Winter blahs....what's the first thing you do and know winter is over

I am already getting cabin fever a bit.  First sign of winter being over for me is the boat being back in the driveway!

I am the last boat in storage, therefore the first one out!   Still too far away but making plans already.

May pike opener going out for some bruiser northerns and of course the May 1st gobbler season.

Knock out the yardwork in April cause May it's on.

The obvious 1st sign of spring would be the robins or flocks of geese returning. Officially, on the calendar it's March 20th, but we all know that's not true! Personally think the beginning of April is when I see the winter weather pattern breaking and more encouraging, widespread signs of spring. Like scouting for turkeys or the dreaded return of the pesky bugs/flies.

Your so right!  Only problem is I'm a chicken to be on Ontario.  Lol.  But might be out earlier on Oneida for some perch.  Pending weather.   Usually I do a little stream fishing in April, yard work and prep for pike fishing and turkey hunting.  Gotta get the little boat ready too for northerns ice out.

This nice laker came of Cayuga. If you get the chance I highly recommend getting out on that lake if it's anything like it was last year the trout fishing will be awesome again.

All Cayuga fish and that's just a few.7838b7e8d541783e427ffd63f67a4e3b.jpg8e3ced0163e438dadb3fcc4c0715fdfb.jpg3100b91d53eb2331840dcbd4623ea51b.jpgf37513505046a1b0a92f10df6bc0b9b2.jpg28cfcb3da615a7e4da1cf4f159a90f22.jpg

Some nice trout there for sure.  I don't have down riggers etc.  I do most my fishing on Oneida for walleye and perch and bass.

Any good ideas on how to catch lakers with a bass boat?  I have thought about some jigging spoons .  I do have a lead line trolling rod too.

Heck yea I'm going to hit the Hamburg fishing show in March for my last stocking trip. Rerigged the boat with tracks and alum rod holders to get away from the plastics for kings too.

Btw incase anyone didn't know they expect the eye fishing on Erie to be better than last year and something straight out of a fairy tale. Another place I can't wait to get out on again

10 and 7 color lead took a bunch of Lakers and the shorter lead will catch the rainbows and 'LL before the water temp gets to high. Also alot of guys jig them to but I have never done it so can't be much help there.

I mostly trolled spoons and flasher fly combos in 70 to 110 foot of water anywhere from dragging bottom to the top 20 or 30 foot. But the rainbows and browns would be in top ish.

Sutton spoons took most of my silver fish.

Thanks might have to give it a try.   So many damn hobbies. Lol.   I can't wait for the pike opener, it's the best when the ice just went off .  I have a little 12 ft rowboat with a 4 HP motor too that i take up there. A little 2 seater and we catch some monsters out of it.

Forget the eyes on lake E.... The king report is the same on lake O and I cannot wait to get some big chrome in the boat !

Also gonna try and hit chataqua and SMB and give the musky a try too once late summer hits. Did a rookie run on chataqua last year after I got my buck tag punched. Ended up with 1 48" in a couple hour trolling session. Confidence is higher this year with a new chart, new kicker and new gear !
