i would think these restrictions will decrease hunter safety as the hunter now is counting points and bybthebtime he sees its big and its about gone ..hurried unethical shots will follow because it might get away. Vs now when the 1st good shot presents itself people take it ... Big horns make people act funny..

Only dumb question is one not asked ....

Scopes and red dots work like this if your bullet hit high and right.. You need to move down and left.. Open sights and bow sight work the opposite.. -
Think on this .. The only person who can ask for a restriction is one that has never shot a buck below that size restriction.. To take experiences away from others that your self has enjoyed and learned from is just greed.. Don't say well kids are exempt..what if your spouse decided to take up hunting. Not a kid but You want to see them become hooked but they do not see a legal deer and when/if they do is is a large one and they miss and give up hunting.. My sister in law got her 1st deer ever a 6pt that would not be legal in this area under current proposal. She could not of shot it as she's mid 40's Just starting hunting.. Her kids daughter specifically would not be impressed with her and want to grow up and be like mom a hunter..

The thing is it seems the western states where people pay big bucks to hunt post a lot o bucks to the book.. While I know of many in nys that would make it yet the owners don't want them as properties are smaller .. I have friends that trace West for several year only to shoot the same size bucks we have here in ny. 130 to 150 in on average.. The guides take pic of them and make them look larger and post gross scores... I'm glad nys has the rep of worse state to hunt in..its a hidden gem that refuses to show itself off

This 4 point not legal in the NY antler restricted zones.

Nys has enough hunters in areas to higrade a herd quick.. Monster 6 and 4 pts on the horizon... -
I would bet mid 120s gross high teens net

Oh wait a while..I remember a bow over 50% let off would disqualify to..then it was 65% Now if over that they add an* It's always been based on a hunters honesty..I have a friend that turned down them after a taxidermis has his rack measured.. He said no my. Bow has too high a let off.. No one would ever know if it was or wasn't.. I have several buck that would make nys book and 1 that would make p&y. None are officially entered but they have been measured. ( I do that for myself to check my measuring. Abilities) only contest I have is between myself and that game I persue.

I find landscaping fabric is a great blind material.. Keeps wind and water out but lest you hear through it..last about 3 years in the Sun but a fifty foot roll is cheap enough to replace.. Will last longer as a liner or if other matrial coves it

Yes several buck and doe this is my largest

There are hanging stands that have large platforms 32x38 . I feel safe in them with a shoulder against a tree than standing up away from a tree in a typical ladder. Biggest problem I have with ladder are the set hights 12 16 20.. Many o F my sets fall between these heights and they wouldn't be possible with a ladder
-
Hangons by far the most versatile. I'd rather be in the right tree to kill a deer. The the right tree for a ladder or climber that only let's me see a deer. Ladders are set nights which means cutting excessive limbs and perhaps being a bit to high or two low.. They generally require more than one person to set up and they can be difficult to check every year because they are so hard to put up they are left out all year.. Climbers are pretty much useless where I hunt.as orchard do not have straight trunked trees to climb or they are to limby .. Again need to be in the right tree to kill a deer not just see them... Hangons well I can put in any tree at any height in any direction( hanging over water, or over a steep hillside) with clumping ladders they are very secure but I can climb around limbs leving me additional cover.. By far the easiest to use and set up.. Easily removed and stored.. Straps checked and replaced . I have several that are now almost 30 years old and are in great shape due to removal and storage at end of season.

Always find it amazing when I drive around the block(7 miles x 2 miles) and can count well over 200 deer in just the fields I can see from the road. Then hear the seasonal hunters complain there are no deer .. Amazing how all those deer dissappear during season.. Makes one wonder about deer numbers and estimates and estimates take and estimates buck ages.. How can anything actually be done with the very few Dec employees we have..really wish the right to hunt and fish was added to the state constitution and give power to regulate to a game comission.. We could really have a well managed wildlife resource.

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
G-Man replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
As for older bucks having more meat.. Farm raised cattle are young They still have a lot of growing to do.. Why don't we let them get old and mature before slaughter? Because the weight they add is disproportionat to food to needed to add weight at year 2 or 3.. Deer are the same most yearlings will top 100 to 115lbs but as a 2.4 will only weigh 125 to 135.. They eat and eat for another whole year but do not double in weight.. So from a perspective of leaving more deer to age (and eat another years worth of good and browse) mother nature responds with decreasing birth rates as food isn't available for young new recruits.. While in populations where females are dominate more males are born..and in. Male dominated populations more females are produced.. So Yes biologically there is a reason to let more bucks live.. To in fact decrease the population in the end.. Of left to natural means.. Fortunately we create an environment where more bucks are born so more hunters have a chance to harvest them.. As 1.5 year olds are booted by the females and tend to wander onto properties and in front of guns of thankful hunters who only have a buck tag.. -

Simple solution make it on all state lands.. I pay a huge amount of taxes and i do eat a lot of venison.. Its not all from big bucks.. I know all the game belongs to the state.. But the land is mine.. Perhaps I can charge the state for harboring and raising its animals on my property. Under their law.. I have to wait years to kill animal eating/ rubbing my trees preventing reforestation.. And it will become more intense as older deer compete for territory.. Again not needed except for hunter enjoyment... -
I have grafted fruit trees but nothing the size of 3 inches.. 3/4 to 1 inch is the biggest I've done.. I use pruning tape and grafting wax to hold graft on and together.. I dont know how you would support a 3 in thick graft.....

So here is the question .. How do you come up with age of bucks taken in NY? They do not mandatory check deer. They have no question asking you to age the buck. Its a call in number of points a side.. But they can state 60% year-long buck on a mandatory tag report that only has less than 60% reporting... So now we will base a new hunting law on those guesses.. This from people that complain that the Dec can't regulate for tags and there are no deer( but we will use same numbers to push an adjenda for older bucks) waste of time and not needed. -

Nice article but it was 99% about overpopulated does .. Not mature bucks..fact is want more bucks to breed doe during 1st rut you have 2 choices 1.. Shoot more does bring numbers down closer to 1 x1 ratio.. 2. Close season during the rut..as stated 45% of all buck killed that week... We hunt no other animal during its prime breeding time..( We get to hunt Turkey date prime breeding in april) ( and every year I hear people scream to allow an early opening for Turkey as they gobble great in april) Either of these two options or both.will have a much bigger impact than ars. -
I know to many cops and judges to get.picked most.of the time ..federal grand is different you all get asked questions all together. I got out of that due to watching a woody harrelson interview a few nights before.. Remembered enough to recite why marijuana should be legal.and got myself booted.. Did I mention trial was supose to start opening day of deer season that year(monday)....phew haven't been called since...

Just look at buck hunting as. The movie logan's run.. Everyone dies young.. One old guy lives outside the box.. -
I've had a friend kill a bird out of a flock in the spring and then I kill another a short time later when they try to 3rd group.. Very effective in early season when they are still grouped up

I found the same sight with screw sold for 275 on eBay 2 years ago.. This gun had all 3 on it I took scope mount off to see how bad damage was to receiver.. The tang sight was loose but fits perfectly def made for that gun aftermarket by Lyman
