Cusehunter...Do you mean that people up where you are approve of that being put on a website for anyone to see. I doubt it... But you did substantiate my statement about hunters who stereotype. So thanks for the verification.
and you validate the permeating theme of taking things too seriously. It was want as a light hearted joke. I played lacrosse upstate and have learned to take a job at LI when I can, as every person from there I've met can give em' back.

So why has this thread turned into condemnation of someone shooting a fawn? I have no bone to pick with anyone shooting one. I've done it myself and won't be apologizing to anyone for it. Like some of you have so much more ethics for letting them walk this year, so you have bigger back straps to put in your freezer when you gun them down next year? Yeah sure.

There are so many deer to shoot that there's no reason to shoot a fawn. They're dumb, they're innocent. Let them live a little. Give them a chance at least. Is it worth it to butcher for such a small amount of meat?

there are no reasons to shoot a fawn none. fawns being harvested by a hunter indicates to me that that hunter has really no skills at deer hunting. or just has the mindset of its brown its down. and the picture that started this topic is of very poor taste. and i'll say it again i'm glad I was taught the ethics and respect I have for the woods and who I choose to hunt with by my father in law.

Yes they have a season on LI that goes on forever because there are so many deer that they need killed to control the population. Its not always about what you like and dont like Belo, and by the way I do remember you stating that you have killed fawns in the past so you really can't say much.

This is about the caption not the size of the deer legally killed.

People who say there is no reason to shoot a fawn are uneducated about deer, deer biology, and what current management practices have laid out given the current science.

There are reasons and scenarios where shooting a fawn is biologically and management-wise. Period.

As for the pic/comment - it's twisted, but I also understand how "jokes" can be within circles of friends/hunters and sometimes the jokes can take on a life of their own. I am against the grain on most in that I'm not overly agitated or disgusted by a hunter posing with blood or less than mag quality photography skills. My favorite pic has been and always will be the buck in the back of the truck, and I have said that here before a time or two. Preserving the memory to me isn't always about making sure the tongue is tucked in and the blood carefully wiped clean off the snout. When I walked up on it, it wasn't wearing a tuxedo. It had a hole in it and was bleeding. Posting them, case by case basis, I guess, and must be taken into context with the intended audience and the non-intended audience. But, in the end, if a pic I deem OK is not by others, then that is fine.

Haha, coming from another Long Islander I see.  Yup, we should leave it up to you guys to control the deer population on the Island instead of the sharpshooters. LOL  With attitudes like yours there will be more deer than people on the Island pretty soon.

I've had a mother deer come in with fawns, and was then busted by the fawns before the mama, so they are not all as dumb as you think.  Since when did hunters have to leave the dumb ones alone, and only shoot the smart ones??  Do you give them IQ tests before you make your decision on what deer to put down?

Cusehuter.. I apologize, I WAS too sensitive, and as I look at it now, I should have seen the humor at the end of it..

.I think I've been inside too long, but that's no excuse. I get angry when hunters turn on hunters and that's what I did.

I should practice what I preach...I hate being a hypocrite, but I was.

i never stated that. I have shot one bb when i was 18 as a mistake and it was a learning experience.

And if LI has such a deer problem, shoot the breeder doe. They eat more and multiply. If its so bad as they claim there must be a few other doe hanging with that fawn...

If it's to the point snipers are being brought in...there shouldn't be ANY animal in that herd safe from a ground check. At that point management of the resource becomes more valuable than your measuring stick.

1. you made a bold statement and gave no information to support it.

2. When you walked up on it is no different than when you were gutting it. No hunter here is arguing what we go through in the process of harvesting and recovering the animal. We're talking about what you decide needs to be posted for all the world to see. I have plenty of "dead deer laying on the ground" and entrance and exit wound pics. I keep them formyself and try not to post those I think aren't tateful or have no meaning.

I don't need to support it - it's a well documented scenario in deer management. Anyone who plants plots and wants to age deer through the classes ought to know that by now.

The best part is, NY is probably one of the prime candidates for areas with scenarios where shooting a fawn is the biologically and management-wise thing to do including Wayne county of all places.

Instead of me just giving you the info, I encourage you to use your google-fu and research it and become enlightened about such a topic. I think if you research it and spend a few minutes doing so, you are more likely to understand it.

As to two: you must have missed my last sentence in there. If I post it and others don't like it - sorry. But it's still posted. Everyone has a difference tolerance/interpretation of the topic of allowable or good taste photos. Just because you have a different one doesn't mean it is not tasteful or has no meaning. - all it means it that it is your interpretation. Sort of like opinion.

Shooting a fawn is terrible.

But a 1.5 or 2.5 is OK - the equivalent of a 8 yo kid and a 13 yo teen?

You guys are funny sometimes.

So lamb and a 30 lb piglet for the grill are off limits too?

comparing animals to human and we're funny? 13 yo teen vs 28 year old mom?

farm raised to wild? that's apples to apples too right?

I think he's alluding to both being table fare...wild game and farm raised. In that sense, yes. apples to apples.

Huh? You never stated that and then you state it. Makes perfect sense.

you made it sound like i have shot multiple fawns. I pointed out that I shot one. When I was young. And learned from it. There is a HUGE difference between knowingly pulling the trigger and being inexperienced.

I'll leave it at this. Where I hunt, there's no excuse to shoot a fawn. However others choose to hunt then so be it. I do wonder how some of you would feel if this was the neighbor who hunts next to your property where you're investing money and time in food plots and trail grooming etc.

Does that part matter? The end result was still a dead fawn,

I do not care what others choose to shoot provided it is done legally, who the hell are you to say anything to your neighbor if he shoots what ever on HIS land. Oh I see you equate spending money on your land to owning the deer and controlling what gets killed around you.
