This weekends projects...

Had some help this weekend , so got.bridge cables tightened, moved boxblind base,cleared a meadow.of fallen and junk trees to make into food plot again, got a couple of stands up,trimmed back limbs off trails,. And saved.myself from flipping.tractor after sliding off roadway in woods. Still so.much more to do....sigh

Greg is an animal on that tractor pushing the trees and brush piles out of the way with it. Running over trees and ripping them out roots and all.

The way the tractor was leaning toward the hill I thought for sure he was going to need another tractor to pull him out. A few minutes later he dragged himself out of the soft muck by using the bucket to drag himself forward and out.

Tell me more about this bridge design?
Looks like it spans a pretty big section of creek?

It's a 58 ft span to cross.. its 1/2 cable anchored to 1 in rebar  set in 12 bags of concrete. Then 3/4 in marine plywood strips are attached to cable about every 10 in on center and are 2.5 in windex 24 in  Using cable clamps/ u bolts. Then 5/4 decking layed lengthwise over plywood steps.  We were trying to find an empty trailer or.container but they were not long enough most were 60.ft and would of required a lot of bank stabilization. The cables are pinned 90 ft apart. And have a 3rd anchor pin cabled to the two that hold bridge. Ten ft behind those pins it's all sand fill/ stream.sediment  so it's not very stable thus the 3rd anchor

Its walkable but Ifyou beefed it up and added 3rd cable you could prolly make it hold an ATV.  We have a road about 75 ft from end of bridge  so we just drive vehicle around to it. And walk in. Though we can drive 1.5.miles thru woods on atv..its a lot easier to drive around cross bridge and hunt.  At 18 in wide we have drug deer across it and if creek is low enough you can drag across but the current is very.fast when it rains at.all and it gets very deep over the center of bridge at times. So we stretched it tighter and raised sag another 2 ft..

Thanks for making me feel worse about not working on my planned projects and instead drinking beer and playing golf lol...... Sunday was such a nice day here too breezy and cool. All I got done was a lawn mow.

Got plot we cleared last weekend worked up. Before i got soaked.. opio

Got turnips in and blind set up, made wooden frame inside it as them damn poles collapse far to often. Especially with early snow.

one plot left to work up and plant and I'm done for year...phew

You're an animal Gman.  Working myself up to this level of land management is my goal.  Get 1 plot established this year, and the new blind, trim some apple trees out, and I'll be happy.

Started the same way. Use to feed corn then dec.said no feeding so planted an acre.. and that was the beginning of this problem..... now I seem to never have enough time to do what I want..

i've always hated oh sh*t moments with tractors. happens quick. definitely have to be careful pushing on brush and trees with bucket and when "pulling" on stumps.  looks good Gman!

This is the first year in more than 20, that I did not get any field corn planted for the deer.  Between the wet weather and a couple "huge" barn dismantle/construction projects, I was not able to get it done in time.  I finally got a couple of acres disked up good yesterday,.   I will put in about 1/4 acre of turnips in early August and the remainder, a combination of white clover, wheat, and soybeans, in late August.    Adding some soybeans to plots planted then don't do much for hunting season (unless the first hard frost is real late), but they draw the deer deer to the plots like candy once they start to sprout.  The wheat and turnips should hold them thru hunting season.  The white clover wont draw many until the following years. 

Last year I took a lot of coons out of a few acres of corn, but no deer, so I don't suppose I will miss it that much this year.   Hopefully, the turnips and wheat will pan out.  My wheat was a complete failure last year (I used some old seed).   This year, I am buying some fresh stuff.   I have plenty of fertilizer ready to go since none was used on the corn.
