diplomat019
I went out this am. Called for about an hour and didn't hear anything. I was sitting on a woodline overlooking fields. I decided to get up and move to another spot. As I'm walking along the tree line I see two turkeys (couldnt tell the sex) at the end of the field about 100 yards away. They spotted me and ran off into the woods. My question is: In a scenario like that are they off to the races and you can kiss them goodbye or could you sit down and call them back? Skillet
On the way home from camp, a few miles down the rd. She had just gotten hit when I pulled up. I took her out of the rd. What a waste. ????

ants
I haven't been out in a couple days. Been busy putting down new flooring and molding in one room. Then half way through, the wife decided the whole room needed to be a different color. Im just about done and plan on hitting it hard the next few days. I have had good action so far, just haven't dropped the hammer yet.

I've tried to circle/flank them so they don't know it's "me". birds are smart but they're not geniuses. It's never worked though, so they're smarter than me.
deerpassion
SOB's are just messin with me now! Took a drive to check out a block of woods to see where I was going in the morning ... So I'm driving looking for a good place to park n walk in and a gorgeous tom walks right out from the woods in front of my truck with his paint brush blowin in the wind .... Crosses the street onto private land n just stands out there in the grass field , like what , can't touch me now! Guess I know where I'll be hunting for the rest of the season ... Pygmy
That wind was BITTER this morning...Nevertheless I had 3 hens and a jake with about a 5" beard come in.. About an hour later I was sitting in the blind freezing when I thought " Isn't this stuff supposed to be FUN ? " I packed it in and went home to make a breakfast of pancakes and sausage for me and The Mermaid...

Chris B
Saturday 05/14: Went to our "honey hole" on private land and found out that it's not the sanctuary it seemed to be. Ran into the landowner's son on the bordering property and later got in a calling match with another guy on that property. Good thing is that the landowner's son gave us permission to cross over on their land and hunt that as well, WHICH PAID OFF! Heard this bird randomly gobbling in the distance throughout the morning but he didn't seem to move his location much. At 9:00 we decided to pursue him. We closed the distance and gave a call and he hammered right back at us and was only 80-90 yards away. We set up quick and within a minute we heard another guy moving in from our left. He was cutting and calling like crazy but the gobbler was keyed in on us. every time we gave a couple clucks, he would answer. We spotted a hen slowly working her way to us, bringing the gobbler in. She got about 50 yards away and swung perpendicular and up the hill away from us and the anxious caller to our left. We were in horrible position as it was super thick but we didn't have a choice but to park our butts when we heard him gobble. I had one tiny opening and luck was on my side when the gobbler walked into it. At the perfect time my buddy gave two quick putts and the bird stopped, giving me just enough time to drop the hammer. 3/4" spurs and 8.5" beard but it sure was a paint brush! I have one tag left but plan on devoting the rest of my season getting a bird in front of my girlfriend.
turkeyfeathers
9H. Day #9. Minus my little hunting buddy. Haven't rolled one yet but not for lack of effort. Hoping the dekes work better from the trunk today. "Every village has an idiot " I'm looking for such idiot long beard of these woods today. Fox barking and wood thrushes singing beautifully Enjoy the morning to all who's out.
deerpassion
Well the morning was off to a good start. Had the bird just across the road gobbling pretty good , then another a little ways off on the other side of me in my block of woods ... Then it started sprinkling and they immediately shut up .... turkeyfeathers
A good number of crows have a raven treed 1 tree over from mine. Cmon ?! Not one shock gobble from this commotion Crazy songbirds all around. Way too many warblers to try and figure out what kind they actually are. turkeyfeathers
Watching tom and 4 hens waaaay off on other hill. 10x42 binocs come in handy. Heard 2 shots over there. At 8 and 9:30. Birds have been lighting it up over there and still. Sun gets that hill more than mine. Always birds there.
ants
Got out at around 7. Nice tom with one hen out in a plowed field. I snuck with in about 150 yards and set up on the edge of the field and watched for a little while. He was in full display and every time he got close to the feeding hen, she would flap and scamper away from him, a few yards. I figured I could call him away from the little tease, so when he had his a$$ to me I gave a few soft yelps. He liked it. He answered me and was heading straight at me. The field kind of rolls, so every time his head went out of sight, under a knoll, I would give a soft yelp or 2, which he would answer. Once he was at about 70 yards and heading for me, I got the gun up. Then he turns to my right and starts gobbling towards the woods. I couldn't move or call. The prick heads into the woods gobbling. No other hens were sounding off. Once he was out of sight I went back to the call. He answered a few times but never showed up.. I don't know what the hell happened...
