    First buck

My first buck was Saturday after Thanksgiving '94. I was going to college and working at a sporting goods store that I will not mention on this site. I was pissed they would not give me black Friday off so we were out the day after. On walk into my stand I had some serious stomach cramps and had to take a dump. Didn't have TP so had to wipe my ass with oak leaves. Great start. Thought my day was done before it started. Was only sitting a short while and I see a deer with antlers way out in front of me walking away. I had a grunt tube so I did a couple grunts and he turned and started walking walking towards me. At about 75 yards, resting off knee, bouncing like crazy, I pulled the trigger. Spined him. Had to make a mercy shot when I got to him. 5 point. Remember like yesterday. 2. Froze my nuts off this morning. Girls are out shopping so I ordered Tiger vs Phil and enjoying a dry aged ribeye, berbere seasoned sweet potato wedges and a salad from my recliner. Sierra Nevada too. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  3. I hear Wegmans is carrying the Double Dry Hopped? Gotta try to get some when out in Buffalo next week. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  4. Home alone for dinner tonight the girls are at dance class so whatevers in the fridge. Over easy eggs on English muffins with cheddar and salsa verde, chipotle Tabasco, a side of avocados and the worst bacon I have ever had. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  5. Very sorry for your loss. He was one tough dog.
  6. Definitely did the right thing. Never good to take a shot you are not sure of. You owe it to the deer. I had a very similar situation last season. Had the biggest buck I have seen in the woods working down a hill towards me and at about 50 yards out stopped behind a tangle of limbs that were about 5 yard from me. Had to walk another 10 yards for a clear shot. Could've took a chance and shot through the mess but I passed. He turned around and walked back the way he came. Those limbs got knocked down that day....
  7. I have a light pair of Cabela's windstoppers (I think that's what they are called) that I wear walking in and out if it is really cold. On stand I just put a hand warmer in each pocket of my coat - no gloves.
  8. Yup same here. Yesterday morning fresh tracks in the snow everywhere. Saw a bunch of deer in the morning and connected on one. Nothing in the afternoon. Walk in today and no fresh tracks, saw 4 single doe from dark to 2pm.
  9. Well, exact science or not, upon further inspection today teeth aren't actually that worn. When my dad looked yesterday rigor had set in and he didn't get a good look at the actual teeth towards the back of the jaw. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  11. Thanks for the reply. Interesting. I'll have to take a closer look when I get home. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  12. About a month ago my wife surprised me with tickets to see comedian Jim Breuer. I said "Awesome! What's the date?" Replies "November 16". "Uhhh...great..." Well Breuer was great. Got home at 11. Got to sleep sometime after midnight. Up at 4:30. In my blind at 6:34.
  13. The deer my dad shot today had upper teeth that appear to be worn down to the gums. Upon closer look it looks he has no teeth on his bottom jaw except for a couple back molars. The deer had a big body and gray face but only an average size (for our area) 6 point rack. I have to be honest we have never paid much attention to the teeth of any deer we have shot but took a look today because the deer just looked old. Took a couple pics but their not great If he actually is old could the smallish rack be a factor of poor nutrition due to lack of teeth? Or do these teeth look normal and I just don't know what I am looking at? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  14. Dad got a 6! Old deer. Teeth are worn down to his gums. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  15. Woods have gone silent. Haven't heard a shot in about an hour. Up to 10 seen. One buck chasing a doe but not one within 150 yards Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  16. I've seen 7 so far nothing in range. Good amount of shooting around me. Cold and damp with this snow. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  17. Probably in the minority but not really. I know the deer have been making their way through our property on a consistent basis. Worried the snow could change up the pattern just in time for Saturday. In last 20 years or so, have only had snow on ground opening day once. Don't remember what we saw but I know we didn't take one. I can say that late season if snow on ground, deer on our property are few and far between.
  18. My condolences to you and your family.
  19. Nothing fancy - Ruger American in 7mm-08. Nikon 2-7x scope. Shooting 140gr Federal Nosler Ballistic Tips. Shot this 3 shot group at 50 yards off shooting bag last weekend. I'm happy with it. Now can't wait to see what it will do on a deer. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
