I would draw the line at sniper rifles , basically bolt action rifles with scopes and capable of accurately shooting a few hundred yards .

Nobody needs one of those ,plus I don’t own one so it’s ok. .

Don't mess around with my woodchuck and long-range squirrel guns. I don't hike so well any more, so a comfortable hide and a ghillie suit works. ;-] :drinks:  I got the sarcasm and irony Larry, even if some others missed it.

They have an issue they're apparently passionate about. Fine. I applaud that. But they have zero ability to define the issue in any real way. This is the mentality of our youth today. "Someone, like, told me to, like, protest against it so I, like, came with my, like, friends to protest against it." No debate, no dialogue, no rational thought or reason. They want to ban something when they can't even define what it is they want to ban.

My hand is an assault weapon if I use it to assault someone. Your pet guinea pig is an assault weapon if you use it to assault someone... Or your hair brush, or your jar of hair styling gel. At least be serious about your terminology if you want to try to solve big problems. I find it incredibly annoying.

Really to these kids it is    a party or parade just one big joke to a lot of them  if the left said we need to get rid of free speech they would show up to that to that is how brainwashed they are you  could trick these sheep to give up all there rights.

It's embarrassing .

I heard group of young men on NBC the other morning being interviewed about the rallies and guns, and they were saying that the image of men in America has to change from "Macho" and "Tough Guy" to a profile of more "tenderness" and "understanding". And these guys say they are the future of this country. That is scary...a sissified America, soft and tender. Where does the left find these people?

Define "Macho" or "Tough Guy". Back in my day growing up, and even when I was old enough to drink in bars these were the A-holes just out looking to pick a fight or be a bully. I have a crooked nose and busted teeth from standing up to that type of "Man".  So seriously, please explain your definition of a "Tough Guy" or "Macho Man".

I agree, most men out there these days are more metro-sexual ( WTFE ), then in past years. You are blaming this on some new age theory! It started in the 60's and 70's with "Flower Power".

I don't have a definition, just repeating what they said. Their "tough guy" is the people that shoot "assault" weapons. They think of them as "Macho" and they believe that when they get guns banned that the "tough guys" will be gone. And that their way of life and thinking will become the norm. And thats all i know.

So basically your saying it was the same  people from the gay parade  . And other left causes .

It is  not your normal  average kid that's going to these things.

future Libs not old enough to vote but vow to change this country....part of the youths attending the past "rallies" not knowing what they were rallying about.

I have been saying for years, misunderstanding of guns and laws are out of control. I posted on a different thread, "March For Our Lives" was taking place all over NYS. How many people went out to advocate/voice opinions against these rallies? NO ONE! Not even me! Keypad pugilist is all you are! I never pretend to be some false profit, I don't rely on posting links to DB sites to get my point across.

If you protest against the libs the left in public media, brands you as a hate group automatically better to just vote and donate to groups, like the NRA  And let them handle it .

That line was drawn years ago Doc and I am satisfied with it.

But the point is: lines are drawn and as technology evolves, new lines must be considered and perhaps drawn. My question is, and the point of this thread is, what are your specific criteria for drawing those lines?

I just want to follow up on my previous post. Has anyone ever heard a viable definition of the term "assault weapon"? Other than the standard, "It looks scary and it looks like it's military"? Which could apply to many of the people on the planet, BTW.

I've been on the phone for a couple of days with gun experts, LEO's and former military personnel I know trying to find out what the definition is. They don't know. What I'm finding is that it's politicians who use the term. Hmmm!

I can't help you out there. I know the Safe Act came up with a handful of feature identifications, and a lot of them had nothing to do with actual function. And when you get outside of legal interpretations and into individual definitions, the descriptions become more and more arbitrary, and emotional and random. I am now hearing some of these protesters calling for banning the mythical "assault rifles" AND all semi-automatic rifles. So apparently they have finally realized that functionally there is no real difference between what they call assault rifles and any of your run-of-the-mill standard hunting semi-autos. So the term apparently can be pushed and pulled and reformed to fit any gun that anyone might feel threatened by. It is useful to them not to tie down their definitions too tightly.

Yes, we are beginning to see the origin of youth being turned loose to serve as a tool of the left. Get used to it. The libs are on to something here. They have created an army of robots willing to do their bidding and the gun issues are only the beginning.

The ancient Greeks said

all democracies end in tyranny

Those  sheep kids are exactly what they were talking about about .

With no checks balances in government the mob would vote for its own destruction.

That's why the founding fathers setup up are government not to be a direct democracy .

Those sheep are a perfect example of why they were  right.

So very true, Doc.

That could also be applied to the term "mental illness" with regard to background checks. "Keep it open-ended, because if we ever get legislation requiring a test for 'mental illness' before a gun purchase we need to be able to deny that right to everyone equally."

Other than forced work arounds to even increasing laws (bump stocks), what has really changed in the function of a firearm? The cartridges work the same. you have pistols, rifles, shotguns....single shots, pumps, bolts, semi-automatics and automatics. Automatics require a  class 3 and I am actually ok with the NFA regulations and classifications as they are.  You brought up bazookas and cannons ans such. almost without fail those are covered under the NFA as a destructive device. the shells are highly regulated since even a 1/4 ounce of explosive in a shell receives the Destructive Device (DD) designation. I know there are some work arounds for the muzzleloading  cannons and a lot of that can be further regulated in  the local level. I know they are used in reenactments and such so I an mot sure how that paperwork pans out.

Other technological advances  into things like the shotgun street sweepers seem to get classified into their catch all category in the NFA of Any Other Weapon. (AOW).

I guess in summary the current laws are there to handle anything you mentioned. Nothing new is required and that is why I said I am fine with the current line in the sand.

Knowing the left they will diagnose anyone who wants to buy a gun as mentally ill

You can't trust them for crap

I do not support it, but I think a nation-wide ban on all semi-autos is very likely within the next (5) years.  The "assault weapon" definition is too hard for the smart-phone stupified masses to understand.    Full autos were banned shortly after the previous Valentine's day massacre in the early 1900's, so it should come as no surprise when they ban semi's, after this last one in the early 2000's.    I will miss my Ruger 10/22 a little for squirrel hunting, but life goes on.    I will miss my dad's Browning sweet-sixteen shotgun a little more.  He only let me use it once, on a grouse hunt. I went 2 for 2 with it, and they were both difficult shots.   I never got close to that kind of 100 % kill percentage with my pump or side by side shotguns.

I would like to see the line stay at full-autos.   Bump stocks should be included under that definition.
