  1. Says it 38 here. Raw and damp feeling walking up. A nice tom in the tomatoes. Hadn't seen a turkey in a while here, now all to once their back. To bad I didn't get my fall turkey permit, LOL.
  2. Overcast and windy here. Dark lake effect snow clouds showing their ugly face. Good day for stalking.
  3. Nothing short of incredible. If it came from the opposite side of the body, how did it miss the lungs? Maybe a deflection off rib or shoulder bone. Bet he had a limp.
  4. I have been invited to hunt on 1000 acre family farms in Illinois several times, but always to cheap to spend the money. Instead, I'll foot the extra cash on hunter related items.
  5. Button bucks always get disowned by they mother, when they start to bother them; like a few months after their born. Doe fawn can stay with their mothers for years, if the mother survives. That buck could be from last year, if he's a four or six; or could be older.
  6. Steady light rain this morning but, the deer don't mind. They were walking tree to tree eating leaves. I had to chase turkey out of my tomato plants again, on the walk up. Strange year; no frost and still picking tomatoes. Peppers have to be picked green. Red comes on, they start to rot.
  7. I really had two screen names. Landtracdeerhunter was my first until the site got a suppository; then I became landtracdeerhun. The ter got flushed. I was thinking of posting in the lost and found section but I didn't see one, LOL. I thank the person that replaced the ter.
  8. Had a great afternoon sit. A large amount of rainfree time. I had the liberty to see a rare flock of pheasants. I had to pinch myself, LOL.
  9. Looks like about 3/4 of an inch in the rain gauge. Afternoon lull in the activity. Started back in raining about 4:20 while I watched the rain drip off the stands roof. Goretex still works, LOL.
  10. Are they eating both tops and bulbs? Sounds like you have had a freeze in your area with sugar building. We have not had a killing frost as of yet. I would say spotty, yes. Acres of corn that came up late July, because of the drought is still green and growing in the same field with ripe, ready for picking ears. The oats have been eaten on my Radish oat mix but still have plenty of heads showing, unlike last year when they were gone. Radish have been touched very little to this point. Acreage the same. Deer have visited the clover, but many blossoms still showing, unlike last year. Bucks don't even seem to interested in doe at this point, here. Usually, we have chasing going on by now. Maybe this cooler spell will set wheels in motion here. That buck should be better tasting than the one you shot last season. Oh, and I'm not worried, just stating for informational purposes, LOL.
  11. I just got in from a 4 hour sit. Didn't start raining here till little after 8. Deer all moved predawn with the exception of 2 1/2 year old buck that came in behind me. He did zig zags in the open field, then looked back at me as like he was saying goodbye. More in likely caught my scent in the northeast breeze.
  12. I'll be out enjoying the wet weather hunting. Call it what you will; but I enjoy the taste of a rewarding shot.
  13. Actually, I have seen more deer injured in firearms season than bow. Maybe because of greater percentage of firearm hunters.
  14. My goodness; now I am confused. I would agree with the first two grow said. I have thousand of ash on the property. The bottom bark pic looks like ash bark to me. The bottom limbs are dying off most of our with ash die back disease. Not to be confused with Emerald Bore. A whitest green moss also grows on the bark of most trees.
  15. We use to do a special blend of baldwin apples and Keffer pears in a once used 40 gallon bourbon barrel purchased form Dietz's cider mill in the Rapids. They use to grind and press 100's of bushels for us this time of year. All raw natural cider. None of this heat crap, they call cider today. Add to the barrel a mixture of sugar and the right yeast after 1st fermenting process had ended; let it work again. Keep in the granary in the barn all winter. A nice go to drink.. Much smaller scale in todays world, but the outcome is the same, LOL.
  16. Family is what it's all about. So many miss the real point of what hunting can be. You two really capture those moments. . Congrats to both of you and many, many more to come.
  17. I 'm happy and enjoy getting out for some of the most interesting sits. Rain or shine; warm or cold, I will be out. The most interesting time is coming and I thank God I am able to partake in it. Good luck to youall.
  18. I found a person frozen in the ice, in the worst possible condition.
  19. A summer furrow program will eliminate most weed growth without spraying. Plowing the soil in June, then working the soil when weed growth begins throughout the summer months. Plant in August. Save $.
  20. Witch grass and broom grass look similar. Broom grass is used by farmers for forage. The seed is very small and light and is difficult to separate out using sieves and air. It is sold in the seed you buy from these outfits.
  21. To funny! I'm not a Clinton or Trump supporter. Wish Mickey Mouse was running.
  22. To catch a video like this on a game camera must be rare. Thanks for posting!
