Youth ATV's - Anyone try / use one of those cheaper Chinese units?

I read a lot of about these, overall, if well maintained and checked they last and are safe. Just curious if anyone had some hands on with them?

The least expensive ones are the 110cc's and come a governor and remote cutoff.

yes I have bought two of them one runs like a brand new machine the other is a brand new paper weight wont run at all, and I bought them both from the same company. Both are 110 cc the only issue I have had with the one that runs is a voltage regulator seemed to burn out they are pretty cheap about $6 on amazon.

Also keep in mind they come on a pallet takes about a hour to put it tougher I had to install shocks tires steering handle bars not really tough stuff just try to buy local that way you can find someone to work on them and as to my second one the paper weight  if you need parts PM me its has a electrical issue!!

I have a little 50 for my son.  I think its called the Wahoo, not the make, that's the model.  One of the cheapo Chinese companies made it.  I got it for free off a guy who had it and couldnt get it to run.  His sun had ridden it for 5-6 years, it has to be every bit of 10 years old.  I gave it a little tune up and it needed and new CDI ($11 off amazon).  Now it runs like new and has for 2 years.  Good little machine for them to learn the basics on.  Has a remote kill switch and governor.  I consider it to be safe.

Theres only 1 or 2 companies that make them. They are ripoff designs of Japanese/American bikes. I had a Redcat 50 for my daughter for a few years. It ran great, just needed normal maintenance like any other quad. Nothing unsafe about it. Ill be looking at them again next year, I want to get one that the kids can ride. My daughter is big enough to drive my UTV, and she is NOT taking that over lol.

Have one that was given to me. They are nice machines for what they are. Just keep in mind that you should be mechanically inclined as there is very little dealer support for them. Only thing I had to do was change oil and clean/tune carb runs like a top and the kids really enjoy it. As far as a governor most that I have seen only have a throttle stop. Being cvt transmissions it dose not limit top speed only how long it takes them to get there.

The one I bought my daughter had a throttle stop. It limited how far the throttle could be depressed. by only giving half throttle it did limit the available top speed.

I wouldn't buy one. I would look on Craigslist for a small atv. You can usually get a good price and if you stick to the known brands repairs will be cheaper. The only issue on CL is many people don't have papers. That's actually easy to get past. You get the SN and ID number and add them to a bill of sale and you can get a registration.

I talked to a lot of folks about the taotao and been mostly happy plus parts for these things are everywhere.. In addition there are guides and tutorials all over the net for common repairs and upgrades. They said just check all the screws/bolts and loctite, change the oil religiously, change air filter and plug day one, and they will last forever.

Has the throttle stop, remote cut off, and other safety features.

Arrived yesterday, got it off eBay brand new. Just have to put tires and handlebars on.

  • 4 weeks later...

Spent the last 4 hrs taking this out of the metal crate, assembling, and redoing all bolts with loctite blue and lockwashers. It looks and feels solid now. Also have some synthetic 4 cycle I'm going to swap in after I let it run 20 min or so this weekend and a NGK plug they suggested as a swap. Added a girl basket for effect. She gonna flip when she sees it Xmas morning.

Can't wait to get her going on it!
