Federal Court Rules On Climate Change In Favor Of Today's Children

Recommended Posts

It's interesting that the people who complain about the 1% of the wealthiest Americans somehow forget that many of those in that 1% are college administrators, or college coaches, or college union leaders... or the politicians who put those very same people in power. Keep paying and they'll keep taking.

Dissonance writ large.

I call bullshit!!

Listen look at the numbers, even the best paid coach or Administrator is not in the 1%. It is clear to me you've no concept of how much the 1% earn.

What about colleges themselves? Many of them charge tens of thousands of dollar a year for tuition. They have billions in their coffers and pay little or no property taxes. 1% or do only individuals count?[/quote

Phili cited individuals. Interesting about them not paying property tax. I never knew that

The last time I brought a pack of good ole Marlboro Reds they cost about $2.50 a pack. And how does one relate paranoid thoughts with the current price of cigarettes?

I believe he was referring to the government's lawsuit against tobacco companies that cost them billions.  It's obvious now it's costing smokers billions.  When people criticized the lawsuit back then claiming it would be passed on to smokers, they were dismissed as paranoid because nobody would ever pay $5 for a pack of cigarettes.

Look clearly there are high paid couches and college presidents. But it is not many and it is certainly not "many of those in that !%" Even if your numbers add up to one thousand coaches and college presidents they are dwarfed by the number of colleges across the country and by the corporate execs who earn in the 1% range. So yeah I'd say 1% of the 1% are connected to college coaching or administration.

That government lawsuit ended with the MSA (Master Settlement Agreement), whereby the state governments and the tobacco companies agreed to share tobacco profits. That led to the issuance of state bonds that were dependent on continued tobacco sales that were actively being curtailed by other state and federal agencies charged with cracking down on smoking. Very weird stuff.

10's of Billions of dollars in play, and possibly the financial ruin of a few states if smokers actually quit. The advent of personal vaporizers and products like Snus are being attacked not because they're unhealthy alternatives to smoking, but because they don't pay like smoking.

This is really interesting stuff if you want to get into it. It's a case study of government dysfunction and obfuscation.

You have to understand what's happening with loan repayment to see the whole picture.

Cohort default rates substantially underestimate the percent of students who have been unable to lower their loan balances. Of the nearly 5,700 colleges with data on both CDRs and repayment rates, the median college had a 14.9 percent three-year CDR while 40.8 percent of students did not repay any principal in the first three years after leaving college. This means that one in four exiting students was not in default, yet did not make a dent in their loan balance in the first three years after entering repayment.

The truth about student loans is very ugly.  Most college educations today do not prepare the student to earn enough money to ever pay the loan back.  The return on investment is often very poor.  It didn't used to be that way, back when people had to come up with the money on their own and colleges weren't overpriced due to all the free money the Fed gives out.

more of the issue is that some kids go to college because they're lead to believe that's what they're supposed to do, but then they major in underwater basket weaving and wonder why they can't find a job. There's not enough young kids learning the trade and too many just going to school for the social aspects of it. If you're going to college it better be in a field where you know someone is going to pay you for your skill, not for your paper.

Some interesting number from just our lives. I have seen another that goes back into the 30's 40's and 50's with the same type items. Just can't put my hands on it.

So once figures are adjusted for inflation, most things are more or less the same price but a college education has gone up 2.5x.  But yeah... those lazy college kids complaining about debt.  What hooligans.  They totally have the same shot that their parents did.  Yeah.

With an out of control industry that is gouging the customers, maybe the Govt should be regulation them. You know. mandate their profits and expenditures, tell them what they can charge and what curriculum they can provide
