First Rubs

I found my first rub today (8/11/11). That beats the earliest date that I've seen one before by about 2 weeks. Anybody else found any yet?

Nope, I haven't been in the woods much, only to pull the card from the trail cam and the deer flies were a digging my lidless head!

I not been in the woods yet,real busy at work,someone told me they saw a deer in Dutchess county that already had clean antlers.So I guess they are starting.

this early it should be a pretty good buck.. earliest ive ever found one was august 17th myself

In fact I did take a picture of it when I saw it. Sorry about the quality of the picture. It looks like the camera didn't focus on the tree but rather on the background. Unfortunately, it is up on top of the hill, a bit more than a mile from the house, and I'm not likely to get back up there for quite a while.

While the rub looks a bit half-hearted, there were a few tine marks that went quite deep. I included the glove in an attempt to show the relative height. It was all I had with me at the time....lol.

Every thing here is still in velvet....this really seems early...not bear cubs huh?...But I never see rubs until late Oct on our place any ways...and they dont start scrapes here until late either...know they're here do to sightings and cams...just never see  a lot of those signs....then again I stay pretty clear of the woods from Sept to bow opener

Thanks for posting that Doc. Just when you think that you have whitetails pinned down to a behavior...they always seem to do something that breaks the mold!

All my trail camera pics of bucks are still in velvet... Hoping to see hard horned pics this weekend...

Apparently all bucks are not all that synchronized when it comes to velvet shedding. I'm beginning to think there is a greater difference than we think. I've never read anything on that subject.

The big guy I got on my trail camera was still in full velvet early Sept.
