  1. not a big fan of ir's is it a new or reconditioned? new you did ok.. recon not really . waiting to get a new e3 and try it
  2. http://urbandeercomplex.com/news/if-you-are-against-hunting-you-are-against-conservation/
  3. you can gut it but do a small as possible incision.. a full mount is skun from top of back down and its another hole the taxidermist has to sew up.adds to price. even for a rug if you have a small gutting incision the rug will turn out better than if you have a crooked gut hole... make sure you wear gloves (arm legnth if you can get them as bear are full of parasites...... my bear was full of worm..so many the guts moved by themselves
  4. your late for that mix, a winter wheat,or rye with clover is about all that has time to grow and be successful.
  5. my prep has been done since august... i let all my neighbors do their last minute prep and push everything on to my property, i get a kick out of seeing atv running around ,hanging stands ,cutting shooting lanes, chimneys fired up, chainsaw and log splitters running. 2 weeks and closer to season... lol
  6. Full mount with rock and base 2500.00 for my bear. 408 lbs
  7. around 275-325 .. hard to tell in pic... i really hate ir cams, quality just ist there yet with them. and nothing in comparison for size in pic. (always nice to have a tree in pic you know diameter of)
  8. and the winner is terry pegula!! now just to be approved at owners meetings in october 7-10. the bills stay in buffalo!!
  9. yep trap is a trap, took my course over 20 years ago. and still buy a licence from time to time to keep one current on file.. just dont have time to run a trap line like i should, so i let a friend use my traps and trap my property.
  10. it took 2-3 years for tresspassers to get the idea that i now owned the property that was 22 years ago..havent really had a problem since, except with road hunters, a call to dec with 3-4 vehicle descriptions led to a decoy set up and a few guys caught, that has dropped off considerably as well now. your biggest problem is going to be that powerline and guys just passing through to get to where they hunt.. and a food plot on the powerline is a def no no...
  11. i would be careful of properbullet selection, i have seen pistol bullets come apart and leave no exit wound. stay away from hollowpoints unless bonded.
  12. 45-70 5 shot revolver.. or go with my favorite an in line 50 cal muzzleloading pistol. (cva makes a great one)
  13. i still think the best were whitetail visions, and quest. hunting video from the late 80's early 90's... great educational videos without the fad gimmics/sponsers and over the top tecnology.
  14. it is your responibility to know who owns the property, a 5 ft trangression in the middle of the woods is possible, but if a line is properly posted it is far less likely. My father always told me if you dont own it someone else does!! as for most locals hunting it, there are a few things you can do to minimize it. 1. dont put a chain or cable up at end of the driveway!! nothing says i'm not here than a chain or cable. 2. get a trusted friend/neighbor to make tracks in and out of driveway, or swing in at various times. 3. get a winter vehicle and park it in the drive, 4. put a light in the building camper on a timer. 5 put some time in at the place not just a weekend,a day here or there during the week if possible. my neighbors thought i lived at my camp and worked odd shifts as i would drive the hour and 30 min middle of the week and pop in. when i finially move there permanant the were surprised i didnt already live there. 6. get a mailbox and send mail there(i just use to fill out on line surveys and use camp address , the junk mail flowed)... Mail carriers notice a lot and a place with no mail delivery is always seasonal.... these few simple things really mess up a local that has your place scouted out.
  15. you dont need to blow foot off just get a broken wrist bone and infection sets in, a bear trap is a big thing and very heavy, a no 2 or 3 double coil wouldnt break bone it would be lucky to hold a toe.. still say gun or vehicle hit.
  16. glad your ok and sounds like repairs are possible. hoping for a speedy recovery/repair for you!
  17. well due to idiots, its a slow education process to allow rifles for hunting because they are so deadly at long ranges and people will be shot don't you know.... so its been a mulit year expansion after initially allowing them in the state...patience is a virtue.
  18. looks good i did the same for a while and when it ripped from uv exposeure i just built a landscape fabric wood framed box on top...

    Timid or bold?

i'll be hunting summer patterns, it pays to keep an eye on the bachlore group the buck you want is with..it may keep a young dumb one around for the first few weeks now we open so early.
  20. not sure if they allow it but i've seen more bear while hunting turkey in bear spring mountain in early oct than any place else besides non hunting parks
  21. i agree, i honestly believe everyone has a big one around their camp (even in heavy hunted areas) they know where to hide and avoid humans far better than we know how to find them. How many times have you heard a new hunter killing a monster by stumbling into one in the middle of a field or that patch of timber you can see thru that everyone walks by??? deer pattern us much better than we pattern them....
  22. cool i hope it repeats itself for you in october.
  23. always get my landowners..never get a second as they are unavailable where i hunt
