steve863
I am not against xbows either, but I wouldn't take one if someone was giving me one for nothing. if I ever saw a clumsy contraption and a half, it's got to be an xbow!!
turkeyfeathers
Glad I am not the only one who finds their xbow to be awkward and clumsy Jeesh folks, Daryll on The Walking Dead has no problems with his ! PS I still would like to see a .22 on this show considering it's the most popular caliber in the world. Haven't seen one yet !

bkln
I have to admit though that it is a pain to carry for a long walks, on the stand I just lay it down on the railings like I do with the gun. The only negative I can think of is its weight, and no I didn't get anything with it yet, still waiting for that chance.
Bow Addict
In the muli trunked tree I have my stand in,i have less shooting options with my xbow than I do with my compound.

growalot
Wooly your hunt sounded like mine. I said I needed to get see thru flip up lens covers and didn't my bad on that...especially when trying to tow it up into the stand and lowering it...it gets caught on everything...not having my compound had me pass on a real nice bow fox...just because of hunt disruption it would have caused with the xbow......also had I had my compound I probably would have stood and turned when I first heard the doe trotting in last night getting that shot before she spooked 5ft away...but the xbow has such a big sight profile standing and turning with it I figured would have spooked her....
growalot
I have been using my sling for years on my guns one reason shooting a bead out to a bit over 100yrds hasn't been a problem and WoW rifle shooting it's a must with out a gun rest...but also works great with the xbow I have no problem off hand bulls eyes at 40yrds with the sling on the xbow..my DIL was a marine and taught my this. http://www.gundigest.com/shooting-articles-advice/rifle-shooting-basics-loop-sling Edited November 3, 2014 by growalot
The_Real_TCIII
Darryl makes his own bolts. I think the very last weapon I'd want in a zombie apocalypse is that x-bow, I'd rather have a nine iron!
fasteddie
Three minutes is FOREVER. I'd like to see you hold a xbow up for TWO minutes! Ain't happening............. Give me a break . How long do you hold a rifle up for 3 or more minutes ? That's why crossbow hunters use a bi-pod , mono-pod , treestand shooting rail , etc .. Doc
Well, anyway, it sounds like the crossbow is such a goofy, worthless, p.o.s., that all sales will dry up and the idea of hunting with a crossbow will eventually be figured out by everyone to be such a pain that no one will be using one ........ right? I mean, why bother struggling with all that weight and having something that is impossible to carry without hooking everything in the woods. Really, from some of these descriptions, it sounds like the most ridiculous thing to take afield for any kind of hunting.
BizCT
Why does anyone need a rest for a xbow? I shoot offhand just fine out to 40 yards or off my knee when sitting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Buckmaster7600
Last month I hunted my lease in Ohio my dad couldn't come so he told me to bring his Excalibur after shooting it for a couple weeks I was very impressed and for the first time considered buying one. The first morning in Ohio I carried it and holy hell was it awful. Before I got to my stand I decided I was extremely glad my compound was in the truck! It's heavy, extremely awkward and shooting from a hang on stand is drastically decreased. If I was living in Texas and hunted a ground blind looking over a feeder it's probably all I would carry.ifor real world hunting its a huge "no go" for me. All in all it is not worth making my 30yd groups 1" as to 3inches with the compound. Now I am not at all against xbows and for those who like them or can't use a compound they are awesome and give you another season to hunt, but for me the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Good observations about the crossbow. The other big issue using a crossbow is noise. There are going to be a ton of people who will try to shoot deer at 30+ yards. Yes the xbow is accurate at 30+, but very noisy. I have 25 years of experience using one, some people will make a few good shots on an unsuspecting deer, but several deer will "jump string" resulting in a bad hit. You won't hear much about the 40 yd shots that didn't result in a picture. I've killed 2 does with my xbow this year, neither over 15 yds. Buckmaster7600
I agree with the noise, I would give up 20yds of range by carrying a crossbow as to my compound. As I said before if I only hinted from a ground blind I would most likely buy one but for the way I hunt I am giving up too much to gain too little.
