Found a buck today

I took my boys (8 and 4) out for a walk in the woods today and found a buck that was tracked up to my property late Thanksgiving day. Me and my hunting partners looked for it the next morning. We started looking just a little too far to the  north of where we should have.

What do you mean "tracked up to your property"??

I mean some guys tracked it up till it crossed the road into my property after about a two mile track job. It was then getting dark and they were whooped after six hours of tracking. I told them I would take a look for it the next morning. Of course it rained over night so there really wasn't any blood to track it on.

That would have been an ideal situation to use "bloodglow" to locate the carcass.  That stuff is supposed to make tiny drops of blood, that are invisible to the naked eye in broad daylight, glow bright green under the star and moonlight at night.  It contains the active ingredient luminol and was developed for crime scene investigations.  Rain is supposed to make it work even better.   I bought a kit, containing enough for 3 uses, 3 years ago (cost about $20, ordered thru the internet) because not much bothers me more than not being able to quickly recover a wounded deer (most of our family's protein comes from venison).

If nothing else, having it in my pack gives me the confidence to hunt right up until the last minute of legal daylight.  Before I had it, I would usually pack it in about a half hour early, especially during archery season.  "Backing out until morning" is nuts if you place any value on the meat (I don't care much about the antlers).  I have not yet got to try it, because the seven deer I have killed since getting it have dropped dead in their tracks, within sight, or close enough that I could hear the crash.   I guess that is good, but I am itching for a chance to try this stuff out, but not so much that I will not always aim for the most lethal hit possible on a deer.

I'm not sure what weapons were used but I did see a bullet wound near the right rear hoof, any chance of seeing a body hit are probably gone. I will check the jaw to get an age estimate but I'm guessing it was either a 2.5 or 3.5. Lots of ag around here gets em big in a hurry. I wish we had come across it when we went out looking the next morning.

So did you stop these guys from the tracking job when they got to your land or did they give up? Did they contact you about it crossing onto your land and then say they didnt want to continue and then you offered to look for it in the morning? Nice Buck.

I didn't stop them. It was almost dark and they were exhausted. They were not even the guys that originally started the track job, another group of guys originally hit the buck. I told them I was going out hunting in the morning ( as was my plan before I even talked to them). Me and my two buddies looked in the morning. There were no hard feelings. They had tracked it across my buddies land a little bit before they got to mine. He gave me the heads up that there was a crew headed my way so I went out to the road to see what the story was. Unfortunately it rained over night. My buddy walked by where I found the carcass maybe 50 yards or so away. I found it in a dogwood thicket.
