Gut shot next day recovery

What is everybody's take on a deer that is gut shot and recovered the next day? Meat spoilage? Everything consumable, partial or none? Temps in the 40's, rained overnight and deer went through a swamp.

I recovered a gut shot deer for my cousin years back, temp.was about the same. Deer was shot late afternoon and was recovered the next morning and meat was fine. Should be ok.

SHould be fine to eat. Rinse it good to get the gook out. I would stay away from the tender loins.

Luckily I've never had to wait until the next day to recover a deer.  Honestly, I don't think I'd be very comfortable in consuming it unless the temperatures were below freezing.  I know people have probably survived after eating deer that were recovered the next day in similar conditions, but I think I'd give it a pass.  I'd tag the deer, but I doubt the meat would end up in my freezer.

yea I would bet good except the inner loins. Get it rinsed out good and get it butchered.

Only deer I ever recovered the next day had its hind quarters eaten by coyotes so I was scared to touch any of it...I think if its below 50 you should be ok. Thats the temp Ive been told you can leave a deer hanging over night so Im assuming your situation would be the same.

Inner loins gone for sure. Clean it out real good let it dry out a bit then cut the rest of the deer up.

so many more deer are killed and retrieved immediately and then subjected to poor handling before being butchered and consumed than there are deer ruined by being gutshot and left overnight ......don't sweat it, if it's beyond saving you'll know it when you butcher it.

im sure I'll be drawn and quartered for saying this but I think the inside tenderloins are terrible anyway, they are stringy and taste awful. Just my opinion

I wish the entire deer was made up of inside tenderloins.....and antlers,lol

I can't believe you said that lol. Im heartbroken for you! Just kidding man everyone's different. Hope you put that good cut of meat to good use. I normally take it from the deer and put it on the grill or fire on the spot.

In my humble opinion.....Inside loins are good.....but not nearly as good as those backstraps (outer loins).  Those backstraps are heaven!

those inner loins are the first thing we eat....I just wish there was more of them. That's the filet mignon cut.

I have found I do not like the inner loins as much pulled out warm and cooked right up. Always liked better later or even after frozen.

Now the two best parts on a deer the two backstraps yup, then the heart!

Thanks for all the replies. Meat looks ok and stayed cold. I discarded the tenderloins and pretty much kept the shoulder/hind and neck meat. I'll make my brother-in-law taste it first lol.

Recovered a gut shot doe last year.... honestly they were some of the biggest and best tenderloins to date.....maybe cause they were marinated in corn and greens chowder ? Lol. Seriously, they were awesome. U should be fine

My friends friend gave me venison 2 years ago.  It had the nastiest taste ever.  Not rotten, not spoiled.  Just a nasty taste.  I couldn't place it.  Maybe it was gut shot??   I had to throw it out.   I wonder if the gut juices tainted the meat??
