Live From the Stand / Woods 2014!

3 doe and 1 spike seen this evening. Tomorrow will be my first morning hunt this season. Can't wait!

Zip for the day today.my friend says he either heard 2 bucks fighting or one fighting for its life.Said smashing,crashing grunting and wheezing. Didn't here one yote sound though,scared the shiznit out of him he almost didn't come out of the stand!!

tl;dr; People in the spot I wanted. Tried a new spot, saw a 6 and an 8 or 10. Not sure how to approach it tomorrow.

Rain all morning, so I stayed dry. After a b-day party for a buddies kids I got out at about 4 to the spot I wanted to hunt and setup a stand. Unfortunately there was already a truck with two tags in the window in the parking area already. Not wanting to mess with their hunt or see other humans I started checking out the map.

 

There was a spot I found on the birds eye view this summer on bing maps. It was an area that intersects a small swamp, mountain laurel, hard woods, and some natural funnels and rocky ridges. Have not ever been there I treated it as a stalk and scout, didn’t bring my climber or anything.  I started walking one of the rocky ridges looking for sign or spots that looked good.

 

After walking for awhile I go near one of the small swamps and it was thick and looked like it would hold deer. I could also hear what sounded like acorns falling very often on the other side of it. Great, cover, bedding, and food! When could see the far end, about 60 yards, I hear a snort and see a small 6 pop up and trot about 10 yards in the wrong direction. He stood there a few minutes stomping and trying to get me the move. Finally he walks away tail down.

 

Next I hear another deer coming from close to where the 6 was, and it was a big bodied deer. Looked like an 8 or so with a tall rack. He had his tail flagging but never ran, just a slow walk. He stopped and looked in my direction for a minute or so too before he headed into the laurels.

 

Now I am not sure what to do tomorrow. I want to get in there but the only good tree was riiight near where the 6 was. I don’t want to push them out of the area either. The wind was in my face, and neither deer ran, so I think they were more concerned with seeing the movement. Think I am going to do in mid day set up the climber and sit the whole afternoon.

Crotch horn, 3 doe, and a nice red fox this morning. Nothing tonight which surprised me. Oh well onto tommorow, weather looks awesome!

Saw 4 doe and 2 bucks this am in Pittsford - Mendon this am . There is one less doe now . Got her at about 20 yards .  All I have to do now is clean up the meat , do some grinding and packaging .

By clean up the meat I mean cutting away the fat , silver , etc ..

Dag gum filthy rotten mangey stupid song dogs... had one come in and hang out... could NOT get ANY shot... amazing how I see deer all day then the yotes come in and poooof

Went to the Alabama Swamps today for a change of pace from my regular hunting spots. Alot of great deer signs. Had 3 doe walk up under my stand. That was about it ..acorns falling pretty much non-stop, dam squirrels everywhere. Its was ridiculous.. Hoping to get back out tomorrow.

Ok back in a tree @ 6am. Took a break for duck hunting yesterday with my nephew. Now it's time! I pushed a few around on my way to the stand, should be early enough for things to settle down though B4 shooting light. Good luck to all

Hopefully the yotes didn't tire out the deer last night, and they will be moving this a.m. with the frosty Temps. My thermometer says 34

Oh my god, it's so quiet out! Should be able to hear deer for miles. What little wind we have is favorable. Come on big boy, come play.

Was able to harvest a 4 year old doe yesterday morning. Drew back on one before her, heard the woods erupt behind me. 10 deer hauling butt when they saw me draw

Turkey's , criows and combines so far .one deer chasing another all over ciut corn on walk in .

7 55 really tall spike in beans let's hope some others moving .....

Awesome, walking in to my stand and about 100 yards away from the truck, with my sleeve I wipe my running nose and boom. Gushing blood from that moment on almost all the way to my stand. Great start lol. Maybe the yotes will find me haha

This spot is wild 12" spike, then 1/2 hr later 6" spike and just now 45 min after last a unicorn ! Spike missing its lft side . No sign of the two shooter bucks I've seen from a far ! & zero doe's ... Odd morning so far

Surprisingly slow. Munks, squirrels and geese are all I hear !
