From another forum, can't figure it out.

These two deer were found by a shed hunter a few days ago. No story behind it, just left with tags on them in the woods to rot. Would love to know the story behind it.

Could it be that the hunt was interrupted (injury, sudden illness, a call about a family member) and the hunter was never able to find the spot?  But still, two deer instead of one?  How often to people shoot doubles?

I thought the same thing. Might of been a family emergency

Or something happened to the hunter. I hope that was the situation, why leave the tags on the deer.

I'd think tracking down the person who's name is on the tag's (multiple people?) should be easy enough. Maybe the owner of the tags didn't give permission for filling them and the guy panicked??

The guy probably croaked........

Those deer don't look to bad. I wonder where they were shot and how long they have been hanging??

Strange. I believe that is on long island. So, not coyote bait.

They look fresh.  Maybe the hunter left the woods to get help dragging them out and came back later in the day.

My guess: Hunter or hunters were unfamiliar with hunting area. Went out to get help for dragging. Couldn't find the exact spot where they left the deer.

I have to assume they got lost and couldn't find the site again.

If you were gonna do something like leaving the deer in the woods, you probably wouldn't take the time and effort to hang them in the trees; and you certainly wouldn't want to leave your tags on them.  Something fishy.

They don't look that fresh. Look at the eyes, they are sunken in. I don't do the facebook thing. Where were they found?

I agree that someone probably couldnt find their way back to the deer. They may have hung them if they were worried about dogs or yotes or something getting to them on the ground. Seeing as they were tagged, as long as the person called them in, I dont think theres anything illegal about this, so reporting them to DEC isnt going to accomplish anything.

 

As far as doubles go, people do that all the time. I did it this past season, and Ive done it a few other times before.

There was actually 3 deer hung there. He didn't say where it was but said it was within distance of a road where they could have basically drove up to the deer to retrieve them.

I looked at that picture on my iphone and expanded it earlier today when I first saw it.  I thought I saw a third deer also.
