philoshop
Chapeau par excellence!! Scent will make 'em run every time. Movement will make 'em run half the time. Just being there will make 'em run sometimes. (If it was easy, it'd be called shopping.) Noise will make 'em curious, but, human type noise will put the other two senses on full alert. Best be on your game for that! Any two of the above, in combination, will also make 'em run every time. Plan accordingly.
NFA-ADK
Wooly LOL that is funny! I do not wear my war paint most of the time. The camo bandana, hat and sometimes balaclava or full ski mask if brutally cold. Otherwise in so far as getting busted because they saw my head/face, this has happened more than I care to admit. Hence sometimes I go full war paint. Up in the stands I tried it did not matter hence I got down and covered up. Ground hunting is another world. JMO Being still is best regardless of camo hence still-hunting but eventually I have to move so any extra break up is always desired and lets face it, IT'S FUN!!! wooly
That's quite a hat. Where in the world did you find such a weapon? LOL. I won that in a karaoke contest one night against some bum named Ted Nugent, lol!
Cabin Fever
Does the camo face paint come off easily? Not sure I've ever tried it. If I did, it was probably ~30 years ago. The masks can be a pain in the ass sometimes, so maybe I should consider giving the face paint a try...

nyslowhand
Wearing glasses, a mask is a royal PITA so I use face paint. It does come off with soap & water. Have also used those baby wipes to take it off. If you're OCD about it, there are scent free soaps or wipes that also work removing the clown-face. landtracdeerhunter
I like the ability to get in the field quickly to hunt. A face mask gives me that ability. It also keeps my nose warmer on those cold mornings. Really get quite use to it rather quickly. Later in the season, I feel funny if I don't wear it. Like getting use to a seat belt in a car. 518BowSlayer
definitely a must for turkey hunting but not necessary at all for deer. shot my doe last year on opening day of bow after she walked in a straight line directly in front of my stand and stopped while almost touching the ladder. shot all my deer at less than 20yds and have only been busted from movement. staying still is key. camo isn't really necessary either but I like it anyway. plenty of deer were killed before camo
dbHunterNY
Most of the time i don't wear either. Many times I do wear mesh mask. It gets a little annoying though. It helps but I've had deer many times under ten yards that didn't notice. With nothing but my bare face.
Doc
I often wonder how many of these super-precautions that we routinely consider as being absolutely indispensable, are simply carryovers from a unique experience that some famed outdoor writer had once in his life ..... lol. How many times or what percentage of times will a deer actually spot you because your face is uncovered? Does it ever happen? Does the deer spot your uncovered face, or simply a motion that they would have caught even if you wore a complete camoed face mask. I guess no one is going to conduct any kind of study on that, so we engage in a whole lot of "just-in-case" rituals. I still think about the old-timers that always seemed to have success in their plaid jackets and blue-jeans, and no attempt at facial coverings. It just makes you wonder sometimes what is about actual deer hunting necessities and what is about selling products to hunters.
PREDATE
Aside from the obvious like minimizing movement, masks definately should be utilized. At least I always do. Of course stand hunting is an advantage due to being above their line of site, but stand placement is important as well. Sure a deer will come ambling to the corn field on Oct. 1st and never even think to watch the trees, but try that scenario out on Nov. 1st after the woods have been filled with hunters and the smell of hunters. Remember, deer can pattern you just as easy as you can them. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk
