I know where there's a rusted old hulk from the 50's that has a farm plate on it. Same colors as the 'new' plate but in reverse use.  :

I say Nay. Only because they are the same colors used in the late 70's early 80's. If they were gonna change the plate colors at least do something new.

Another no vote here as well. I actually prefer the ones we have now with the white background. From what I hear, the new plates are optional along with a fee as well.

No. If we have to change Plates, they could have come up with a better design. New York is a beautiful state. Unfortunately, this is just another Patterson attempt of getting more money.

That is exactly right.  there was no reason to change the plates except to rob drivers of some cash.

They arent robbing anyone of anything. You dont have to get them, its optional unless you are getting new plates. Keep your old ones if you are worried about it.  :

Really?  I was told every driver in NY would have to get them when their registration was renewed.  I didn't know you had a choice.  I heard they charge $50 for them too, and you had to get them.

I think that was the original idea, but because of the uproar from NYers, the plan was dropped.  Why are they still issuing new plates then?  Now we will have two different types of valid plates on the road.

Plates look like cat scat! They could of done a much better job, must of had tons of yellow paint leftover from the old plates!lol

They must have gotten a lot of flack about it. I just checked the DMV site and you are correct WNY. The press release I saw said it would be mandatory and that seems to be backed up by the DMV site. The State cancelled the "mandatory" part....election year...lol

I heard if you want to keep your current plate number there was a charge.It was cheaper to get the new plate with a new number.I only heard this so I am not sure if it is true.

I knew because I just had to re-reg my car and I kept my plates. The new ones arent $50 either, its like $10 extra unless you want to keep the same tag number.

my conty clerk pattu ritchie was the one who started the uproar and got the state to drop the mandatory use. My daughter has them n her new vehicle.  I personally do not like them. However on my old 82 bike, I am thinking I will get the new one just because it will look more original as that was the design back then.  I see a conspircy here.  Ayone who opts to keep their plates they have now will probably have their plates stolen shortly after renweing their registration, so you will then have to get them, or you will be harrassed more by law enforcement if you keep the old ones.  It is nit mandtory, but in the end you will get them.  BTW, the conspiracy thing was a joke.

They look like big butterfly splatter coming at ya. Don't like 'em one bit. Retro- throwback stuff is in the past for a reason. It wore itself out.

Now if the NFL & NHL would catch on to that maybe the Bills would finally win a Super Bowl and the Sabres a cup.

my guess is, the plates are more visible from a distance....the white contrast may have been an issue.

Guess which plates I will have on my ATV ?

Thats a nay...as a kid I thought the plate were ugly...now they are worse ...just keep my old ones as long as possible
