Last year, I finally said to myself. It's not hunting ,but it is still better than the grocery store so if I dont have any venison late season I may poke one. I never did do it , but this year has been pretty lean. We will see what happens if one comes out this last weekend .lol.

I often leave the house to go hunting while there is a doe or 2 in the yard eating apples under the apple trees or munching in my yard. I have been tempted but can't seem to shoot any of them there. Its foolish because I have shot them a couple hundred yds behind the house and that was different.I was hunting..lol

I always have a bit of sadness after killing a deer. Especially deer . Because I spend so much time watching them...I know better than to Anthropomorphize deer but sometimes it happens. This year I shot a 60# fawn(thought she was 100#.). .I shot her with my bow. A whole story that goes with it, but not too proud of the shot . I had to chase her down and finish her off . I felt terrible. Cute little thing, long eyelashes and all.;). But as sad as I feel at times I still love it . Weird eh? I feel worse for ending a fawns life for 30#s of venison when I could of waited a year and doubled that. Never feel so bad that I want to quit hunting though.

Legality of using gutless method on deer?
ncountry replied to Gobbler Chaser's topic in General Chit Chat
Wow. I think most everyone has it covered. But, I will pile on too. If you cannot utilize the front shoulders there are those that would.. Not bringing out the shoulders is just lazy. If you are to a point that you cannot get it out yourself then get some help. Maybe in return for some shoulder steaks and ground meat.. -
A friend of mine plants a turnip and rape mixture. He doesnt put his in until mid to late August. The dear absolutely love the tops. The root or bulb never matures and they don't seem to touch that until December.

Now that's a mzl. A beauty ! -
A few pics.. Mama and 3 cubs @ 20 yds. Unique rock formation near the river bottom. Anybody watch Lost? I assume it's an old spring cover in the middle of the woods. But maybe it's the smoke monster home.lol

Thanks guys for the recomendations. I ended up shooting a small fawn(seemed bigger at the time.lol) . Took her to Grizzlys. Mixed review. They assured me it would be done in 10 days, before we left. I showed up the morning we headed out and she wasn't done. They were very apologetic and 30-45 minutes later. She was cut up , and packaged. They gave me a significant discount for the troubles. I would give them a try again..

Do you guys spray down every time before going in
ncountry replied to luberhill's topic in Deer Hunting
I just play the wind and hunt from 25' -30' up when bow hunting. 30 years ago, I had a firewood business and cut and split wood all day. I was not near as knowledgeable of a hunter back then. I would put my saw down and grab my hoodie off the woodpile and go hunting. Pretty sure they liked that smell. I rarely got busted. Not sure if it was the gas, oil, sweat, or woodchips? Maybe the perfect ratio could get bottled..lol -

That's what I'm counting on! While this weather has been nice for getting tan in the stand. Not so much for deer movement... I way overdressed for this mornings hunt. The rain scared me into wearing base layer and rain gear. I am just starting to dry out from most likely sweat not rain.lol.. Apriximately 10326 geese, 421 ducks, 2 hunters ,1 fox, no deer so far. And I rarely see hunters here. -
Oops. Somehow I was in the middle of a text about grout with guy at work .. it was live from the stand ha.ha..

Does it have ? Quartz?

Any recommendations on a meat cutter near Letchworth? We dont need one yet, just thinking ahead. It does not look like deer hanging weather this week.

And sometimes, you just don't feel like walking way down to the bottom ..

I did enjoy mzl season more when we were limited to sidelocks. Don't get me wrong, when they changed the rules I had an encore with a scope the following year.. But I do miss the ol patch and ball. .. sometimes. They are fun.
-
I have at different times thought that I might want a sidelock again , just for fun.. If nothing else all my stories of pops and fizzes and. Etc. Are starting to get old. May be time to make some new memories .

What everyone has said so far is right on the money. All you can do is ask for a favour. Nicely. An attitude would really rub me the wrong way if I was your neighbor.

I really like your optimism.. But I'm worried. -
Like others have said, dont give up.. I have always been sucessful year after year(knocking on wood). But have sat, or walked many miles, without any sightings or success... Time in the woods is what it is about for me. Pay attention to where others are and use that to your advantage . hunt transition zone and corners on unfamiliar lands.
