Where The Heck Did It Go? %#@&*#$^+@%

I was doing some work on a PIA round window on the front of our house today.  A piece of the frame broke off when I was pulling it off the window to get it ready for some paint.  The chip is substantial and needs to be glued back in place.........

IF I COULD FIND THE DAMNED THING!!

I took the window and the chip down to the basement.  As I reached for the glue I put the chip in my teeth to hold it for a second but then I thought "that's dumb, it probably has lead paint on it" so I took it out of my mouth and set it___________.

I have no idea where the heck it went.  I'm fit to be tied right now.  I looked for 30 minutes and I'm done.  Oh I wish I could type what I'm mumbling right now.

A few members here have seen my basement, you guys think I'll ever find it? :)

Simmering................. :(

Wanna tip?

Fill the area with Bondo......2 part autobody filler.

Good to carve in some grooves so it has more bonding area.

Sand to shape. (another hint; just before it final cures its easy to carve with a sharp chisel, and when cured it routs great)

You don't need to get it perfect the first time, you can always add more to fill in to final shape.

West Systems epoxy and Bondo have restored many a wood trim parts.

The type with chopped fiberglass can fill craters. LOL

And I seen the basement.

You're screwed.

I had shorts on at the time and no I didn't swallow it. :)

But..................................I found it!

It was on top of a vintage pipe tobacco canister/pipe rack that I must have moved then set more "stuff" on while clearing a spot on the work bench for the glue-up.

It is all glued & clamped as of now.  No pics of this project as the skilled trades guys here would shoot me. :)

It the bondo OK on the outside of the frame?  Facing west..............of course. :)  I've got more projects!

If that stuff can handle the elements I could rule the world with it and duct tape..........................................and a .38 special.

I tell the guy I'm working for at the moment I could build anything inside a house with Bondo and MDF (that's a man-made material)

Anyway, yes you can use it outside. Base material has to be dry and solid. I often drill 1/4" holes and fill them with epoxy for soft wood to stiffen things up and rebuild the shape with body filler.

No kidding.......I go from the basement to the 2nd floor a hundred times a day.  It HAS to help my waistline.

(or just make me hungrier?)

MDF inside and Azek outside.  The fellow I'm woking for uses miles (!) of Azek for trimming outside around windows.

Thanks for the tips too.  I'll be PM'ing you regarding some architectural advice in the coming days.  Sharpen your pencil.......................

And then there is the deal where you set something down and while you are doing something else, a paper towel or something else just a little larger gets set on top of it, and you spend 15 minutes looking for the first thing you set down.

But worse than that is the ever increasing situation of just plain not seeing things that are right in front of you. Damn! that's happening more and more everyday.

Lawd, I feel your pain, it gets even worse... you set down a cold one and 5 minutes later you can not find it ! nothing worse than loosing a beer. As for the window repair you should post the pics I'm sure we all would enjoy the comic relief!! JK  Good luck.

Don't worry about pics, you'll be seeing it in person when you have to fix it. :)
