End of season blues - a gear washing question
MPHunter replied to sad_story's topic in General Hunting
Just throw my hunting clothes in and use the scent killer detergent. I think the scent killer detergent effectively wipes out any scents left behind from previous washes. I then air dry. -
My wife wanted a new dishwasher. It was delivered and installed Friday.

Had something similar happen with my '06 Dodge Ram while driving on the NJ Turnpike. It was about 2 years old at the time. I pulled out to pass and when it hit 75mph downshifted to either first or second gear. It was like slamming on the brakes. Front of the truck nose dived, tires chirped. I just about crapped my pants. I pulled back into right lane let off gas and transmission shifted back up. Pulled into next rest area and shut off truck. Started back up and everything seemed to reset. Kept it under 70 the rest of way home and it was fine - until I got home. Go to take it to the dealer Monday morning. Shift into drive and it bogs down from the start like the transmission is stuck in 4th or 5th gear. Get it to the dealer and was told it was a bad solenoid in the transmission. They fixed it and haven't had any issues since. Still have the truck.

Grampy - That sucks. Glad they got the guy. Last week I came across this article. Also out by you. https://www.timesunion.com/news/article/Not-quite-dead-deer-leads-to-charges-in-Berne-13444938.php

JDubs, I've clicked on this post a few times and have read all the replies, each time with a tear in my eye. I too had a yellow lab whose name was Jake. This past July we had to make the decision to put him down. Hardest thing I have had to do to end the life of my right hand man of 14 years. It sounds like your pup had similar issues as mine. Feel good that you did the right thing to end the suffering and he is in a better place. God bless. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

While sighting in this year my dad had a misfire with Winchester Deer season XP. The round was dimpled from firing pin but did not fire.- 10374 replies

Had to put down our 14 year old lab last summer. It really sucks. They are a member of the family and it hurts like hell to let them go. Thoughts are with you.

How many acres do you hunt if it is private land .
MPHunter replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
125 acres myself, dad and two other guys hunt. All hardwods. -
Dick's Sporting Goods is taking a little dive
MPHunter replied to dbHunterNY's topic in General Chit Chat
Yup...I think it had more to do with the town planners than the area not being able to support the store. About the same time Dick's was expanding their Latham Farms store to include Field & Stream. Just speculating, but I'm sure Dick's didn't want the competition and were an established tax payer wanting to expand (and pay more taxes). Wouldn't be surprised if Cabela's would be asking for tax incentives to locate in the town. Locating behind the Times Union also would exacerbate an already terrible traffic situation at that end of Wolf Road - especially rush hour and holidays - probably something that was considered by the town. -

During my travels this week I shopped at the Cabela's in Buffalo and the Bass Pro in Utica. Both had same exact gear - especially clothing. It is a bummer to lose the selection that the competing stores offered. -
All of Big Ditch''s beers are good. I wish we could get them back here in Albany. I was really disappointed in the Southern Tier. For a double IPA it didn't have really any hop bitterness or flavor to speak of. It tastes old if that makes sense.

Picked up a couple beers in Buffalo today. DDH Hayburner very good. Southern Tier, dont waste your money. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

That was my point exactly. I think when deer notice anything out of the ordinary on their normal travel routes (sight or scent) they will adjust. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk- 10374 replies

So I see a bunch of posts "I wasn't in my stand that day and the buck I was waiting for showed up on camera the day I wasn't there!" Coincidence?? Maybe the deer are smarter than we think.... Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk- 10374 replies

Why is a Rem 700 better than a Ruger American?
MPHunter replied to jmark's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I went through customer service on their website. Got a response right away and received the UPS ship notification email before the end of the day for the new stock. I'd give it another try. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk -
Why is a Rem 700 better than a Ruger American?
MPHunter replied to jmark's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I can't compare to a Remington 700 but I purchased a Ruger American in 7mm-08 last year. I was looking for an inexpensive hunting rifle and it was between the Ruger and the Savage Axis. After handling both I chose the Ruger. I liked the safety and trigger better on the Ruger. I put a Nikon Prostaff scope on it and a Claw sling. All in about $550. It shoots great. No complaints there. My only complaint is I didn't notice in the store that the fore-end of the stock was just slightly warped. The barrel is free floated but the stock was just barely touching the barrel on the left side at the end. I emailed Ruger about this and I had a new stock on my doorstep four days later no questions asked. Great customer service. All in all I am happy with the American. -
Agree. I've never come across a fish that could pass as a scallop. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Have been thinking about using pallets. Less infill. Maybe next year. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Probably not the kind of ground blind you are looking for but we use 1x3's for structure and fill in with dead branches and pine boughs. Works great for us. Part of the tradition to freshen up the blinds every year. Here's one after fixing up this year. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Never lost a handgun but a few years back myself and a co-worker were working on a job down in southern Jersey. I drove and we spent three nights down there. It was a nasty, smelly place. Last day there we took the opportunity to shower at their locker rooms before heading home. Got a call from my co-worker later that night asking if I could look in my truck for his handgun he couldn't find! WTF! I didnt know he was carrying all week in my vehicle! Wasn't in my truck. I'm thinking he left it at the facilty down in Jersey and we are screwed when the client finds it. He found it in his suitcase. Not a big deal for him and I wouldn't have cared if he let me know but I drove this asshole around for three days across state lines and he never told me he was carrying.
