Looking for Reputable Logger-Allegany County
G-Man replied to Uncle Nicky's topic in Non Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
are you looking for a logger or forester... i have used both, if your not around and do not know your trees i recomend a forester. yes they take a percentage but also get you the best price. as well as take a bond on fixing roads and ruts... let me know which you prefer and i can send you contact numbers... most loggers look for timber value unless your the one marking your trees and you sell them as marked, where a forester will work with you for your personal goals, habitat, wildlife food, or timber value.or a combination of the three.. prices are up on many species and it is a good time to sell -
had a friend find a big 8pt on a drive during muzzleloader, went back with him cut the head off and called the neighbors to see if they lost a nice buck against what sone guys i was hunting with said i should do(i have no interest in somone elses kill).. turned out to have been shot 2 weeks earlier by his mother in law(his neighbor). and they lost it (blood trail) maybe 150 yards from where it was found..(was a swamp) gave the head to her and a 10x12 pic from one of my trail cams. was like an early christmas for her. and it always helps to keep up neighborly relations!

i doubt you'll get it back but i hope she really did need it....

wierd

if you bought the super sportsman then you were buying muzzleloader tag, if you dont want an anterless tag for bow then dont buy it now
-
if you buy a crossbow/muzzloader tag you get 1 either sex tag, thats it... the only way to get an anterless only tag is to buy bow and crossbow/muzzloader tag (the crossbow/muzzelloader tage is the same thing (the legislaters think a crossbow is a muzzleloader.) The reason to buy both if you have both courses/certificates, is to get a anterless tag valid state wide during early and late season. you pay 10.00 for the chance a a doe tag valid for regular season. why wouldnt you pay 18.00 for a guarenteed tag valid early and late season??
-
for 18$ Its a guaranteed doe tag for bow...why wouldn't you? Been doing it for years... besides your reg season buck tag becomes an either sex for late season.more reason to hold out with bow for a good one..

A lot of guys drop a pin on their phone GPS and can naviage that way to the stand. I know my woods very well and just walk there in the dark
-
Its the way a lot of fall birds are shot at.. if you miss break them up and go get a gun or call em back with the bow... we've gotten birds in the fall by one guy shooting one from a stand with bow breaking them up and getting everyone out bow/gun when they regroup..

my light traveling stands are old (20 years old) loggy bayou hang on light,( might find one used) but the alfa 2 by lone wolf would be a good replacement. a set of aluminum rapid rails makes up the rest.. i have 5 sections and can get to 20 ft high if need be.. the advantage od a sectional system is the ability to hang around limbs and rotate around tree as well as ability to use less sections if needed (i hunt a very twisted apple tree and a climber or straight stic would be impossible.) between a new aluminum stand (around 270.00 and a good set of sticks 130.00.. the 400 dollar price tag puts it below most good climbers with whe weigt about the same 20 lbs..
-
some of the best hunting is 100 yards fro my house everyone walks by in an effort to get deep in the woods.. like doc said its more important to be away from hunters than to be far off a road..
-
i am surprised how many of you have the perfect tree to climb with a climber.. as fo the sticks. 3 sections of rapid rails and a good aluminum stand go up in umder 5 minutes. as for lanes i have my tree picked out and trimmed before season. carry in and 5 min in the stand. no sweating climbing the tree or clanking or bark noised... climbers are nice if you have that nice straight tree and you climb to ecact hight everytime so your in your trimmed out lane. but i dont want to be in an open hardwoods my stands are in thick areas, apple orchards, edge of a field with trees with lots of limbs for cover and crooked trunks.. to find a tree suitable for a climber i'd have to be 100 yards from where i want to be.. and thats 100 yards to far away for a bow shot for me... imo a good set of sticks/rails will out preform a climber in 90 % of stand locations...

they cross there already.. and down the creek 100 yards.

I don't care if I get a big one or not, rather see the guys and girl I hunt with get them.. quite a few around this year... I hunt close to my house... I'm known as the lazy hunter...but always seem to do all the work!

I can get any deer taken out by tractor from the east end of the property, this is to avoid walking thru the entire property to hunt the east end.. its 1.5 miles long...
