  1. Joseph, you only live once so get out there and enjoy yourself, for heaven sake, LOL. I've got a couple hundred bales to put away. Great haying weather but the dew sure falls early.
  2. The most inportant post this year! Thanks Cabin. And remember people, treestand saftey harnesses and ropes have a shelf life. Replace every 5 years under " Normal Use." Extreme conditions like mine, I go with 3 years. And make sure, you destroy your old, so someone else doesn't use.
  3. Bow season slow to start off, but picks up quickly during any type of breeding activity. The big boys start showing say third week of October. This continues right into gun, slows for a few weeks, then hits a second high during late November second breeding cycle.
  4. When looking to buy a new tractor, this is the time of the year when deals can be made. Dealers are looking to move inventory and are willing to knock thousands off to move those tractors that are coming due. For this reason, a utility ( regular size} tractor, many times can be purchased for near compact tractor prices. Their is a far better market for the compact verses the utility models, thus lowering the price on them.
  5. Great idea! Going right on mine. Right under what I wrote on it before installing, which reads " I VOTE!"
  6. I let the boys take a mature doe, maybe 165lber. Their always are some every year.
  7. Nice pics Grow. I'm seeing more young buck action closer to the house, now that the alfalfa & clover up knee high about 50 yds. away. Went out to spot a last stand yesterday, viewed several turkey a few over so I sat against an oak. Not long after, a nice 6 went, maybe 40 yds up wind. He give a real nice showing. Couldn't get the camera up for pics, as I was pretty much pinned . This cool weather gets them active.
  8. Bet you made the turkeys happy! Were they sucessful, in other years, surface broadcasting?
  9. If you ever noticed an oat field that has been harvested, The light oats that blow out the back of the combine, on the ground will grow once a nice rain falls. They won't do much, as the roots have trouble penatrating the ground, but will germanate and grow. The oats should have been planted first, covered with 1" of soil, roll, then broadcast the clover seed and firm the gound by rolling good again. Hey, but what the heck, you have the seed. Try broadcasting the seed before a nice rain, you never know until you try. If you try this, snaps some pics of the outcome. I be interested in a new no-till method. I am also planting more oats today, if dry enough soil conditions.
  10. First and foremost, I'll get in the stands, and thank God for giving me the oppertunity to participate in another deer season. As far as statagy, I take my keen hunting skills a field and enjoy, enjoy, & ENJOY! Have fun everyone and safety first!
  11. I going to plant more oats next spring at that price, LOL. Anyways, I plant oats right to about September 20th. Oats will grow in cooler wet weather nicely. The deer eat them right into Thanksgiving. Oats are a sure bet when other grasses, legumes fade.
  12. It sure has a doe head on it. Personally, I'd want to satisfy my curiosity, to pass on future knowledge. I have witnessed animals like this, but never manage to see during deer season. Maybe they don't pass by the first hunter.
  13. I would think an antlered doe would still be in velvet? IDK.
  14. Pics from yesterday. Turkeys have been in the new clover before and after the showers. This is my expermental plot that took 2 years to come in clover. They have found the pears, left their calling card, LOL.
  15. Sounds like you enjoy your bow as much as I. My wife said I started talking in my sleep about deer. Seasons getting close, LOL.
  16. Make sure you get one that shuts off the ringer and has a vibrate function, so not to spook game. I think just about everyone does by now, but some of the cheap ones may not.
  17. Chasing Tail, LOL. Is that in the no hunting zone of Rochester?
  18. Protecting ones hearing from muzzle blast is one of their features and they do recieve pretty high ratings in that respect. I would think that should be a strong concern among fire arm hunters.
  19. We have had nearly 2" of rainfall since Tuesday morning. It's starting to head back to where it was pre August with a muddy mess, water standing once again. Rainy drizzle right into the afternoon today with temps slowly falling into the low 50's. And to think, my oats planting was due Tuesday. Oh ,well, maybe drying out this weekend, LOL. Edit, dang spelling
  20. Looked back at all 7 pages of gear discussion to locate anything about them, and was surprised to see no one has brought up anything on this topic. I'm considering purchasing one this season, now that the prices has become more affordable. I feel that I am missing key " hearing tones", being around diesel engines most of my life. The ability to amplify sound to hear greater distances should gain me an advantage as game approch. My point of this thread would be to hear from those of you that have any history of using one, being Walkers or any other brand. Also any one that would like to chime in with pros and cons on them are welcomed. Walkers have ear muff models, as well as clip on behind the ear types. I seem to be leaning on the clip on, behind the ear model, for convience.
  21. LOL, I misplaced the thread for the actual contest.
  22. I figure in bowhunting, it's all about being out there.
