jjb4900
what's the pay and retirement difference between the two?
Red
Thank you everyone the job I ready want is a buffalo cop. Buffalo stays off $48-58k and the courts is $39-55 With being a cop you can rack up the over time I don't believe that there is over time fire the court officer but that is m-f. But also would have to move the family 3-5 hrs away both you can retire from after 20yrs Lawdwaz. Im 33. I think the tests are worth taking when you get canvased you can get lucky and they could be hiring around here at that time a few years ago I was taking every civil service test that was in the criminal justice field I don't do the greatest on tests I usually get between a 75-80. On the court officer test I only got a 70 that put me 25884 on the list lol but three years later they made it to me. I went down last week and checked on the buffalo police list and I'll be in the next group that they are calling for the physical and stuff good luck to your son
Lawdwaz
That's great Red. Hopefully you can get the BPD job but don't turn down the other. 20 and out is something very few on here will ever see...........ME included.
Sogaard
The last court officer exam was given in 2009 (I thought)...that list is still active. I was a 1xx list number out of 30,000+. That list is being retired shortly to make room for the test that is being given at the end of this year. My brother has been on the job 27 years now and can't wait to get out. There is still a lot of good things about the job, but Tier 6 is real tough compared to Tier 4, and it is a 30 year retirement, not a 20. I ended up passing on the job. By the time they put in the first class from my list (2012), I had found a better job.
Red
Thank you That's me and my wife were saying I won't turn down the b state one but hopefully the bpd letter comes in the mean time both processes are pretty lengthy I would love to do a 20 and out the get a good security gig or get another job and a second pension i like doing the work that I do know but already at 33 its starting to take its toll on my body from hand digging and putting 39' 266lb poles on my shoulder

Nomad
Good luck to you! Lawdwaz, your son should take every test he can, same for Red. Took me 7 years to,get hired by the FD. Well the first test I never took the second part so had to wait 4 years for the next one, then 3 to get hired. I'm tier two.few of is leave after 20 ,even if you'er 50 or so you'er going to live another 30 years and the retirement pay does not go up. Even with the changes in tiers people are still lining up for the jobs. Take every test, people tend to do better over time.

Woodjr55
It took me about a year and a half but I leave for the corrections academy on Sunday
Red
Woodjr55 Congratulations I've heard the corrections process is extremely long.
Woodjr55
I forget when I took the exam but it took about 6-8 months for the results then another 6 months to get the canvass. Once I got the canvass letter I did the interview psych exam and the interview with the psychologist within 6 weeks. I had my interview with the psychologist the 31st of May. So it's a pretty long ordeal. But I'll be retired by the age of 51!
covert
I took the Trooper test a few years back but by the time they called I'd decided it wasn't going to be for me so I turned it down.
Red
I just got the letter this morning my agility test is next Friday morning I'm ready for it. I sprained my ankle pretty bad last weekend but I've been resting it. It's going to hurt to run like that with my ankle being tender but every bit of pain will be well worth it
Red
Covert. I know a couple people who said that. They took the troopers test or other tests and by the time they made it to them they turned it down.
covert
It wasn't really that long, I just realized that the money and retirement was the only reason I had been interested and I didn't think that was a good reason to do something like that. In the end no one would be happy.
Red
I agree you definitely shouldnt take a job that wouldn't make you happy especially when you spend 40-60hrs a week at work
