31 years, older brothers hunted with my dad so i wanted to when i could. hit 12 and just tagged along..now much lighter in the pocketbook and more obsessed with habitat improvement than hunting. taken a lot of game and the thrill has gone out of it for me personally, but i love getting new people into the sport.

looks good but why on the front vs the back of atv?

For an early fall plot , oats, or if you want it to over winter rye or wheat. Seed that doesn't sprout will be pick by Turkey and birds.. just did it over a sweet corn field that drowned out.

looks like autumn olive..invasive non-native.. but provides food for game.

Yes I have several doe with triplets. Great mast year last fall, though the winter was cold the deer had a lot of fat reserves and had plenty to eat, snow cover never got too bad by me, so food was always in reach.

You'll still need to get soil seed contact.. spraying roundup , and raking after ttwo week will help a lots

Homemade Towable Food Plot Seed Roller

good idea, but sunlight really makes the plastic in barrels brittle after a time. you'll hit a rock and it will crack like an egg. but you should get a few years out of it.- 18 replies

dec has been pulling and cuttting it in wny for years, my friend has doen it as summer help for last 3. must be a slow news day and needed to put some fear in the general populace...

grow a beard, camo is truly unnessary..its lack of movement. i watch my neighbor hunt deer and turkey in blujeans and a plaid coat and be very sucessful, and he has taken some bucks of a lifetime and huge gobblers. lack of movement is the key.

I think the population originally spread as landfills and garbage dumps shut down..the easy food that concentrated them is gone,Now bears can have up to Five cubs. Mom keeps them around for.two years. The take no bear in a group law protected them. Now if these five have cubs say even two apiece for 3of the original 5 were sows. That's 13 new bear in 4 Years. I see the bear in a group has been dropped in new regs. i know i am sick of them, my 3-d targets have been chewed up, barn broke into, hotub damaged, bird feeders destroyed or carried off, and this spring an adult doe crossed the road on a full run with a good size bear right on her a$$. DEER are made for a quick sprint, bear can run for miles.. not sure what happened to her but i would say the outcome wasnt good. I hope they knock the population back a bit, as I now have Four different bear on camera on just my property.

see if you can find a whittail visions video entitled tricking whitetail bucks. covers all this and more. its from about 1990 when videos actually instructed verses entertained. as for being to cautious, you cant get them if you dont try..its like waiting for the perfect shot..everone tells you they do, but you do a lot better if you take the best shot when given, than wait for the perfect shot.

do it.. do its quickly.. a deer lets a farmer do his/her buisness but if the said farmer trys to sneak up on deer it will bolt... being sneaky while raking/mowing is unwise...do your job and get out...deer themselves will start using that trail. you can even filter more deer past your stand if you cut a trail into that clear cut from your stand.. it will be used by all game.

i still have my 12 " tall action figures and an original jeep... does that count?

i use my cams for my population and know what i have but we are almost 100% more bucks per sq mile than their harvest data.. i just cant figure out how they get their numbers.......

10 Years ago..lucky if you saw one..now get to see quite a few and trail ccan photos that were once a year are now every two weeks.. the population has really grown fast...to fast..becoming a nusence by me now.

Having read the dec managagement plan , i cannot find the formula they use based on bowhunter sighting logs and buck take per square mile to come up with their number of deer per square mile... I understand habitat is a big influence on what land can hold, but i am really trying to get an understanding of their numbers that determine sex ratios and thus doe tags issued. Any one out there know of the formula or is it just a S.W.A.G??

I have a friend who uses a .44mag carbine for deer with "battle peep". i would say 100 yards is about max for the gun. Proper placement of shot may extend that 50 yards or so.but how many times do you get a perfect shot while hunting? I would be worried on penetration on a heavy quartering shot as i have seen his kills for the last 10 years and that is the only issue i have seen with it. other than that its a good short distance gun 100 yard or so. 75yards unless well experianced with it would be better imo.

I had a buck on camera for 3 years i knew this buck very well, a friend shot him the last day of muzzleloader season. He took the ten to the taxidermist who looked at the teeth and told him it was 2.5 ... i saw him out and he told me that i said nope 3.5 went home printed out 3 years of photos of this 10 pt.. 1.5,2.5 and 3.5.. said that is your buck he agreed it was. took pics to taxidermist who backstepped and had to give in the buck was 3 although the teeth say it two.. unless your trained/certified. on jaws from know deer ages from the area the the game was taken in.. tooth aging is a guess... unless you put it under a microscope. aging on the hoof is the same ..i can tell mature 3.5 or less, anything over 3.5 is a guess unless i have years of photos of the buck.

yes it is easy to report but its not done... so their guess is just that a guess, same as anyone elses.. were there more deer , when i started hunting yes...4 people to a dmp as well. then it dropped to 2 by early 1990's now 1... they know the population is to big in most areas...
