The new system for carcass tags and DMPs

Is there anyone else here that is having problems with endless chasing of links around the DEC website trying to find Carcass tags and DMPs to print. I'm about ready to call it quits. I was expecting a straight forward, step by step, process that tells a Lifetime License holder how to get the carcass tags and the DMPs to print. Well apparently I am too stupid to chase down all the links to links to links to even find the process. I hope this is only my denseness and that everyone else is not having this problem.

It is kind of a pain in the ass but I figured it out and got mine. I believe you still can go to a license issuing agent and get your permits.

Yup.  Same here. Ended up running up to the Town to get them. Now all I have to do is copy this piece of paper 5 times and have unlimited about of buck and doe tags. Thanks Ny State!!

Which is exactly what I just got done doing. As it turned out, The DEC sent me only the cover letter and left out all the other stuff. So I was beat before I even got started. She did her magic on the computer and now I've got carcass tags and DMPs. I'm happy again.

Can they be photocopied once? I can see a real problem when the tags get wet and the ink smears.

Yeah, it might be a good idea to have some zip-lock sandwich bags with you to put the tags in for attachment to the carcass.

One of those old-guys with a crap memory...... But, I don't remember what the carcass tags were made of before that fancy plastic-style paper, but weren't they just a "card-stock" kind of paper?

Are their noiseless ones?

Once the deer is dead and on the ground in front of you, do you really care about how much noise a sandwich bag is going to make as you slip the tag into it and attach the bag/tag to the deer? No......Probably not. But in reality, plastic sandwich bags do not make much noise anyway. I use them for my sandwiches on stand all the time, and I don't remember a whole lot of noise when I pull them out of my pack and start munching on the sandwiches.

The reason that I heard was regarding DEC cost. But what really happens to any cost savings that they may get out of all this? Is it reflected in a reduction in license fees or given back to the hunters in any way? I never see where they try to make that case.

The online system truly sucks. When getting my cart together It's so confusing I never know if I'm going to end up having to go to town hall anyway to straighten it out when I'm at the checkout pay point. Then the part about doe permits having to be done separately is annoying. I keep getting to the checkout part and I'm like well WTF about my doe permits.

Once I got tired of chasing links all over the entire DEC web-site, I finally did the right thing and went down to the Town Clerk and she fixed the whole thing up in a couple minutes.

I got my DMPs at the town clerk office, she pointed to the old machine for printing the licenses.  The state was supposed to pick up the old machine and left over paper according to her but never did.  I also bought 50 clear plastic luggage tags on Amazon for camp (around $7.00, I think) to attach the silly paper tags to deer with zip ties.  That will probably last us forever.

I guess the state is not concerned about recycling the machines. So much for going green. Do as I say, not as I do.

I don't know about the rest of you but, I paid 62 bucks for 3 sheets of 9 x 11 copy paper which now in likely end up with a bunch of smeared printing on it. The type of weather we hunt in, those papers tags won't stay dry.  For 62 bucks, the least this state could do is give out some decent tags.

Maine and NH where I hunt have had paper tags and licenses for at least 5 years now .  This type of sealed tag and license holders do the trick . had no issues using these. I print out a couple extra sets of licenses and tags to have as spares in case something gets lost or wet , but haven't needed to use the extras .

What I dont like is the reporting system . I know its cheaper for the state to have harvest reported online , but its detrimental to the small gun shops that are tagging stations . Also the biologists usually set up at the tagging stations to examine the health of the deer brought in for the 1st week of the season . Now they might not get the real info if everyone reports online. I still will go to the tagging station. Its more fun and I like supporting  the shops .

NY never had a system like that. State Troopers would have random deer check stations set up on the highway or by the bridges leading into the City. Honestly I think these businesses would not like the problem of hiring someone to check deer, unless the DEC does it.

Not that Saturdays weather was bad or anything but we just filled out the tag, put it in a sandwich bag and zip tied it to the deer. Don't forget the tag needs to be filled out while getting the deer out of the woods but you do not have to attach it to the deer until its out of the woods.
