  1. Society has always relied on drugs and alcohol to ease their pain. People have the power, but not the strength, sometimes, to over power their addiction. Depression is a stong force in nature. You see and read about it all the time. Does a famous person's death teach people, doesn't seem so. Maybe if one person can take notice, and turn their life around, then all has not been loss.
  2. Think she ahead of her time. Don't think a majority of the people are ready for a women president, quite yet. She does speak alot of truth, but, who was it that said, " you can't handle the truth?"
  3. I think an xbow has it's place. it sure is a challange ,cocking them " true " in a tree stand. Can't say I would use one all the time, but it's sure nice having weapons of choice.
  4. The only reason why crossbows are not in archery season right now, because the DEC will introduce an early muzzleloader season in the Southern zone. It is already hidden in the " 5 year deer management plan on page 39. They could care less about xbow . Their objective is to remove deer in those WMU's that need thinning, with a more efficient weapon. Far higher numbers in muzzleloader hunters, than xbow. I am outragged at this and will be commenting on the 45 comment period comimg up soon, for the management plan.
  5. Crossbow supporter- Yes. Facebook supporter- Not.
  6. Are certain conditions like heart attack while hunting afield, even listed in the accident report? If not, were they listed years ago? This type of change can also make the figures look better. The way goverment tends to change the standard on items, to make it look better.
  7. Four Season, are you talking the whole state? That would never fly with the DEC, in areas where deer population is increasing and they want to raise harvest levels.
  8. I have a crossbow, that I could of used. I watched the Crossbow 101 video. Filled out the Crossbow Certificate of Qualification & Practiced. Would of been nice to harvest a deer with a new weapon, but I never took it out. Never felt good enough to take it to field without a saftey coarse. It's alot different than a recurve, sure isn't no gun. It's in a league of its own. The state needs to get on board, with a saftey coarse. Bow & Gun saftey coarses don't cover crossbows. This needs attention now. Everyone that want to use them should be required to take the coarse.
  9. Have often wondered about the phrase,"Shed Hunting." Nothing mentioned in the New York guide book about it. Looking at the definition of hunting, bothering wildlife, weapon or not, maybe it should be called shed looking. What are your thoughts?
  10. They have chewed the willows back and have hit the lower hanging maple buds here in early Jan. Signs of an early spring? Red clover has new shoots. Green grasses still on east side of woods. Even the alfalfa fields are being grazed yet. Global warming feels better to me, than Global cooling, as long as it doesn't go to far.
  11. The bear on the right was 2010 largest archery bear, 20-5. I talked with the man that harvested it. Don't remember a weight. Their is only a side view in the 2010 book. It's big. The left , I'm not sure of.
  12. Yes, and not just talking about chemicals that are being sprayed on produce, chemicals that the U.S. has banned many years ago. Also ideal soil conditions are obtained in some countries for growing vegies, in that say, not so appealing ways, the people over here would approve of. With little or no regulation, these countries are free to grow and export their goods right int the U.S..
  13. I don't know the reason and hopefully someone else can say. I purchased 2 full chokes for the 870's, both saying, do not to use steel shot with a full choke. I was thinking damage to the barrel.
  14. Eddie's right. Theris only one true New York team, The Buffalo Bills. Still like the Giants over New England, 28-24. Anyone watching the Pro Bowl?
  15. Use to make 4 gallons of maple syrup back in high school days, many many moons ago. We heated it down from 50 gal. of sap. That was some of the best flavored syrup. It was takened from silver maple trees on the farm. Two things I remember very well. On a warm day, 40, better empty the pails more often, as the sap ran out of the tree, at a very fast drip. Second,When getting close to the finish product, watch it closely, or you end up with maple candy.
  16. In todays world of inported products, it has never been more inportant to grow your own food. Don't know about saving money, but sure is nice to know what your injesting. And with all the work, fresh vegies sure taste all the better. Our garden is all planed out. Seeds will be in hand by end of Feb.. Have some early spots where onion, radish, and lettuce will be planted, hopefully getting dry slot in April. After this 5 inch snowfall we had this morning, kinda puts the damper on things.
  17. Those pics are great. They deserve to go under Hunting Related Pictures, so more people can view. Thanks for sharing
  18. Really, a tree can produce 200+ gal. of sap. Maybe depends on the year? Colder the better.
  19. The penalty should be alot more then what it is. Hit them where it hurts.
  20. Enjoy shed hunting. It's a great way to get out in the field. Did it for years, still haven't found one yet. Think all the bucks move south for the winter here. Have noticed some colorful birds from Canada flying around.
  21. Transplanted some 18" red oak trees yesterday, that were started from seed. No frost in the ground, have the extra time right now. Never did this in January, hope they live.
  22. Someone mention 12- 21- 2012. Don't like that date at all. Not one little bit. Think it's the last day of deer season this year, oh no.
  23. I've got pullets, can't say ever thought about making stew out of their feet. Might be good to the nearest foot. Sorry, I tried.
  24. It's tough to say what u will like, body size is the biggest key to comfort. Get out there, look at alot of stands. Going to be tough, beause most places don't even have them set up to test out. You can't stand on the floor and say that one looks comfortable. Got to get in the saddle, so to speak. We have mostly good ones, the others we use in places where a 10' height is ok.. Was into Gander, the other day, looked and grabbed a few stands. Compare to our stands, which we own many makes, some are approching + years, they felt alot cheaper built. Also, don't reley on the side, seat supports. Most will bend fairly easy., no matter what u pay. Get yourself a good body harness.
  25. Thats a great point. I knew of one other person like that. They would flush a turkey, before shooting, like a pheasant. More sportmanship to it, when asked. Never agreed with this, but they use to harvest some nice birds. Used a 12 ga.. because the more pellets in the air, the better chance of hitting.
