Youth Hunt, don't know if anyone else had this

My brother's grandson shot a doe. They dressed it and started dragging when his grandson heard a chopper.  It came over the top of the mountain on our property in a bee line and circled right over them as they dragged. They stopped and waved at teh chopper and kept dragging. The chopper stayed over them until they got back to the house and my brother expected either a trooper car or the chopper to land by the house. Nothing happened. Sounds like the new cell towers they put up around town triangulate on the shot and they were checking youth hunters to be sure no one was poaching.

Wow.....Isn't fuel expensive for such an operation?   Glad they were checking but there must have been a less costly...and disruptive way ...what about the other youth in the area trying to hunt I mean really...lol

Do you have a local airport?Call them and ask if they may have a little info on it.I am not sure if helicopters have the same rules as planes with landing,takeoffs and flight plans but its worth a shot.

I highly doubt cell towers are going to have shot detectors on them. With the limited DEC funds these days, I cant see them using a helicopter to check for poaching. Doesnt sound right to me.

10000% no way that the DEC is out in a helicopter triangulating shooting.

 

They barely have guys to walk around and check points and look for tags.

 

Our state is bankrupt.  No funding for something like that.

The only places I have heard of that are using them are cities. Rochester has a system, and I believe Bufflao and Syracuse do as well. I have not heard of any of the systems being setup in rural areas.

It wasn't DEC it was State Troopers, the guys that will enforce your Safe Act and set up the database for your ammo purchase background check that starts 1/1/14.

Don't need to be hunting or shooting a weapon to alert a chopper. Did it before just fishing. Chopper circled for a couple minutes and was on their way. The government was unlimited funds, when they want to.

Perhaps it was a news chopper trying to get some coverage for a story on the youth hunt. Or, if it's anything like down our way small planes and choppers are frequently on the search this this time of year it seems for pot plantations.

Ok the Troopers are out looking for pot plants,training whatever and they see someone dragging a deer.
