North American Cat Slam Complete! I got a Mountain Lion (10/31/12 in Arizona), Bobcat (1/2/13 in Minnesota), and a Lynx (12/31/13 in British Columbia, Canada).  All 3 cats were Tom’s (males).

Saturday, 12/28/13 = My Dad and I flew from Newark, NJ to Vancouver, British Columbia and spent the day and night in Vancouver.  It was a pretty nice city. We walked around the city and ate/drank at Steamworks Brewery.

Sunday, 12/29/13 = We flew from Vancouver, BC to Williams Lake, BC.  It was about an hour flight over the mountains.  At Williams Lake we were picked up by our guide, Paul Lowrie of Corkscrew Creek Adventures (http://www.resortsbc.com/Corkscrew-Creek-Adventures/[/url] ).  Paul informed us that we soon would have no cell phone service until we got back to Williams Lake a week later, so we made our final calls and then he drove us 3 ½ hours to his house in Anahim Lake, BC.  Anahim Lake is a pretty remote town on the Dean River (famous for fly fisherman), with most of the population made up by Native Indians.  There aren’t many stores and most people do their shopping 3 ½ hours away in Williams Lake.  The public high school is that far away in Williams Lake.  Paul carried a “SPOT” when we were out hunting. It basically had 3 buttons (I’m OK, Help, 911). When the buttons are pressed they send a signal to his house computer where his wife can see if he still OK or needs help, etc. It gives her the exact gps coordinates on Google maps where he currently is. The 911 button is linked to the closest police/fire department. Pretty cool stuff.  Anyway, on to hunting. I had a Lynx tag and a Wolf tag. My Dad didn’t have any licenses, he was here to see me hopefully get a Lynx.

WOW!!....WTG Big cat....specs??
25lbs, but looks bigger than my 42lb bobcat. The Lynx are all legs and fur. They are made for snow and run across the top of snow while other animals sink down. He was 36" nose to base of tail, 39" including tail.
Congrats on a great hunt!!! What's next??

I believe you are correct. They were like 70-80lbs. Much bigger dogs than I hunted with for mt lion n bobcat. These dogs worked hard in the almost 2 feet deep of snow.

Thanks all.

Forgot to mention that a guy named Dennis Dunn hunted with this outfitter several years ago. Dennis wrote a book about his hunting adventures and how he completed the north american super slam (29 animals) all with a bow, with no yardage pins or sights. It took him something like 170+ days over like 15-20 hunting trips to get 3 bears (grizzly, Alaskan brown, and polar).

Monday, 12/30/13 = Our first day hunting. We came across many Lynx tracks, but nothing fresh enough or big enough worth going after. We never let the dogs out. At 3pm, while driving a back road, my Dad spotted a coyote. Paul handed me a Remington .204 and I quickly got out of the car and took 2 shots. I missed the coyote twice. I used the rangefinder after the shots and they were 260yards and like 400-500yards. I wasn’t too disappointed since they were both tough shots with a gun I never shot before.

Tuesday, 12/31/13 = Day 2 of hunting. We saw 3 snowshoe rabbits (all white) throughout the day and 1 moose! At 10:15am we let dogs out on a good size Lynx. 5 hours later and 17.2KM run by the dogs, Paul thought the dogs had treed the lynx. When we got to the dogs, we couldn't find Lynx in tree for a few minutes till my Dad spotted it. It was big and standing up looking right at me. It was about 40 feet up at the top of a tree. At 3:18pm I shot it. It was a male. Paul told us previously that 24-27lbs was a real trophy, mine weighed in at 25lbs with an empty stomach. He was loaded with fat. He was 36” from nose to base of tail, 39” if you include the tail. This Tom was 5-6 years old, according to Paul. I’m not sure if it will make the SCI record books, but I will measure the skull once I get it cleaned up.

Day 3-5 (Wednesday – Friday), I tried calling on some frozen lakes, but no luck. I went snowmobiling, helped Paul and his son check traps, and saw some otters. Paul and his family trap muskrats, marten, lynx, fisher, etc.

Saturday 1/4/14 = Was a long day. 3 ½ hour drive to Williams Lake, BC then flew to Vancouver, BC then flew to Newark, NJ.

I never did see any wolves, but saw lots of tracks. If anyone is interested in hunting Lynx, Moose, Caribou, and/or Bear in British Columbia, I strongly suggest Paul Lowrie. He has lived in the area for like 30 years and really knows the land and all the different animals that live in the area.

It was weighed by the outfitter (Strand Outfitters) right in front of me.  Skull-wise, it went # 14 all-time SCI. 9 and 10/16 inches.  Each year Strand Outfitters has a few clients get bobcats weighing over 40lbs.  Here is the original thread regarding my bobcat > http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/14081-minnesota-bobcat-hunt-pics/?hl=%2Bminnesota+%2Btrip
