  1. Agree here for sure. With all my hunting buddies a big buck is awesome. But we all want to be sure there is meat in the freezer, and that we have fun. We still get the jitters over a doe. TV isn't real life for most people, and most hunters don't have access to a lot of big bucks. We just love to hunt a big buck is only a bonus.
  2. Pulaski got 7 inches of rain in 4 hours. Most of the finger lakes counties in state of emergency.
  3. I wouldn't pass on this one anymore for sure. Nice buck
  4. i actually plan my season in stages. The early season I hunt the field areas where deer are feeding and try to target an early doe for the freezer or the off chance of a nice buck. I actually try not to hunt my farther back in places til later in the season more towards pre-rut and rut. Then i hit those on the right winds. This way i dont blow them out for the best time of year, yet still get to hunt the fields early season where its still more of a summer pattern and do more evening than morning hunts. Towrds the end of October i start hunting those deeper places in the am's as well - always on the right wind . They havent been disturbed and deer still feel safe there as i have been on the fringes.
  5. All that right there is just good! nice. Price Chopper here in town also makes a good lobsta mac and cheese. BUT I am trying to lose some poundage here....... I did get the ingredients to make that carribean jerk chicken, pineapple and banana mayo sandwich - it intrigued me - something different.
  6. But it's nice to already have meat in the freezer by then! Welcome to an additional 7 weeks of hunting season!
  7. My hunting buddie's would be "IMLOSTHELP" Lost the minute he leaves the truck....
  8. My hunting buddy and I always play a game as to which tag goes where. He tells me he is going to shoot a deer then call me and ask what tag to use. I have to use some strategery as I hunt three different DMPs so have to plan accordingly. But plan those doe permits out for applying and go from there. You will always have a doe/buck tag and a doe tag for archery anyway.
  9. pure communism! the red menace. "Nobody puts ketchup on a hotdog! " - Dirty Harry
  10. I would say the good ole days are ok but al lot of the good days are now. Gotta love rangefinders and how accuratte the new bows and sights are. Better equipment means better deer hunting and better shot placement. Also like having a cell phone in the stand and be able to talk to my buddies i am hunting with and of course this site too! makes for a better experience. And warmer clothes and handwarmers and better boots etc. Love trail cams they are just fun and make pre season more exciting and to see what might come by even if it doesnt. The reason hunting has evolved is because US hunters wanted to make it better. I think the good ole days are now.
  11. The earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old. We have been accurately tracking weather for just over 100 years. And we think we have any idea of weather patterns in the blink of an eye. People tend to think they are more important in the big picture than they really are. We once thought (and not that long ago in the big picture) that the earth was flat and the center of the universe. I think the jury is still out on this one.
  12. And he saw it on the internet and everything on the internet is true. Lol
  13. Venison jalapeño sausage (getting low on) garlic mashed taters, broccoli
  14. That mountain doesn't look too brushy this time! Looks great ! Bet it didn't last long!
  15. Today's 30 yards 1st shot. Then 2 at 40. Getting dialed
  16. I have ebbs and flows with getting up for hunting . But once it hits and I am in the stand and have some action, I am all in. After opening day of gun i tend to become less interested again. Really got solid back into fishing this year. Don't as much for a few years as I used to fish 10x more than hunt years ago. But last 10 years really been into hunting cause I have some decent spots. Have done a lot of fishing this year and have had some success for sure. But am starting to slide out of that and into hunting ......I can feel it coming....lol.
  17. A strike out this morn. First time this year. Strong east wind made it tough, then had knot break when reeling in the one that hit and lost a planer, lead line and lure. Better day tomorrow.
  18. if it wasnt left handed i would have taken it off your hands. I like mine .
  19. That sucks cause it seemed it never got windy. But I saw the small craft advisory, no idea why they issued that. He prob didn't want to take the liability of being out with a posted advisory but it would seem to be a great day. Hope u get to reschedule
  20. Picked up a 450 myself this year and am looking forward to using it. Although I live for bow hunting , I'm still a sucker for a new gun now and again.
