Hang on by far are my favorites. Top manufacture I loved was loggy bayou. Top favorite stand was by api the baby grand.. Most of my stands are now 20 years old and have had straps and cables changed but I'm not replacing 30 stands at today's prices.. I recommend only buying aluminum and the largest platform with corners at back of tree.. And take them down every year!!

Why would you not.move if you are seeing them 100 yards away. . photos in July are fairly useless once buck get hard horn the patterns change and bachelor groups break up.. Food sources and deer nutritional needs change.. Pick a tree within a 18 yard circle of a spot that you figure your shot will be. Wind direction. Tells you the tree your stand should be in.. Its better to be in a spot to get a deer that you might see rather then see deer that you only might get....

State land and either side of find an island in the swamp.it.only.has to be 2 or 3 inches higher than water and deer will use it especially if it has brush on it

Recovery rate with your bow (poll, but names not public)
G-Man replied to Core's topic in Bow Hunting
Well it's a weighted question.. Deer I got and lost that I thought would Die.. Or does it include a grazing shot that I knew deer was fine..???? I also didn't. Find one but killed it the next year with a 27 in 2013 shaft with broadhead still on it from the year before.. Does that count as recovered if I killed it following year? ( was a spike 1st year. I shot it and was a screwed up 4 pt when I killed it second year..) -
Do You Support Crossbow Full Inclusion into the NY Archery Season?
G-Man replied to tughillmcd's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Here is the problem with the fear it will lead to muzzelloader included in.. It will happen with out crossbow a lot faster than with..Dec want deer take..if.:-! Boy hunters up the take there is no reason for muzzleloader.. That is the truth of it..if not included you will see a special flintlock/ primitive season during archery -
You can create pinchpoints by felling trees . planting and a myriad of other methods.. I manipulate my habitat immensely.. It allows my camp to consisitanly take 18 to 21 Deer a year ( usually 10 doe or so rest buck) it's not really hard and you can Do a few acres at a time.. Over years.. Giving you browse and cover and food in different stages.. Selective logging for wildlife also works wonders.. My longest shot in much of my woods is 70 yards or less..

https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov this is best site I have found.. You can order prints but I have done screenshots and printed the. On normal paper and taped them together to make a large detailed map.. Larger than any print.. Current and past photos will show you fields grown up and logged areas as well as farmfield and crop rotation.. Some of the fall and spring ones you can see the deer trails through field and old fencelines thru woods

Do You Support Crossbow Full Inclusion into the NY Archery Season?
G-Man replied to tughillmcd's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Yes full inclusion.. but I would.like to see the bow class mandatory.. Actually. I would.like to see an anatomy test and blood trailing test in bow course as well.. I know quite a few who bought a crossbow and have it up already when they missed deer shooting at them at gun ranges.. Archery course is much better at teaching range limitations. And honestly I believe bow hunting and learning how to get game.close enough makes you a better gun hunter -
Well a specfic deer is hard to find to begin with but you can do it.. First I put my cams in funnnels and feed areas that have easy access to check.. You don't want to be bumping deer checking cameras. In thickets and bedding areas that said I run 23 cameras sometime 3 on same tree differnt directions. I also run video after it takes a pic for 30 sec. This does a few things the video can show deer that are following the leader of you will . I have one pic of a button and a small 4pt. But the 30 second vid shows another 12 different buck crossing after the photo was taken( this was a ravine crossing early Sept ) a nice big bachelor group. It also show direction of movement and I keep track of weather and prevaling wind that day so I can match up photos with wind and temp and weather conditions. Of you have a buck consistently at earl night or early morning and its moving same direction you can move camera up or down the trail to try and catch it in daylight. A good arial photot will help you trace trails. To thick areas that are bedding..and find feed areas. This may seem overwhelming but done over a period of years you will find the best spots for your stands.. Then when you kill a good buck off that stand you know the next year one will take it's place.. As long as good source and bedding remain the same...logging crop rotation all play a part in what trail deer will use.. I also pull all my cams by end of October as I dont want To scent up area by checking and to many tresspassers cams tend to dissappear..

I hate ladder stands!! I don't care if they are doubles and high.. I.like my back against a tree and no rails..I'll do a hang on every time over a ladder..

He may not be skipping but simple walks a path parallel to the one your cam is on.. Many time I've simple turned the camera 90 Or 180 degrees and picked up the monster that you would think you only got 1 pic of and never came back..deer will avoid a cam and simple learn to walk behind it .or they simple are on another trail 20 to 50 yards parallel to it depending on wind direction.. Don't fall into the he comes this way on this trail.. I had a spike that one day would walk in front of the stand and the next day behind it. I watched him all week every morning same time 730 am.. My friend never killed a deer with bow so I told him hunt that stand he will come thrugh at 730 from the left behind the stand tomorrow and in front the next day.. He killed him the next morning at 725 in front of the stand

You need to shoot it.do not try and let it down or dry fire it you and crossbow will be severely hurt. A practice tip and a block or rubber tip or special bolt tip are only options
-
A couple of days with a compound is all th as nessary to kill out to 20 yards once your.pins and peep. are set they don't change. Its not hard with today's let off and compounds.. Now traditional. Or finger shooting.. Is another story. Really makes you wonder why crossbows are scorned as to easy..

Lyndon.. Been gettig worse every year..They just keep coming...
-
You can come kill one ..they are becoming a real nuisances.. It's a running joke they follow me from stand to stand.. Nothing like going to your stand in the dark and finding a heaping pile of near shot..
-
They ruined my hot tub . tore a hole in The barn wall to get in .ripped down bird feeders. Chewed up and carried off 3 d targets..including a block i got so they wouldn't get confused thinking it was an animal. Not to mention carring off my Webber grill and breaking the burners.( near damage isn't covered) I'd much rather see them as an occasional visitor in my area.. Usless things.. Can't open window on ground floor or porch as the Damn bastereds will get in the house.. Kill every one you see imo Could care less about deer population they are as thick as fleas anyway.
-
Shoot it or gut shoot it ..worthless destructive creatures...they keep multiplying..
-
Yep the flying pull back or having to horse. The bow back.. You should be able to keep your bow perfectly in line with your target completely through the draw.. No having to bring the sights down into it or up l into it
-
Just as a point .. Bows are most efficient at max draw weight.. Keep that in mind when buying a bow .the well it goes to 80 lbs is not good if You shoot 55.. A bow that maxes at 55 or 60 Will shoot much more efficiently than one turned down from 80
-
52lbs let's me do a nice smooth push pull draw... Using that method it's almost impossible to be picked up on by game while drawing.. I see way to many people shooting to much weight and they can't draw their bow properly.. I've also seen many friends and family with shoulder problems that were shooting to much weight.. They all have reduced their poundage now.. With proper limbs and weight your bow is just as efficient as a higher weight draw with out the other problems that come with excessive poundage
