growalot
Well my daughter and I are on the same plan...and she is upgrading...She needs more data space(?)for work which means I have to too and they don't have plans for my type of phone...so she says...anyways they think I should be internet available everywhere now. They were talking phones for me and I said why don't you get the new phone and I'll take your..I think she said G4?...So that means I can actually use the tap talk thing...and send pics...while on stand....Though I have been given the talk...YOU CAN NOT LEAVE IT IN THE COLD..in the car...it's a computer no dropping it...lol...I said I sit in freezing temps for hours...what good is it...it has to be near your body! Any whoo we'll see if I can figure it out...But first I have to pickit up down in Bigflats...seeing I'm paying for both right now..

dbHunterNY
I'm an electrical engineer and reluctant to get the newest and greatest electronic devices. I do have an iPhone though. have the weather channel, DDH Shot Simulator, Tapatalk, facebook, food network: on the road, and Bullet Flight L2 (rifle ballistics) apps that I use regularly for various reasons. they come in handy. ...there's other trail mapping apps out there if you hunt bigger woods or tracts of land. also scouting new property. Five Seasons
I would never upgrade a personal phone for work. If your work requires you to have a smart phone they should pay for it or deal with what you have. I haven't paid a smartphone bill in over 8 years. Going back to the days of my trackball blackberry. Tell your daughter to ask for what she deserves.
mxsmitz201
I highly recommend the app "hunt stand". Great for checkin wind at your stand locations and stuff like that. It's a pretty thorough hunting app but I primarily use it to check wind and pinpoint spots on state land that id like to hunt again.

Five Seasons
Belo if you have seen any news lately...not the best of times to be doing that!!!...avoiding mentioning any thing specific here Thankyou I have no idea what that even means. But letting a company or corporation tell you that you're required to spend out of pocket money for the job is an OSHA violation in some instances, and also a tax issue with others. So you can be walked on if you want. I'll chose not to be.
Doc
I have to congratulate the hi-tech communications industry on how they have successfully created a market where all they have to do is introduce new models and they have people conditioned to spend whatever it takes to be the most up-to-date user. It's like watching sheep responding to someone banging on a grain pail ..... lol. I watch kids (and adults) throwing down perfectly functional smart phones simply because a new model comes out .... even when the new capabilities are something that they won't even use or need. I am really bummed that I never got involved in that industry in some receiving fashion and foresaw the narcotic-like effects that hi-tech would have on the public of the future.
Caveman
Even better is what Apple has done, Doc. I have an iphone 4s (I believe they are now on 6 or so). I don't need the latest model, just a functioning smartphone. I now have to ditch my phone soon because Apple has continually put out newer operating systems that are not very compatible with my old hardware. As a result, I don't install those new operating systems and the more out of date my OS gets, the more problems my phone gives me as far as not receiving texts, dropping calls, closing apps/internet browser. They have effectively forced me to get a new phone even though there is no reason mine should not be functional.

I currently am using an S4 and am waiting till either this one craps out on me or the S7, whichever happens first I suppose Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

I would hate to guess how many thousands of dollars worth of purchased software that I have lost because no one is worrying about compatibility issues when thy upgrade operating systems on computers. Much of that incompatible software that was trashed was actually superior to today's crappy replacements. Your right. They have mastered the art of screwing the consumer. And for the most part, because they threaten to stop supporting the old operating systems we are forced to play their game. It doesn't matter though because most consumers love the game and can't wait to trot right off to load the new OS's regardless of what they lose. It seems to be more about being the first kid on the block to have the latest piece of hi-tech crap.
Two Track
Most companies are no longer providing phones. They will re-reimburse you up to a set dollar amount per month for the plan, but not the cost of the phone. Companies do not want to be stuck in a phone contract for an employee who left the company. So they expect you to provide your own phone, and they will contribute to your monthly service payment. I went to a pre-paid for work, so I won't get stuck either. A few months later, we had to upgrade our personal phones to keep in touch with son in college. As supposedly 3G service was not available, but they put in 4G service there and not repairing the old 3G equipment (so they claimed). Had dropped calls every two minutes using the old basic phones everytime we talked to him, so we upgraded. First phone upgrade we did in 5 years. Had to pay for new smartphone, got a new "plan", buy new cases, and had an upgrade fee to top it off. Got on campus for a visit, and the connection indicated we had 3G connection not 4G while there in the city, and I get 4G at home in semi-rural area.
