  1. peeing in them works, by far the best attractant is a non-bloody fresh tarsal off a deer from 2 miles or more from your property. (i always look for fresh road kill and just take the tarsal) freeze 1 and use other for 2-5 days. doesnt matter if its a buck or doe(buck is better).. its a "new deer" and everything will come to see who it is. i have had deer bed down wind of it for hours waiting for the intruder to return. try exchanging them with your buddies if they hunt a different area than you. just remove and bag them prior to gutting so they dont get bloody. freeze or keep in fridge for immeadiate use.
  2. you must have the biggest idiot attractor near your property (actually you must just be the right distance city folks are willing to drive to hunt)... i sympathise with you when lancaster ,ny was being first developed in the 80's same problems there, now its all subdivisions and mostly/non huntable area.. so glad i got out when i did
  3. the only videos that ever taught anything with no 1/2 plugs for products were the whitetail visions, and quest videos. everything else is just entertainment.
  4. mid day..10-3 has been good as we had a full moon, as it wanes, mornings and evenings will be more productive
  5. i have heard of youth filling more than 1 tag..but its one deer of either sex...as far as i can see, regardless of doe tag, dmap, tag.. they give the option to tag your deer with a doe rather than your buck tag is all
  6. In my opinion, Asat, skyline, and predator are by far the best patterns for ny... maples, beech , hickory are grey barked trees..realtree and mossy oak are just cluttered brown patterns.. look good to the hunter but blob to the deer and other game.
  7. very do able if you not in some land group management that restricts you. dont try and hide it leave in visable area (lock your hitch) and dont put chain up on driveway (says i'm not here) have a neighbor check on it from time to time, and drive in and out leaving tracks in snow..and boot prints around.
  8. permission their licence, tresspass fee, nys licence. hope another indian doesnt shoot you(kidding) prolly shake down by indian gang... and vandelised vehicle upon your return....
  9. my camp specifically targets does with fawns, especiallly if they have twin button bucks. doe rule the herd, and chase the young bucks away. if shes not there to chase them away they stay as 1.5 year olds because they only know mom's old home range.even when they expand their range part of it always includes their mothers home range and many come back as 2.5 year olds. with out mom chasing them away as 1.5 year olds we have 1st reduced the doe to buck ratio, and 2nd our buck sightings have increased by 50%..third we can follow the same buck for 2 years or more and thus know the age of the targeted buck well before you see it in the field by use of trail cams. fawns are weened by this time of year, and survive quite well with out their mothers.
  10. Never like ladder for the reason they are accessable to any one, a good hang on with a rail climbing system, or screw in steps. remove bottom section or sections and bottom 4-5 steps takes it out of harms way in tresspassed areas. after awhile the seem to give up and move on.
  11. any deer with a bow is a trophy!! congrats!
  12. poor racked 3.5year old if it was by me,
  13. maverick barrels (made by mossberg) are the same and can usually be had for cheaper
  14. 150 ,is all you really need 180 is a big heavy bullet made for bigger game...elk for example. but it will still kill a deer...lol just kicks a bit more...
  15. G-Man

    Good hit?

1/4 to or slight 1/4 to is just a bad shot angle... prolly 1 lunged her..may live.. may go 300 - 400 yards if pushed... i do not take any 1/4 to angle shots anymore... long hours waiting and long difficult track...
  16. bears have approximatly a 10sq mile range... 1 pic does not a hunt make.. if you get another pic same spot same time say every 2 weeks, you have part of a pattern... nys bear hunting is 90% oppurtunistic. unless you have a bear coming into an apple orchard, cornfield to eat everyday. your chance of getting one just waiting on a trail/sitting in an area is very low. that being said you now know the is bear in the are and dont undergun, equip yourself just in case the oppertunity is presented you want to be ready.
  17. baiting and using a 55 gallon drum is easy to judge bear by.. that 175 in pic is just that looking at barrel thats why they use bait to let you judge a bear so you can see it from many angles and jugde size to a know object.. tracks are good indicators as well... for nys..its average to above average..(200 lbs or so for mose bears according to dec harvest reports) imo if you see a bear in nys take it you may not see another for years in legal shooting hours depending on where you hunt.
  18. nice bear, def worth taking. short legs, big belly, (a head shot is always nice (small ears are a dead give away of a good bear..) front shoulders almost same size as rear. its a better than average bear and bigger than most i've seen out of quebec. if you know the diameter of a tree in a pic it will help you a lot.
  19. amazing to think that in 1525 the minimum distance set by king henry for practice with a long bow was 220 yards... tell that to a crossbow user... its why the english isles held back and won many battles against its enemys..they had better range and more accuracy than the crossbows being used... that being said, archers skeletons are identifyable by enlarged bone structure of their left arms and bone spurs in the left wrist, from mandated practice.. everage draw weight of a bow 105lbs...with bow being 6 ft long.
  20. just to add..my personal feeling : attaching any number to a rack is the worse thing in modern hunting times... if your happy with it take it. way to much time worrying about what a rack will score. if its in the top 10% size wise in your area its a trophy.
  21. i had a problem with road hunters, called the dec and they put up a robo deer...got 2 different vehicles, the rest just dissapeard... i participate fully with dec in the fisher program and turkey trapping/tagging when that was going on...seems the sight of dec in area scares people away... word spreds fast... contact them and use them complaining about it on a forum doesnt do much to stop...and call early...in season they are very busy but before their presesnce my be a deterant if they are seen in july august and beginning of sept.
