rages for a couple years - but hated that the blades kept falling out of the bands. Walk thru brush look in quiver and two blades sticking out, sit in stand and brush the arrow against the rest..a blade falls out. PITA - dont want to have to be sure the blades are in when i go to shoot. Switched to the Grim Reaper Whitetail special and love them. exit wound on doe at 30 yards!

thanks - inspired by ideas on this thread from Jdubs and Doewacker. Hopefully finished pics this weekend.

Stopped at the local Amish store and picked up spices for venison sausage. Gonna make an apple breakfast and bacon burgers with first deer. If I get a second one planning on smoked sausage rope and then cracked pepper and jalapeño brats. Cmon season.....

i have made mock scrapes a few times and even places where there are overhanging trees but they seem to make there own in regular spots instead. Even sprayed trees with scent too to try and get them to use it. But seems you need that "active " branch. Have seen people trim a scrape branch from one location to another and it worked though.

My work in progress. Hope to finish this weekend. Gotta finish pergola roof and block in rest of fire pit. Then fireside with a beer just in time for some cooler weather I hope.

Looking To Fish The Waddington Area Of The St. Lawrence
Robhuntandfish replied to grampy's topic in Fishing
i havent fished up the river that far but have spent a lot of time on the st . Lawrence. We used to stay in the morristown area at Jacque Cartier state park and camp and then fish the river for several days and then throw in a day on black lake. The whole river has lots of smallies for sure. Since i dont know the Waddington area - my best advice is that the water is gin clear in the river and 6 lb test or a braid and a flouro leader is a must. But we used to get smallies all over the place. There are shelves off the edge of the river usually and they drop from 5-15-30 feet pretty quickly. Early am we used to just look in bays for rockpiles and then later in day fish off those ledges. Drop shots are great here and jigs, but lose some tackle in the rocks. Need a little extra weight though due to the current usually. Watch out for rock piles in that river that pop up quickly. The usual spots with points and islands are always good too. You will def get smallies. 5 lb stringers are a little tough but usually lots of action. Watch the locals too. There was a spot near Morristown in front of old man island called the "Basshole" always saw lots of people anchored there using crawfish. It was a hole basically that was about 40 ft and in a spot with a lot of current. We used to fish for eyes and perch for the most part but also lots of smallies. Anywhere that the bottom drops with the current is usually a good spot as they will be on ambush there. Good luck! -
I have only had 6 I believe and two of those were for bow fishing. Have had 4 bear bows for deer , but didn't get into a lot of bowhunting til about 10 years ago. Only dabbled with it before. This will be my third season with the latest bow.

The lease I have would be unhuntable if the landowner didn't keep a couple trails cut. Most of the rest is so thick you can't hardly get thru it. He went and cut trails in it and keeps it mowed down. The thing is you can cut that brush but it will grow back in quickly , so unless you keep maintaining it next year will be the same. But we cut a lot with just a folding hand saw and breaking branches over. We cut a deer trail in an area last year and it got a lot of use and this year couldn't even tell where it was. So I cut another in that area. But we go in with a pole saw and a hand saw each every year and trim what needs to be done before hunt season. A day or two of hard work but it is worth it.

When I used to go to Maine made a big loop. Went up the coast then thru the woods on the way back. Used to love to stop at little roadside places for lobsta rolls or a clam boat. Haven't been in years
