NY never had a system like that. State Troopers would have random deer check stations set up on the highway or by the bridges leading into the City. Honestly I think these businesses would not like the problem of hiring someone to check deer, unless the DEC does it.

The shops in Maine and NH that tag deer are acting as as agent for the state. The shops charge $2 to tag or $5 if you want to tag and weigh the deer on their certified scale. Most of the guys doing the tagging and weighing are volunteers because its a fun social event.

The best time is when a kid brings in his or her 1st deer . They get swarmed from the other hunters there with handshakes and High 5's congratulating them. My youngest son who was 14 when he got his 1st deer still mentions how he felt like he " belonged " in the hunting community after having over 20 hunters and 2 game wardens who were there all gave him the thumbs up and handshakes . And of course , they all want to hear the story ! :good: . He is 26 now and that event left an a lifelong impression .  You cant put a value on that because its Priceless !

I know after meat is processed the tag is taped to the box. Hopefully I get the plastic tag back also. I'm sure there would be no reason to take the tag out of the holder.

I picked up my license and tags at Runnings, just like I have the last few years.  They didn’t charge any extra to print but everything was on plain 8-1/2 x 11 white paper.  All (5) deer tags and (3) turkey tags were on the same sheet.

I cut one out, completed it, put it in a zip lock bag, and duct taped it to my early antlerless gun season doe, prior to transport.  I called it into the number and got a confirmation number (2) days after the kill (they give you 7 days for that).

Other than the zip lock bag and duct tape, I didn’t find the process much different than other years.

Some WMA's are listed wrong in the Regs booklet . My youngest son lives in the 8N WMA . 8N isn't in the map . It's listed wrong as a 2nd 8M . There is no 8H . It is listed as a 2nd 8A . I wonder how many other WMA's are listed wrong .

I have a folder full of old sporting licenses and back tags from years past, they sure have evolved.

Way back when we had those big piece's of paper that had a sticker for every license you had, what was the tag system like? I can remember the big paper with all the stickers but I can not remember what the tag system was like.

Where did you attach your tag Woc?  Also, did you have any issues attaching it and keeping it securely on your deer?

Placed in zip lock bag and duct taped to front leg during transport on cargo carrier .IMG_5379.thumb.jpeg.1a46e41c57020fe9a115000540ba2b6f.jpeg
